A 43-year-old German prisoner who travelled around Portugal in a camper van is now the focus of Scotland Yard's investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Hopefully this will shut up the disgusting trolls who have pointed the finger at the parents.

It won't.

I have no idea who was responsible, and as such cannot say whether they were or weren't. But what I do know is that some people are so overtly attached to the idea that the parent/s did it that there's no way they would accept any other answer, even if it were accompanied by a dozen witnesses and video footage.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if in the midst of this awful time we are living through, that finally, this case was solved and that it led to her being safe and well.

How 'safe and well' can a person be having been abducted from their parents for 13 years by a lone male predator?

I doubt she's safe and well, even in the very unlikely scenario that she's alive.

Hope so much for closure for those poor parents. It was shocking at the time and now all these years on and with a 3 year old of my own, it hits even harder. Awful case.

The report says the suspect, 'was in jail...' but don't clarify when he was in jail? Still in jail?

Interesting that the investigation is being handed to the German authorities.

I don’t think it’s him as he was born in 1970 but the new suspect is said to be 43.

I buried my son just after Madeleine went missing. I can actually remember him talking about her shortly before he died.
One of my prominent memories of that awful time was that I had closure and knew what had happened to my child.
I really don't think it matters now about the rights and wrongs of the fateful night. As parents most of us have made decisions that have been absolutely fine but just because nothing went wrong. We are fortunate enough to remain smug
I pray that Madeleine's parents will one day soon get the answers they need. I hope too that one day they can put their child to rest

It says he received a phone call just after 7.30 and was on the phone for about half an hour. What time was Madeline last checked on?

I hope this isn't another in a long line of dead ends and that her parents get some answers.

I very much hope this is the beginning of finding out where she is, even if she is no longer alive.
