Welcome one and all. Bad days, good days...we're here for you all

Maybe I'm an economy dementor but I'm sure there's a hidden agenda to all these companies deciding everyone is WFH until 2021. It's a lot easier to make people redundant when no one is in the office.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/06/2020 08:44

Dh is back to work (engineering but in a factory site) well, very part time, and has to wear a face visor and have temp checks. It is a lot quieter and he has to follow one way systems etc. he works in automation

SeaOtterFluff · 10/06/2020 08:44

I'm sure part of the problem with care homes lies with statutory sick pay. If I'm earning minimum wage, I can't afford to live on £90 a week if I'm feeling a bit off colour so I'll keep going to work. No chance of self-isolation.
On a separate note, I can't bear the phrase "social distancing". Every time I hear it, I feel sick.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 10/06/2020 08:44

That’s fantastic news about zoos. I’m sure they’ll be really busy and hopefully be able to recover now. I really hope Wales starts to look at the impact on sectors like this.

I actually slept last night!

@Lickyicelollies @Librarybooksandacoconut @Willitneverend

I'm also in Scotland and going to keep protesting. I totally agree about sports too. I know really my protests won't change anything but I feel the need to try.

I'm also trying to put positive and back to school things on my sm now and then, though this us inevitably shot down by a local teacher.

Bollss · 10/06/2020 08:48

@LivinLaVidaLoki

Also, anyone else feeling more irritated by the day of the phrase "when it is safe to do so"?

When will it be safe to do so, what's an acceptable level of risk/infection/transmission?

If I ever hear that sentence again it will be too soon. It gives me the rage. It means nothing at all!! Angry
Orangeblossom78 · 10/06/2020 08:51

Yes, I find the safe thing annoying too. Wish they had not started that - even getting it from the school head and on the music radio- rave safe! Hmm no just play some music

Orangeblossom78 · 10/06/2020 08:53

It reminds me of this- basic needs (Maslow)

www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html

Orangeblossom78 · 10/06/2020 08:55

So- all this making people feel unsafe means people can't feel they can go on to the other things in the triangle (according to Maslow)- it threatens people and it is wrong

Dowser · 10/06/2020 08:57

Well said heroku
I hate the term lockdown
A lad in our town took his life Recently
Very sad
Perhaps we could email the dm to see if they can investigate how many young people under age of 21 took their lives during lockdown
They live that sort of story and it might hit the covidiots on how wrong it has all been

I never consented to have my freedom taken away.

In fact why stop at children..take 21-40
40-66
66 onwards

Teateaandmoretea · 10/06/2020 08:59

The number of people who are waiting till it’s 100% safe to send their bubbas back to school 🤦🏻‍♀️

Some woman tried to tell a thread that the role of safeguarding in schools was to make sure the children are completely safe. When so pointed out that it was actually to minimise risk and keep children as safe as possible she told me I was an idiot who knew nothing about it.

Dowser · 10/06/2020 09:00

Livin

And Bojo committing to one review a week....I'm actually expecting to see more of the kind of short-notice lifting that we have been seeing, such as the shielded advice last weekend, the masks announcement, the zoos today that sort of thing.

I suspect bojo doesn’t want to be tagged with the death of zoos and the animals on his hands.

His job has almost become..be careful what you wish for

Pleasedontdothat · 10/06/2020 09:00

Checking in before I lose the new thread .. spotted a ridiculously pointless bit of local authority dementoring this morning. On one of our dog walks we have to cross a road bridge over the A3. At the bottom of the steps on both sides, a neatly spray-painted sign has appeared ‘Please remember to keep 2m apart at all times’ .. this bridge is not a well-known bottleneck.. I’ve only ever seen one other person on it at the same time as me, and as it’s nice and wide there’s plenty of room for a whole flock of dementors and anti-dementors. Why?? And why did nobody say ‘er, there’s no point in is doing this’??

sprinklesone · 10/06/2020 09:01

It's about quality not quantity of life. 😩
I don't understand. If I was older and vulnerable, I would no way in hell want my kids staying in to keep me safe. Don't they care about us? Don't the older generation care about their young?

Dowser · 10/06/2020 09:05

There seem to be a lot of you

I think bojo wants to finish his tenure on a high
He’s still a young man. He’ll be under 60 when he leaves office, he won’t want to be tagged forever as the man who killed everyone’s hopes and dreams

I certainly hope so. I don’t think he wants to kill us all

BarkandCheese · 10/06/2020 09:05

Good morning. I’m so glad about the zoo’s announcement, hopefully we’ll get something firm about pubs and restaurants soon. I’m still very worried about live entertainment though.

rosettesforjill · 10/06/2020 09:08

@Drivingdownthe101 DH works for a big financial company and they're openly talking about closing sites.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 10/06/2020 09:08

It’s so strange sitting less than an hour away from England and listening to you talking about nice things reopening while we’re told stay local and there are plans to keep us shut down all summer. I guess I feel perfectly safe, a little apprehensive because I completely acknowledge I might be wrong but all the recent evidence is that we should reopen.

I’m not quite elderly yet, but I have 6 grandchildren aged 22- 10 who are all missing out on education, and the nice things in life.
I never signed up to this.
I resent it as much as the next person
I honestly think we’ve been led right up the garden path

I’m totally shocked at what has happened. Not just here but everywhere.
I never ever want anyone to give up their life for mine.

Dowser · 10/06/2020 09:12

Wales , what has been done to us all is terrible and shocking.
What has been done to wales and Scotland is criminal.
Sturge and drake should be tried as war criminals.

MaxNormal · 10/06/2020 09:12

Here's a very interesting South African-based article on the lockdown, it discusses it from a global perspective:

Dowser · 10/06/2020 09:13

Bark, a music venue posted yesterday that their 370 people capacity under new guidelines is reduced to
26
I think I posted it here

RubberDinghyRapids · 10/06/2020 09:18

Dear Bloody BBC. Please stop 'writing' articles from individual nurses saying that they don't feel safe, and predicting second waves. Especially ones who have lived and breathed (pun infuckingtended) Covid for the last two months. The one today has done nothing but work and sit alone in a hotel room for the duration. Do you not think her view will be a teensy bit biased?
And for that matter the doctor from Barnsley - who only ever pops up to doom.

ssd · 10/06/2020 09:18

Don't laugh , but can someone explain what a dementor is?

I'm going demented certainly. I like this thread, mn seems bereft of decent threads these days.
