Intergalactic..I’ve just treated my own very bad toothache.
Not sure if I’ve got it all yet but will see dentist when I can

BarkandCheese · 10/06/2020 13:19

I still can’t get through to our dentist, there just a recorded message about who to contact if you’re having a dental emergency. I don’t need to actually see a dentist I just need a new prescription for high fluoride toothpaste for DD, which she has because her enamel hasn’t formed properly. I can buy it online and will if she totally runs out but it’s very expensive.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 10/06/2020 13:19

If living with toothache and decay is the new normal then it can fuck right back to the Middle Ages

Oh how lovely Lani
And Tuscany of all places
Wtf are we doing still in our cages
Grrrrrr

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 10/06/2020 13:21

She's now safely ensconced in a cottage in Tuscany for the next 5 weeks.

Oh my goodness! Just something she's rented? I am so tempted to do that. I could hide away and write a screenplay or compose an opera or something. Plus have a few affairs with local Italian men. I'd eat a lot of tomatoes too. Italy feels so far away.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 13:22

@Laniakea

oh I just heard my friend escaped the UK ... got a KLM flight to Amsterdam & then (eventually!) got a flight from there to Pisa. She's now safely ensconced in a cottage in Tuscany for the next 5 weeks. I am so jealous it burns. She's Swedish, breathtakingly direct, takes zero crap & is utterly WTAF about the UK. I'll miss her ... the lucky cow Grin
Not sure I’ve ever been more jealous of someone!

I've given in to the idea of no holidays (for me at least) this summer. I hope that XH will be able to take ds2 somewhere in the second half of the summer holidays though.

I'm going to get my refunds and then book fabulous holidays next year instead.

I'm toying with the idea of asking my best friend if she'd like to stay over sometime soon. It's something we used to do regularly- just scary films and popcorn on the sofa- but really enjoyed. Ds1, although extremely dementory when it comes to Snogging and Hugging and Other Things I want to do with DP, seems ok with people being in the house, so it might be ok.

On that side of things though, following the Big Row, I've told him firmly that it's time for him to move out. He's 24 after all, has no money worries (inheritance from his father) and he can be a dementor in his own home, rather than trying to make the rules in mine.

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/06/2020 13:22

I went to the dentist on Monday. I have no idea if I've already mentioned this.

They patched up the teeth that were mid-treatment and are now worse due to lockdown and the delay in us being able to continue.

She said they had all their PPE, but until it's fit tested, they can't do much else. They anticipate that will be July. I'm so upset that we paid almost £1000 for specialist root canal that might fail now. And it's not even anyone's fault, we just need to pay again to resolve it, and pay more, because now it's worse.

NB It probably is my fault, I broke the composite on a mini egg Grin

Fucks sake- one of the schools was in touch saying one day a week at school for four weeks left not great but start.

Few hours later that's dropped to one morning a week being proposed.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 10/06/2020 13:27

I was due to have another colposcopy after still having HPV show up in smear. I already had a colposcopy last year which showed slight cell changes and they hoped it would go by this year. No such luck but colposcopy which was due in April has been cancelled for at least 6 months.

I‘m so cross about this. (In fact, I’m cross about so much at the moment that is covid related!)

I can’t decide whether to look into a private procedure for peace of mind

On a lighter note, zoos are opening!!! Very happy about this
My son was so pleased when he heard on Newsround that zoos are opening. He came in and asked me ever so sweetly if we could get when they do. It made me well up and I told him I will do my very best to get tickets but couldn’t promise straight away as everyone would be after them. I didn’t say anything out loud about fighting to the death for tickets for him but I definitely thought it. Grin

Hopefully all the dementors will stay away and allow the rest of us to buy tickets and give our children a bit of bloody fun

Dowser · 10/06/2020 13:28

Well said gene genie
But don’t pay the fine
Why capitulate to this artificial construct
Schools let you down. You take children on a much needed holiday to repair damage. Bollox to your fine. You can sod off.

People power..

Tooth problems are the worst. I had an awful labour with DD, back to back baby, long labour followed by EMCS followed by massive blood loss and several days in hospital, I’d rather do all that again than ever have toothache, an extraction followed by dry socket again. One of my biggest personal fears during lockdown has been developing tooth problems with no dental treatment available.
Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 13:30

Just had an email from the headmistress saying she intends to get all year groups back for at least 2 weeks before the end of term.
I’ve been so impressed with her throughout this. No negativity at all.

