I'm glad schools are closing as normal over the summer.
If they were open that woukd be the excuse for why the poor exhausted teachers couldn't return.
I'm also over the whole idea of the Key Worker.
During a short phase where it seemed an emergency was looming and a small number of workers needed to go out and risk getting the virus so the rest of us could stay in and avoid it, it made sense.
But rather like "essential" shopping needing to be redefined when you are talking about MONTHS rather than weeks, the definition of "key" also changes.
You can argue that for 3 weeks people can (mostly, especially if well off and well supplied) get by only buying food.
It got weird when we were looking at months of being told that clothes and shoes were inessential. Like er... excuse me? Since fucking when do we not need clothes??
(The eagle-eyed might also have noticed that the people for whom new clothes and shoes are most essential most frequently are those who are still growing. AKA filthy disease vectors.)
Similarly, over the medium term (which is where we have been for some time), ALL work is key work.
We don't just need NHS staff and shop assistants and bin men. We need dentists, hairdressers, counsellors, benefits advisors, accountants, lawyers, beauticians, artists, filmmakers, actors, stage managers, masseurs, physiotherapists etc. Etc
Our society didn't invent the jobs that people do for a laugh. They all need to go back.
The idea that there are certain workers so "key" that their children get indefinite preferential access to public services is not something I can support.
