Lots of fudging on the question of moving to 1m social distancing on the briefing this evening. I feel like if it was an outright we’re not doing that they’d come out and say it, so it’s probably on the table right now.

I dropped my DS (16) off in town at 12.30 today to meet with his friends at the park, he's still out now. I'm so glad, he was starting to get really down, he was really chatty in the car on the way there.

I went for a wander around while I was there, got a Starbucks and strolled aimlessly around B&M and Boots. There were one or two people wearing face masks, jumping back like they'd been shot as people are walking past them, but most people are generally observing a social distance, as in, not hovering right next to you in the aisle, but happy to walk within 2 metres to walk past you of you're stood looking at something. It almost felt a bit normal.

Just watched the daily briefing, some firm questions by one journalist on the 2m rule and when it'll be reduced - lots of "when we decide it's safe" without an explanation of what exactly they're measuring and what those numbers will need to be for the government and/or scientists to decide "it's safe" .

Shall we just have a ‘people are fucking stupid’ thread?

The 1m thing I think is going to be bought in soon. If it is then surely it should have been done sooner to help more children get into schools...

That's a shame @thegreatwave as that was one of the better Debenhams stores. The one in newcastle is a pain to get around and the loos always have dodgy plumbing.

Miffed about the south Shields one, too, as I don't know anywhere else there with decent loos. There's morrisons but they never have any paper.

1m would make such a huge difference, not just for schools but for businesses too. Seeing as it’s the WHO’s recommended distance the dementors can’t even dement about it too much. Although what’s the betting when it changes there will be people still insisting on 2m just to be bloody minded.

That is indeed a miracle that paper has been worse than the DM on this subject. At least the DM just swing between sensationalist dementing and campaigning against lockdown.

My football team have been promoted today. Normally that would be a source of delirious celebration and much jumping up and down and raucous singing. It’s just... flat.

Mine will be in the play-offs. Flat here too.

We’ve only been promoted twice in my lifetime. I watched it happen at Wembley last time. What a contrast.

I gave up on attempting to reason and supply facts and figures on dementor threads so mine are way out of date. But the ONS is the place to start. It takes time to root around to find very specific things but they are there. And you do have to go back a few years to be truly prepped! The problem with dementors is they take already-appallingly-misleading headlines and then misinterpret them even further and state them as fact. Just be confident that 9x out of 10 they'll be totally wrong despite the shouting!
I might step away from work and home schooling to have a look at current figures and if I don't get too depressed I'll post a few stats!

Reminds me when Boris was off with Covid, same kind of answering. You got the feeling it was a case of "say nothing, agree nothing til I get back" so weeks of frustration and question dodging then Boris comes back and boom! All the answers, so I suspect any announcements to more embedded measures will only be delivered by Bojo.

They are trying their best to dement about the prospect on one of the school threads. My heart sinks when I see certain posters names on threads.

I reckon that the reduction from 2m to 1m will be saved for a Boris briefing. If it's anything exciting it'll be saved for him. Ditto if they decide on opening pubs early
