So, "technically", if someone by themselves was to drive half the way across the UK to party with a small family group, one could stay overnight and get steaming drunk, if that family group was part of mytheir support bubble? Asking for a friend.

HesterShaw1 · 10/06/2020 18:32

Many of my family were really ill with covid symptoms in December and it started with my Aunt who lives in the same village as my parents. My aunt works as a matron in a boarding house and she “nursed” a Chinese pupil who had returned unwell from WUHAN at the end of November. My Aunt then became very ill with covid symptoms and went to her GP who diagnosed her with pneumonia. Luckily she is in her 50’s with no underlying health conditions so after being quite ill for some time she did recover without needing hospital. On her way to the GP she called into my parent’s house and subsequently they became extremely ill about ten days later. My DM has just had an antibody test and we are hoping it can be proved that she did have it. She has not been ill since and so if she does have the antibodies I will be convinced she had it in December and I will email every bloody scientist I can find until one of them listens. Then hopefully we can get back to normal (not the ‘new’ normal) and this crap can all be over!

It's really quite compelling isn't it? A man local to us died of a pneumonia like illness back in November - he was in his 70s, very overweight, so your "classic" Covid victim, without wanting to sound heartless or tasteless.

Posters ask...so why weren't people DYING before Christmas? Well, they were weren't they? And it takes time to get a real foothold in a population and it is then that cases start shooting up. I'm assuming anyway. Pretty sure some on MN would say "Oh you're an epidemiologist are you?" No, I'm not.

Blimey 21 pages? You all move quick!

I cannot see Whitty sneaking a lady in somehow because he had an itch Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 10/06/2020 18:33

Maybe he means worldwide, as a nation we are still in the middle of it?

countrygirl99 · 10/06/2020 18:33

That was a pretty minimal announcement wasn't it. Lovely for those affected but DS1, who lives with us, will continue to meet his girlfriend who lives with her parents, and I'm sure illegal sex will be involved.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 10/06/2020 18:33

Wooohoooo DD has a year 1 school place from Monday. She's so excited. I'm so fucking relieved!

justasking111 · 10/06/2020 18:34

The science is saying even if you have antibodies they do not know if you can catch it again (hangs head in despair)

Mascotte · 10/06/2020 18:35

@DominaShantotto 💐 We all go through this. Hang in there.... things will get better

I can imagine Whitty having an itch, that said I can imagine him in a gimp suit being "cruelly invaded" by a lady with a topknot and ridiculous shoes can't you? "Say I'm a very naughty boy and I deserve to be punished...."
Bollss · 10/06/2020 18:36

That's great @SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito!!

I can quite easily believe this was the second wave. A doctor in France found it in old samples too didn't he?

My boss was on deaths door with classic covid symptoms just after Christmas.

countrygirl99 · 10/06/2020 18:36

This is in the US not here but I'm sure it's the same. My 96yo aunt, who has dementia, has fallen and broken her hip and collar bone along with severe bruising. She lives with her daughter who is not allowed to visit her in hospital. Protecting the elderly my arse.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 10/06/2020 18:36

I am so annoyed right now. My dad will be allowed to visit my daughter in her flat and give her a hug, but I can't. Don't get me wrong I love my dad but the fact that he can do something that I so desperately want to do myself right now hurts like hell.

That girl is going to get such a bear hug when the time comes I'll probably damage a rib.

Bollss · 10/06/2020 18:37

Surely if that's the case we just have to get the fuck on with life? Because a vaccine won't work if that's the case will it?
justasking111 · 10/06/2020 18:38

So if a hermit living alone for three months, meets up with a female hermit, then they can make whoopee. Otherwise girls keep your hands on your ha`penny. Wink

Mrsfrumble · 10/06/2020 18:44

Was listening to the briefing live on radio 4 earlier and 9 yo DS wandered in and commented “they can open zoos but not schools? Seriously?” then sighed and walked out again. If he’d added “for fuck’s sake” I wouldn’t have told him off.

I feel you @DominaShantotto. Inside I’m permanently raging about how our children have been screwed over, when, as a headline I saw the other day put it, they have more chance of being struck by lightning than of dying from Covid. Mine tell me multiple times a day how much they wish they could go back, and I feel so completely helpless.

Mascotte · 10/06/2020 18:45

No shagging in Scotland

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/06/2020 18:45

Very pleased with today's announcement means we can officially do what we've been doing for weeks 😬

mightbealittlebitmad · 10/06/2020 18:49

@TrustTheGeneGenie I said the same r.e. the antibodies but not sure how it works.

r.e. the second wave, a friend of a friend is a nurse dealing directly with covid patients. She says it's her personal belief that this is the second wave. As a hospital they are coping totally fine and have all the correct measures in place so she doesn't understand what all the fuss is about.

We are Midlands based which I don't think has been doing too well. One of the doctors died at the beginning from one of our local hospitals in our trust.

Good news about the bubble, I don't know why they couldn't have done that all along though. I've never understood why I can live with my husband who goes to work whilst I'm furloughed but if I was single, lived alone, was furloughed couldn't form a bubble with someone else who works just because they live in a separate house.

Spoke to my dad overseas, they are ready to welcome UK passengers as of the 1st July. I have no idea why we are allowed to get on a plane with tons more people in a cramped environment but not send our kids back to school in a bubble of 30. There is no reason why primary schools in particular can't operate a 30 class bubble system if they are insistent on keeping them. Do everything the same as now but on a slightly bigger scale. The only issue I can see is with the parents queuing.

PickAChew · 10/06/2020 18:52

Leftish remainer and quite politically homeless. There isn't a single party I don't have to cross my fingers to vote for.

Littlebelina · 10/06/2020 18:55

@DominaShantotto Flowers

I think the tide is turning, maybe not fast but think it is

Littlebelina · 10/06/2020 18:57

Central/leftish remainer. Used to vote lib dems, held my nose and vote labour last time (mainly due to my mp)

justasking111 · 10/06/2020 19:01

Wales have to vote conservative because labour and plaid around here are just awful. Did not vote at all when Bebb was involved he was sooo bad. The new guy seems ok, a local raised boy but not rabid with his hands in the cookie jar.

justasking111 · 10/06/2020 19:03

The retailers assn. must be fed up with Wales and Scotland. It would be good if they could threaten to leave them swinging in the breeze and just concentrate on their english business.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 10/06/2020 19:03

I’ve heard back from the Us for Them campaign and am trying to arrange a chat. If they have any good ideas how to support them I’ll post them here
