ITU Covid ward is seeing 2 people a day dying

Wonder how many deaths overall occurred in that hospital in a day. If they're "only" having 2 a day in the entire place then I'd say that was a "good" day.

BogRollBOGOF · 11/06/2020 16:44

@DominaShantotto

Just had a questionnaire about our views over swimming lessons - basically sounding out if we'll pay the same for every 2 weeks as we do for every one, or for like 20 minute lessons instead of 30, with compulsory face coverings and putting kids back down a class.

It took a year and a half for DD2 to make it out of the beginner group - she got upset every single time she didn't move up and had only just made it into stage 1 - and now they're like "oh we'll move her back down, charge you double for half the content, and make you sit and watch with a paper bag on your head". Fuck off.

We are in a realm beyond bullshit now and it's getting worse as stuff looks to reopening with increasingly ridiculous rules and convoluted ways of basically screwing us for more money but for less service. Fuck this life.

DS1 completed stage 4 in Jan but has never moved up as there was never capacity to move prior to lockdown. DS2 completed stage 2 on our final night.

DS1 completed school lessons at Feb half term. They'd helped him to competently swim 25m and he built up do doing about 400m in half an hour. It does concern me at how much his progress will wane. The dyspraxia means progress is hard won and slow and regressions can happen easily. (He genuinely forgets how to ride a bike and his gross motor control is quite assymmetric)

I haven't heard anything from the pool since direct debits were suspended. The FB page has put out snippets about protocols for the gym, but nothing about lessons.
We go to the big pool with the recently deceased waterslide on the dual carriageway. No parkrun at the park.

I have wondered about school swimming. Our school does 2nd half y3/ 1st half y4. Poor y3 have only had about 3 lessons. DS2 would normally be due to have his turn from next Feb. With so much disruption to y3, I don't know if they'll just write it off and concentrate on classroom time anyway or change and delay DS's class' turn. I don't envy the next y4 teacher as it's a tough cohort that struggles anyway and they'll be polarising even further than they were anyway and it was not an evenly distributed class as it is.

Congratulations on your 95%!

Flippetydip · 11/06/2020 16:45

The communication has come out from our school saying they are opening to year 1s and year 6s can go and fuck themselves.

They are, very kindly allowing year 6 in for a week at the end of term. What a bloody waste of time.

Nihiloxica · 11/06/2020 16:45

@NothingIsWrong

My boss is based in Liverpool and was dementoring all over a group call today saying his daughter who works in an ITU Covid ward is seeing 2 people a day dying. He is basically saying this is going nowhere and we are all going to be locked down until Christmas. I know the north west has been badly hit, but surely it is all coming down there like everywhere else?

I'm all of a panic now

She works ON AN ITU WARD.

Hint: people in intensive care are often in slightly less than optimal health.

🤯

We're people always this idiotic?

Don't panic, Nothing, I know it's scary to realise how deeply stupid so many people are. But hopefully good sense will prevail.

Oh god, it won't, will it?

panics

We might get 4 days increasingly looking like 4 mornings - and that's with an extra week added onto term.

On plus side they'll get eyes on all years and more students so any problems may be pciked up over wider range of pupils.

Laniakea · 11/06/2020 16:49

well April-June 2019 there were 118,848 deaths registered in England alone ... over 1300 a day!

Willow2017 · 11/06/2020 16:53

Yes fuck off to that. What the hell is the point of moving them down a class and charging you double for the privilege?

World has gone mad.

There is a lot of noise on Twitter it would seem and a lot of anti-dementor voices. Have a look for #usforthem (as already mentioned) but also #flattenthefear.

Apologies if you're already all aware.

My dad bless him, who start off very pro lockdown is now all gung ho about us going up on Saturday and is pressing us to stay the night. He's just bored! And he is the firm believer that many Doctors have signed off deaths as being from Covid when there hasn't even been an autopsy or test done to prove it one way or the other. I've no idea where he's getting his theories from but hey ho.

There was an article linked a few days ago to the effect that doctors absolutely were signing off covid without autopsy. I don’t have time to find it right now but someone else might have the link.

My mum works at the drs surgery and she says this is absolutely happening in our area. Even with a negative test and no symptoms, care home deaths are being recorded as Covid.
NothingIsWrong · 11/06/2020 17:04

Article in the telegraph today saying exactly that. The emergency legislation for corona made it a notifiable disease which means that if it's even mentioned on the certificate it goes down as a corona death. Lots of comments BTL saying that happened to a relative and they couldn't challenge it.

HesterShaw1 · 11/06/2020 17:06

Well I've just had some bloody bad news. My industry has been officially told (after contradictory bollocks for weeks), that it "must remain shut". No explanation. No hope. No timescale. Nothing. Despite the risk being absolutely miniscule.

I really am getting to the very end of my rope.

peachsquish · 11/06/2020 17:06

Surely it should be the number of new infections that are a better reflection. Every death is tragic but deaths can be affected by existing health conditions, or even different hospital trusts, certainly other services before covid have been better at some trusts than others.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 17:07

The New York City Health Department has encouraged people to wear masks while having sex to stop the spread of coronavirus.

According to guidelines from the city, New Yorkers should try to stay home and have minimal contact with other people, but officials accept they "will and should have sex".

Thanks I will have a look for that.

@HesterShaw1- I'm so sorry. That's crap.

Cattermole · 11/06/2020 17:08

There was an appalling article in the Graun about those poor people who died at home alone - approx 700-800 I believe and due to their decomposition a cause of death could not be identified but it was assumed they had died of COVID.
What the actual fucking fuck?
"Lockdown" - in a very real and practical sense - killed them, it left them to die, alone.
Fear killed them. A fear that has been manipulated by the government to keep us in our place.

A happy story - DS2s employer announced redundancies. 2 people from his team of 4 to go. One guy, with a young family, had started just before lockdown, and assumed he would be on the list. Today he found out that 2 people have volunteered. Apparently he was unable to speak in the meeting. At least someone has something to celebrate today.

Anti-dementors riding the rollercoaster out of lockdown

AHH Wales you beat me to it!!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 11/06/2020 17:14

@HesterShaw1 - I'm so sorry. That's just rubbish news. Is it the type of thing you can whip up a storm about like zoos/garden centres/golf courses? Obviously not expecting you to name it and I'm guessing not. Stuff like that makes me so angry.

Enjoying sun
I know those 6 weeks really well..hell with three children under 5 and no playgroups open.

In fact I remember one half term and we were told it was open( a youth centre) arrived with kids and friend In tow and a few other mums only for the YC manager to tell us that we couldn’t come in
By this time we were already in the building.
So mums started packing up and I remember a voice, which I realised was mine, saying I’m not going, we were told it was on I’m not putting this lot back in the car etc
He was really aggressive and threatened to lock me in. Oh we had a right old ding dong, but I held my ground. Where did I get that from.
Still, I refused to budge..and he grudgingly let everyone stay.

Looking back, I’d only be about 29 and didn’t normally say boo to a goose
But yes those days were hell, when it was wet and stormy like today.

gingerbreadslice · 11/06/2020 20:12

@ISaySteadyOn Thank you that means a lot, I like this thread I think I'll keep posting on here. It's a bit more uplifting than the other threads. Grin
