On the bright side, I've just gone past my hairdressers, which has quite a large premises, and they have just put screens up around reception and have taken away quite a lot of their chairs - presumably to allow for 2 m distancing between them - so they must be preparing for their early July opening. Of course, if they've only got reduced capacity, and a 3 month backlog of customers, its going to take bloody ages to book a haircut...

Bollss · 10/06/2020 09:41

I'm fed up today. Really fed up. I can't see an end to this now.

DS is so ready for school. I'll be devastated if he can't go ft in sept. I mean, the childminder ive lined up for hols is lovely. She really is. But she is one woman. She can't (nor would I expect her to!) Teach children as well as look after them.

If we get offered something like 10hrs a week.... He'll be with her 3 days a week because we have to work.

The alternative is I try and keep his nursery place for 3 days a week or whatever which is loads more expensive because presumably we won't get any funded hours even though he'll only spend 10 hrs at school or whatever?

Will we then have to teach him at the weekend?

It's not going to work :(

Thank god I’ve found this thread, I’ve been avoiding forums for a while due to all the doom and gloom and fear and “The Virus” screaming.

I have healthy family members and friends who are still “in full lockdown” and who are too scared to go to the shops.

Our county has suspended all routine mammograms and has only just started planning a cautious return with limited appointments.

And the schools. I missed 6 months of school when I was a teenager and never really caught up - I went from being at the top of my year to the middle/bottom half. I heard neighbours talking about their dc going back for a just couple of half days a week and the school being closed for one full day so everything can be thoroughly cleaned.

Now I’m listening to someone on the radio going on about “no one knows what the world will look like in the Autumn” and the pandemic may still be raging”... Arghh!

Unbelievable what has happened to us. Madness.

ssd · 10/06/2020 09:44

Thanks again

Blobby10 · 10/06/2020 09:46

Morning all - I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the lack of (sensible) risk assessment that people are able to make. When this lockdown crap started it was so that mass infection didn't occur and overwhelm the NHS - fair enough. But now it seems that it has to continue to eradicate this virus which, for 95% of people who catch it , will be no more than a slight cold and fever. (NB I'm not in any way saying that people who are vulnerable are less important, I'm dealing with facts!) .

With our knowledge now of the importance of hand washing, of limited hugging and kissing etc, surely in places like schools, hospitals, dentists, shops etc everyone is at less risk than they were in January when the virus was becoming rife and spreading like wildfire? The ridiculous rules that physios, dentists etc have had to comply with to open up are eye popping - one physio has to leave her used PPE (gown, mask, gloves) in a double bagged hazardous waste bag for 72 hours before disposing of it!

Is this virus airborne or transmitted on surfaces? Wish they would make up their minds! Sorry about the rant - there's no real point to it but no one in real life feels like me - they are all sheep following The Roolz (even the made up Roolz) Sad

Thighmageddon · 10/06/2020 09:49

Maudesmum my hairdresser has done the same, all kitted out and good to go when the day arrives.

Ahh the thought of lovely hair again, I can almost taste it Grin

BarkandCheese · 10/06/2020 09:54

It’s great to see so many more people joining these threads.

heroku · 10/06/2020 09:58

I've got myself on a waiting list for the hairdresser already. Crossing my fingers it won't be months away!

In other news I'm thinking about moving to the countryside for a bit. As I've mentioned before on here - we're getting kicked out of our rented accommodation as the landlord wants to sell. I live in a city and it's so bleak with everything shut and graffiti everywhere. I'm trying to get excited about cafes and pubs opening again but I'm just imagining the 2m spaced queues to go and sit in a pub garden and thinking - what's the point? I'm also worried a lot of the lovely little independent restaurants near me won't survive - most of them are tiny, with tables crammed together, and will never stay afloat with these silly social distancing restrictions.

Maybe I'm being too negative though. What do you think?

Teateaandmoretea · 10/06/2020 09:59

@heroku the only way I’ve got through this is by living somewhere rural. But it’s a personal preference thing

RubberDinghyRapids · 10/06/2020 10:00

Excellent descriptions listed above. As a rule, we're a tolerant bunch with some similar views, some different views. Respectful conversation only - no shouting down (SHOUTY CAPITALS ARE FOR SARCASM ONLY HERE Grin) and we don't feed the trolls who occasionally wander in.

Dowser · 10/06/2020 10:04

Ssd

The anti dementors are trying not to be sucked into all the doom, gloom and misery the dementors ( or covidiots as I call them) are creating.
Thoughts are powerful things
The more you think about doom, gloom and misery the more you create it for yourself.
You only have to say to someone...don’t do this at home btw, think of your unhappiest experience , and you’re right there in it.

So, think of a happy time..just to shut the other thought out.

Mine is, I found a calendar when I was rooting around in a cupboard last night, one of those put together from your own photos my daughter had made for em, of the grand babies.
Oh they were so beautiful and joyful. That’s what I took from the photos. They were giggling in some of them, I don’t know why, but it really made me chuckle.

