I follow brexit news and I'm hoping this lockdown ends properly once no trade deal is confirmed and they don't have to use covid to hide that mess.

thenightsky · 11/06/2020 16:12

DD has just asked me if she can come and stay over on Sunday for father's day. Her and her DP haven't been out at all apart from click and collect locally to her. We haven't seen her since Xmas Sad I've said yes.

She is now worried about our neighbours reporting her or being generally nasty. Luckily I was able to tell her that my immediate neighbours are a bunch of rebellious anti-dementors Grin

Allflightscancelled · 11/06/2020 16:15

I wouldn't worry, nightsky. I'm having a bunch of 16 year olds staying overnight here on Saturday, and in quite a small tent, too Shock

Even if anyone did report you (or me) the police won't give a toss. They've said as much.

My brother wants to visit my elderly mum but she's very worried "because he can't stay the night'. She (and he, weirdly, he usually gives no fucks) wanted to run the idea past me. No idea why, I just said 'go for it' Confused

Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 16:18

Apparently in Holland quite a few deaths in the elderly were not recorded as the virus as not tested. I think here we should mainly look at the figures for those over age of general life expectancy for a more realistic figure. 85% of deaths have been in the over 75s and the mean age is 80. Professor Sikora in the Telegraph today about how the numbers are around half of those reported as well

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/06/11/prof-karol-sikora-covid-19-death-toll-may-less-half-has-recorded/

Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 16:19

I mean under age of life expectancy

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/06/2020 16:20

Not an easy comparison, but my cousin in the IOM has just text me to say they have no social distancing at all from June 15th.

I'm happy for them but I could cry.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 16:22

School letter said Bath R was "well below 1" but rest of SW was 1 (smug)

(all a lot of bollocks isn't it really)

Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 16:23

Is that due to them using the app I wonder? We also have a relative in Guernsey and they are back to normal too. Or 'not locked in anymore' as MIL put it!

DominaShantotto · 11/06/2020 16:26

Just had a questionnaire about our views over swimming lessons - basically sounding out if we'll pay the same for every 2 weeks as we do for every one, or for like 20 minute lessons instead of 30, with compulsory face coverings and putting kids back down a class.

It took a year and a half for DD2 to make it out of the beginner group - she got upset every single time she didn't move up and had only just made it into stage 1 - and now they're like "oh we'll move her back down, charge you double for half the content, and make you sit and watch with a paper bag on your head". Fuck off.

We are in a realm beyond bullshit now and it's getting worse as stuff looks to reopening with increasingly ridiculous rules and convoluted ways of basically screwing us for more money but for less service. Fuck this life.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 16:26

Kind of strange thought I'd be escaping to Arran. Maybe there are island dementors there

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/06/2020 16:27

Sorry Domina, that made me laugh! I’d tell them to fuck off too.

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/06/2020 16:27

No I don't think so. I think they've managed to eradicate it a la New Zealand. I know we can't make comparisons because it's so tiny but it's a bitter pill.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 16:28

My Yr 6 went back last week too in Bath Weeds just getting 2 days though - it went fine, didn't do much work, mainly played outside.

NothingIsWrong · 11/06/2020 16:29

My boss is based in Liverpool and was dementoring all over a group call today saying his daughter who works in an ITU Covid ward is seeing 2 people a day dying. He is basically saying this is going nowhere and we are all going to be locked down until Christmas. I know the north west has been badly hit, but surely it is all coming down there like everywhere else?

I'm all of a panic now

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/06/2020 16:29

I'm waiting to hear about swimming. We've had a holding email which basically says we're waiting to see what happens next because we couldn't open with the current plans for the next stage. They have at least said they'll hold everyone's place on their current stage. What's the point of dropping everyone down? Where will the bottom group go? Just keep everyone in their group and modify the teaching according to need for the first couple of weeks.

thenightsky · 11/06/2020 16:29

That's hillarious orange. Closing the border wouldn't have helped in that case! Grin

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/06/2020 16:30

Now I am too.

Good to see the "Christmas" line being trotted back out though #theendoftheyear

justasking111 · 11/06/2020 16:31

Yesterday Daily Mail said covid deaths spiked at. Today said covid deaths jumped to 151. Well the figure is 151 so it has spiked from zero. Honestly these headlines are moronic.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/06/2020 16:32

ITU Covid ward is seeing 2 people a day dying.

It would depend on whether these two people a day were likely to be dying anyway, surely? Just not on the same ward, or indeed, in the same hospital. Or any hospital at all. People die all the time, after all.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/06/2020 16:35

Did it call it a ‘grim total’? DM always seems to use the word grim, it must be in their covid house style manual.
Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 16:35

I don't like grim and grisly is bad too

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/06/2020 16:37

I've just read the word grim in their article Grin referring to the actual number of deaths being far higher than that being reported. That total is grim, apparently.

Like my fucking mood. Grim.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/06/2020 16:37

That reminds me, the night the lockdown was announced, it was 8pm, and after than there was a BBC news broadcast from London with a guy dressed as the grim reaper but the news reader didn't twig.

Did anyone see it, it was hilarious after such an announcement. Wandering about waving in the background and sitting down etc in the park

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 11/06/2020 16:41

Would it be worth paying for individual lessons as they can make more progess quicker?

I had two stuck in same level with just one minor thing for months they got very fed up- was later told they were waiting for places in level above- in which case I could have stopped paying in meantime.

As it was money was tight and kids fed up so they just had a few weeks left at higher level as part of block already paid for. They got most of it ticked off anyway - if we'd had a break waiting I expect we'd have finished that level and maybe looked at last level that pool did.