I’m waiting to hear our school’s plans. I’m hoping that my faith in the head will be repaid with a non-dementory plan

Weirdest experience at Barclays, received a cheque so went into town. Queued up, only one!! yep one person allowed in bank at a time. Even the chemists allow two. Met by a lady waving a j cloth and spray. Before lockdown they would not allow you to put cheques in automatic machine, money laundering, now I was expected to get to grips with some machine. It took five minutes with j cloth waving lady giving me instructions.

It was a relief to go to super savers chemist unfortunately I was behind a snail lady moving at. 0.2 miles an hour so I mouthed to staff member, wax facial strips, she said next aisle so I illegally reversed and went to next aisle.

I was surprised by the number of cars parked up on high street until I drove past M&S and saw the queues to get in. Aha penny dropped. I escaped back to our local co-op to do the shopping.

Our nightingale hospital I passed, unfit for use because it backed onto a petrol station so it was decided oxygen and petrol was a kaboom in the making. They have now taken over the sailing club for oxygen, they are building a bloody huge annexe to the club to house the oxygen the club house will be for god knows what. So despite boating being allowed again the club is off limits. I tell you I hope the club is being financially renumerated to make up for the loss of funds.

I think that's possible the option we'll end up doing at this rate - possible going abroad as we all have passports now.

Our youngest got a place on a school trip abroad, working towards it for most of the year, that got canceled due to covid and she won't be at the school next year if it even could be rescheduled. We got the passport is a huge rush for that.

Laniakea · 10/06/2020 13:38

Just something she's rented?

^yes! It helps that she's fluent in Italian. I just love her so much ... makes me feel free-er seeing her escape. She thinks the UK has gone completely mad & her plan is to keep her head down until we chill the fuck out or she's back off to Sweden (her dd has just graduated from university here so she's free to leave now).

I'm hoping other school has greater ambition to get children back - still waiting to hear.

@PickACoolUserName
There was 0 new cases in my area on Monday. Yesterday there were 2 new cases out of a population of half a million.

Where did you get that information, please? I think if you could get historical information for the past week or so you could get some sort of idea of the number of currently-active cases. You’d have to take a guess at how many were in care homes and hospitals (2/3? Just a wild guess, since I understand that most cases are in those settings now) and take out another proportion for the ones who are ill and/or know they might be infectious so are staying at home, then you’d have some sort of idea how many are walking around with the chance of infecting other people.

Which would be a great deal more useful and calming to dementors than knowing how many people in the area have died since March in circumstances that mean someone somewhere thinks they might have had CV so better put it on the death certificate.

ThatLibraryMiss · 10/06/2020 13:41

On the BBC welsh news last night it showed the type of three layer mask they want - water proof outter layer - filter layer and then a breatherable moisture wicking final layer next to face.

Is there some sort of filter built in? Because I would think a layer that’s waterproof will also be close to gas proof too, so you’d really struggle to move air through it.

justasking111 · 10/06/2020 13:41

OH urgent op cancelled NHS so grabbed private slot at spire, cancelled night before. The government have still not released private care despite the low figures and empty nightingale hospitals wtf is going on. My GP friend said their workload is down 70% which is the norm across her region. Other nurse friends are bored to tears who work outside covid areas.

My mammogram and smear test both cancelled. No idea when will restart. NHS looking at 2 year back log if we go back to normal in September. One good thing our friend did get to complete his chemo. so fingers crossed he has beaten throat cancer.

Thighmageddon · 10/06/2020 13:49

Prof Spectre has just been on the itv news saying he agrees with the use of face masks, and the 2m rule we should look to places like France with a 1m rule and learn from them.

And then he said "we should use common sense" That's very daring of him on daytime news Grin

bakingcupcakes · 10/06/2020 13:51

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've just been browsing electric toothbrushes as a possibility. I hate them but I'm thinking they might be a better choice for DS. I always kind of thought he was too young but he's not really. Now I can't decide whether to take a murderous trip to the shops to get one or whether to order it online. We may go the shops for something to do. Grin

I'm overdue at the opticians (for test and contact lenses) now. They aren't allowed to see anyone except emergencies either. This whole thing is starting to scare me a bit. The idea that basic health care will just disappear or become something only people with money can get. Although offering to pay wouldn't make much difference at the moment as it's 'the rules'.
