Tea I think if there's one thing that's become glaringly obvious from this, is that a lot of people do not understand risk and how the majority of us assess our daily risk by just getting out of bed and leaving the house.

I've just seen my town's plans' that have been put in place for next week in the High Street, it's utterly bonkers. Roads closed, markings everywhere with 2m signs. I'll laugh if they change it to 1m in the next few days.

Mascotte · 10/06/2020 09:20

Scottish Anti Dementors

I've just found a survey asking for children's/parents views hidden away on a school app. I've completed it 😃 Take a look at your areas, if you're not way ahead of me on this?

Dowser · 10/06/2020 09:21

On a separate note, I can't bear the phrase "social distancing". Every time I hear it, I feel sick.

Me too sea otter.
I think sometimes it’s why it’s easier to stay home. You don’t have to see how much society has changed.
Not that I’m advocating that at all
I can see millions of people ending up with PTSd on account of what has been done to us.

KaronAVyrus · 10/06/2020 09:21

@ssd

Don't laugh , but can someone explain what a dementor is?

I'm going demented certainly. I like this thread, mn seems bereft of decent threads these days.

SSD - it’s a reference to the “dementors” in the Harry Potter books who put the fear of God in people.
RubberDinghyRapids · 10/06/2020 09:22

And yes, I get it. Their job has been hard. And they have had direct contact with people who have Covid. And we are very grateful.

But they are only viewing this from a very singular perspective.

SockYarn · 10/06/2020 09:23

@Mascotte our school sent out a SurveyMonkey questionnaire last week asking about how online provision was going. My responses were honest and forthright. Grin

enjoyingSun · 10/06/2020 09:25

I'm just listening to more and less on Radio 4 - Mumsnet got mentioned as better at looking at the figures than the government.

We should have shut down earlier as some groups who seem to have more influence than others didn't spot faster infection rate in UK than chinese original data.

but can someone explain what a dementor is

It's from Harry Potter - a creatire that sucks joy from people.

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/06/2020 09:25

I still don't understand, and I know I'm ridiculously biased because I'm due to get married on 27th December, why there is so much talk of all this being until the 'end of the year', or January at least. What is magically going to change in January? I don't understand why the end of a calendar year has any relevance whatsoever in this situation.

enjoyingSun · 10/06/2020 09:25

Locking down earlier needed was conclusion of the program not me by the way.

BastardGoDarkly · 10/06/2020 09:26

I'm really starting to worry about my year 4 DD. I spoke to her school yesterday, and pleaded with them to try and find a place for her.

He said he'd noted it all down, and would be ringing us every week to see how she is.

I dont suppose it's possible for them to make exceptions though is it? Sad

trappedsincesundaymorn · 10/06/2020 09:27

Pulling up a chair, practising my flouting.

On the bright side though, had a call from DD last night, she is buzzing like a bee on speed at the prospect zoo's opening up again. As an assistant keeper she's been furloughed since the beginning of March as only the qualified keepers have been in. She just wants to get back to her animals, she's missed them so much.

BarkandCheese · 10/06/2020 09:28

Dowser I remember that Sad . Going from 2m to 1m will make a difference, but it’s not enough. It’s not just the audience but the staff, you can’t social distance a big show, either onstage or off. DD’s musical theatre group are finally going to do their production of Joseph outdoors, but the cast still have to be 2m apart, although they’re planning for August so might be 1m I guess. Even so that’s fine for an amateur youth group under unusual circumstances where the audience is mostly friends and family. No ones going to want to see professional theatre done that way. I suppose there are a few very small cast shows, Waiting for Godo or Shirley Valentine would be fine, not so much big cast musicals.

There's talk of March 2021 in Wales in the documents on covid.

Hope for vaccine or it burning out by itself maybe - I'm honestly not sure what the thinking is there.

Mascotte · 10/06/2020 09:29

@SockYarn mine too 😃

ssd · 10/06/2020 09:31

Thanks for the explanations.
So dementors are the experts saying we'll all be dead by next week and the anti dementors are trying to look at things differently, is that it?

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/06/2020 09:32

I've become obsessed with googling the words 'coronavirus vaccine' in utter desperation. I can't see any other way out of this mess.

I'll stay in today though, and stop arguing with everyone 😂

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 09:33

I dont suppose it's possible for them to make exceptions though is it?

Our school is. Our excellent non dementor head is trying to get as many children back in as possible, whatever the reason. She’s slowly getting the year 2’s and 5’s back at the moment, and contacting everyone else to see if they need places due to childcare reasons.
Our school is blessed with quite a lot of space though.

iamapixie · 10/06/2020 09:33

Thank you for the thread. Wow what number are we on now? And everyone's been polite to each other, almost like we're, oh I don't know, reasonable adults or something!

Dowser · 10/06/2020 09:36

Little Belinda
So sorry you’re feeling low
Please do not upset yourself for sending your child to school
It’s just not normal to feel this way

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 09:37

ssd dementors are those who see everything in a negative light... for example we have a high death rate one day and a dementor would say ‘of course it’s high, we’re awful, no one is obeying the rules, we’re all doomed’. A low death rate the next day is then met with cries of ‘its not true, they’re massaging the figures, there will be a second wave next week’. Those who told people on here that they were breaking the rules by walking for an hour and 3 mins, or going to the shop for milk when we could use cheese in our coffee instead and that by leaving the house for non essential reasons we were responsible for killing 12 people. Those who tell us nothing will ever go back to normal, and that schools won’t open until 2022 for example. Basically those who enjoy the negativity of the situation and refuse to believe anything positive.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/06/2020 09:37

@ssd

Thanks for the explanations. So dementors are the experts saying we'll all be dead by next week and the anti dementors are trying to look at things differently, is that it?
That sums it up really quite nicely
Nihiloxica · 10/06/2020 09:37

@AnxiousElephant77

They are just kicking it down the road as far as they can.

Genuinely, listen to their arguments, they NEVER want this to end.

When lockdown was 3 weeks they were all JUNE.

Then it moved to "not til September"

Then "not EVEN in September"

Then January started creeping in.

Now you can see early signs of "not in 2021"

That's why the school thing is so worrying, because our useless populist government is just following the mob on this and pushing the date ever backwards when society is restored.

Willitneverend · 10/06/2020 09:38

There's also a Scottish Children's Parliament which runs surveys every month on how children are coping with lockdown.

Has anyone else heard of the Educational Recovery Group in Scotland? www.gov.scot/groups/covid-19-education-recovery-group/

The minutes say nothing about what they're planning to implement. I had barely heard of the group meant to be representing parents. Have they done any consultation with any parents groups anywhere? We're meant to be delivering the education for more than half the school week, but nothing.

I'd also bet that a vastly disproportionate amount of their time is spend talking about Gaelic provision.

For anyone on Twitter, Libby Brooks and Andrew Wilson are both making anti dementor noises, although getting predictable nonsense levelled at them.

Teateaandmoretea · 10/06/2020 09:39

I just got an email from a customer that says

Thanks for all your help and assistance. Really appreciate it.

Keep sage

Now is this a typo or is he making a point,,,,?

Littlebelina · 10/06/2020 09:40