I was actually looking for a poem I wrote about one of them who had a mishap at the hairdressers, I was going to post here , after a couple of you had written about your lockdown hairdos.
I know I never chucked it away..but where is it?
I’ll have another look today, it was midnight when I was looking last night.

Dowser · 10/06/2020 10:05

Em= me lol

BarkandCheese · 10/06/2020 10:06

We’ve had remarkably few trolls considering. The odd one that’s turned up has been ignored thankfully.

sprinklesone · 10/06/2020 10:06

@Dowser aww thank you. And i'm sorry i generalised like that. What i meant was those in power who are generally older. People with more power. But just typing that out makes me realise that young people also have power they just need to make their voices heard.

incognitomum · 10/06/2020 10:07

I had my son's friend and his girlfriend round for a meal last night ( Takeaway they bought) and cut both of their hair. I'm ex hairstylist.

Already seen the dgs and dsd. Dh has seen his mum and she's been out with her daughter in her car.

Dss (older) are staying with their dad this weekend. He's getting a bit lonely. They've had a drink with him in his garden so far. But having a lads weekend watching films and getting Takeaway no doubt. I've also cut exdh's hair.

Am thinking I should do a bit of hairdressing on the sly. Can just see me skulking around the lanes in the dead of night with my hairdressing bag 😁

incognitomum · 10/06/2020 10:08

I am an ex hairdresser btw not just doing it as a hobby to be rebellious Wink I work in a different field now but still do hair.

incognitomum · 10/06/2020 10:09

Oh I'd already said that Blush

bakingcupcakes · 10/06/2020 10:10

I went to watch telly yesterday evening and the thread just ran away from me! Only just caught up.

I'm pleased about the zoos and hopeful for the hairdressers. I rang the dentist (again) yesterday to plead for an appointment for DS. I was told no rather unsurprisingly. This whole thing is a complete time bomb with regards to stored up health problems.

The hospital rang to ask why I hadn't taken DS for his yearly blood test. To be honest I didn't think they'd be doing them. Anyway, I've booked us in for monday so the woman on the phone told me I needed a face covering (ffs) so I asked if DS needed one. She didn't know. They haven't got the guidance yet apparently. I really don't want him wearing one. He'll fiddle with it because he's 5. It's bad enough keeping his hands from his mouth as it is.

Allflightscancelled · 10/06/2020 10:10

Morning all!
Glad to see that zoos are opening! I know it's a kicker that zoos are taking priority over education, I feel the same but still, I was worried about the animals and their long-term future.

Here, my usually quite well motivated DD has just told me she's done no A-level work for several weeks. I think she must have done some because (one or two of you may remember) she's managed to blag her way onto a list of 'vulnerable' kids and been sending herself in for a day a week. Now, she's just been told she can go in for some time with a teacher from next week. She gets 1hr and 40 minutes a week, with A Teacher. Not necessarily one who teaches her, and possibly not even one who teaches her subjects Hmm.

Awaiting Boris's update on more roolz relaxations later.

iamapixie · 10/06/2020 10:12

Magda
Agree re our poor health at a population level in the UK. Johnson muttered a bit about dealing with obesity but it strikes me that whereas lessons about wide ranging preventative health care could have been learned, we are doing the usual reactive nonsense instead with absolutely no genuine deep thought. Obesity and low vitamin D levels already very prevalent pre-Covid...Deal with it by locking down. An ageing population subject to loneliness and ill health, cared for by people on minimum wage...Lock them away. Build Nightingales... But ignore education and deprivation. The difference in quality-life- years between richest and poorest in this country is 20 bloody years. But let's make sure that we cause a massive recession and fail to educate our children, even though we know of the correlations between poverty, lack of education and early death. God it's really too much to bear.

incognitomum · 10/06/2020 10:12

Oh I was in the park the other day and a lady with dcs walked past the duck pond. One dd about 4 was furious with the ducks and geese for not social distancing! Hmm The lady just agreed ffs.

mylittleyumyum · 10/06/2020 10:14

Hello, I think you are my people.... Is this the area for skeptical people....?

Shodan · 10/06/2020 10:15

Am thinking I should do a bit of hairdressing on the sly. Can just see me skulking around the lanes in the dead of night with my hairdressing bag

I can just see the headlines (excuse the pun Grin):

"Prowler seen; leaves trail of improved haircuts in wake.

Phone the tip line with sightings (please, for god's sake, I can't see through my fringe)"

iamapixie · 10/06/2020 10:17

Secret whisper but I've got my cleaner back. It's within the very illogical rules but I've actually felt a bit worried in case of 'the deadly virus'. Been opening all the windows to get rid of the miasma. I count myself as fairly lucid and able to assess risk but I've genuinely been got by dementoring. I almost wanted to cancel but I just don't know how she'll survive and send money home to her family if nobody will ever have her in their house again.

Allflightscancelled · 10/06/2020 10:21

I really wish the BBC would remove that stupid story about coronavirus being worse for London than the Blitz. It's a crock of shit and it pisses me off every day on my way to the 'look up tool', which I torture myself with daily.

No new cases of Covid for over a week in Dorset. And only 21 since 10 May. That's cases, not hospitalisations or deaths.

And yet here we still are.
