@bakingcupcakes

My daughter lost half of her tooth over the weekend and was in quite a lot of pain. I rang her (NHS) dentist on Monday to be met with a message which basically said 'we're not opening, look online for self help treatment or ring 111 if in severe pain.

I then rang my private dentist to see if they could see her. Not a problem, filling done yesterday, complete with drill and everything. £125 lighter but worth every penny.

It's shocking that there's barely any dental treatment and people must be being driven mad by the pain. I hope your son gets seen soon.

Flippetydip · 10/06/2020 12:33

Hi all - these threads move so fast but just coming in to say thank you for keeping up my spirits.

So pissed off about schools not reopening but trying to be positive (in amongst writing to MPs/DfE etc). There was a report issued today to say that children under 15 are more likely to die from a lightening strike than from COVID and that schools need to get going again. I couldn't agree more.

In positive news, my mum went into a hospital yesterday for a (non-covid) operation and it all went well. It seemed relatively sensible and not at all dramatic. She hasn't been told to isolate as a result so bugger it, we're going to see her on Saturday. We live 80 miles away so there will be toilet usage and no doubt some sitting in the house....

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 12:38

Our school doesn’t fine for term time holidays. Our headmistress said at the beginning of term ‘I won’t refer to the LEA for fines as long as you don’t take the piss’ (in those words Grin).

sprinklesone · 10/06/2020 12:43

@hestershaw please can i come. I want to be your friend 😂😂

PickACoolUserName · 10/06/2020 12:44

There was 0 new cases in my area on Monday. Yesterday there were 2 new cases out of a population of half a million.

Local news: Increase in cases in County.

FFS.

I let my kids use the swings in the playing field today. Literally murdered people.

justasking111 · 10/06/2020 12:45

Wales - 60% of us are apparently too scared to leave our homes so no point in opening our zoo or other outdoor facilities, nor retail shops, restaurants come to that. Where the heck did he pull these figures from.

justasking111 · 10/06/2020 12:47

Wales - 3 layered mask. No thanks I ordered a pack of 50 disposable hospital type masks one layer, which I have seen others wearing, that is enough for me. With asthma no way could I wear three layers.

Cattermole · 10/06/2020 12:47

Here, do you think social distancing will become the equivalent of sex with a condom? Not so much no glove, no love as - I dunno, no room, no gloom?

justasking111 · 10/06/2020 12:52

Wales - now he is doom and gloom just look at Devon Cumbria when the feral english were allowed out. Rationalising the lockdown.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 10/06/2020 12:56

Wales - more on the mysterious R number that now governs our life. I’d rather they sacrificed a turkey and read the entrails. Couldn’t be any more depressing

On the BBC welsh news last night it showed the type of three layer mask they want - water proof outter layer - filter layer and then a breatherable moisture wicking final layer next to face.

No way can we make that - we've made some two cotton layered ones.

I've not seen any like that on amazon yet either.

I think we'll stick with what we have and possible some neck gaiters with filters as well.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 10/06/2020 12:57

I’m just going to stick a plastic bag on my head and hope for the best

And does he think that is a good thing? On the contrary it’s an absolute failure on the part of the government to communicate the actual risks!
Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 10/06/2020 13:00

Anyway once 40% are out there living again I reckon the rest will be following. Surely if 40% of us do these things in the next few weeks that’s a pretty decent customer base?

And yes. Why exactly is everyone too scared? Because of your crappy miserable messaging!

@InterGalacticPenguin My son isn't in pain but his new front bottom teeth have come through while this is going on. One is marked, the other has what I think might be plaque/tartar on it and I'm really concerned about it just being left. He was due at the start of april anyway but I'm really bothered they'll be permanently damaged by the time we get an appointment. He let's me brush them but that's not making any difference. I know very little about teeth. Mine have always been good. I kind of expected his to be the same. I understand they aren't allowed but it's making me very angry. I'm glad you got your daughter seen.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/06/2020 13:02

Don't you hate it when you are reading something which seems reasonable and measured and then you get a dramatic comment thrown in?

Just looking at local council's plans - interested in road changes etc- then it starts on 'washing hands is a matter of life and death'

thenightsky · 10/06/2020 13:03

I've ordered some fabric to make masks for our family. We have a choice now of union jacks, navy polka dot, turquoise polka dot, or skulls and crossbones.

enjoyingSun · 10/06/2020 13:03

Next town is just under 5 miles and they have a city farm - I was hoping maybe they'd open and we could go as it's nearly all outdoors and within 5 mile restriction- but no not in Wales.

Told DH about them saying 5 miles might be all summer and he was doesn't Wales rely heavily on Tourism jobs.

We also thought if we did have to cancel Dorset holiday - we could maybe do a nearby city long weekend break depending on pet sitter avaliblity - but that's more than 5 miles.

Nihiloxica · 10/06/2020 13:03

A populace of terrified people is certainly an aim for some leaders...

Orangeblossom78 · 10/06/2020 13:04

Baking mine had a kind of weird narwhal type took for ages when coming out and new ones coming in. Electric toothbrushes can be quite good for cleaning and the DC tend to like them too

thenightsky · 10/06/2020 13:06

I queued at the pharmacy this morning. I was the only one without a mask. There were 4 of us in the queue. Two ladies who never stopped fiddling and adjusting them, including sticking fingers up inside and one bloke, who only covered his mouth and left his nose hanging out. He never stopped fiddling with his face either. Strangely, my mask free face didn't need touching.

SomewhereEast · 10/06/2020 13:07

I'm poised to get tickets to our nearest zoo the split second booking goes live. Also holding out hope for our local play farm type place, which is completely outdoors

Orangeblossom78 · 10/06/2020 13:07

Imagine if they did this for other diseases, heart disease for example

Don't have that big mac it could be the death of you
Dicing with death with driving a car (sedentary)
etc etc

It would not be tolerated. I got told off on here once when I mentioned DCs in Scotland going to the chippy every much (as we did as kids) was still going on and some primary schools even lets theirs go on Friday as preparation for big school.

Got told it was no problem and I was food shaming or some such

Laniakea · 10/06/2020 13:08

oh I just heard my friend escaped the UK ... got a KLM flight to Amsterdam & then (eventually!) got a flight from there to Pisa. She's now safely ensconced in a cottage in Tuscany for the next 5 weeks. I am so jealous it burns. She's Swedish, breathtakingly direct, takes zero crap & is utterly WTAF about the UK. I'll miss her ... the lucky cow Grin

DS front teeth get very marked - denstist says they just seem to pick staning which he can polish off and gave us some gritty toothpaste. So it may be fine - but I'd want it looked at as well.

I want DD1 to see her orthodontist as her brace needed adjusting right after start of lockdown and DD2 teeth need keeping an eye on as they keep having issues.

I've just got a sonic toothbrush

Was on offer when I got it - but it has five settings and the polish one was good on some of my back teeth with tarter staining build up - so might be worth a look.
