A 43-year-old German prisoner who travelled around Portugal in a camper van is now the focus of Scotland Yard's investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

@BlackberryCane No but I think the poster who's just posted has summed up why people believe they are off.

TerrapinStation · 03/06/2020 21:31

Are you trying to get the thread delated @StarUtopia?

We're discussing new information not copy and pasted years old stuff that's totally irrelevant to a possible new lead

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 03/06/2020 21:31

randomer Most missing children are teenagers who are found a couple of days later, I imagine. Did you know that children's homes are not allowed to lock in teenagers, all they can do is phone the police each time?

Yes all child abductees should be investigated.

ListeningQuietly · 03/06/2020 21:32

And back in Cleethorpes, nobody would care
but Portugal is a nice "placement" for coppers
cynical?
moi?

The new suspect timing is 13 years later. Any views on that? I'm cynical, but always was.

Heygirlheyboy · 03/06/2020 21:36

What do you mean Frumpety?

SunbathingDragon · 03/06/2020 21:37

I hope there are some answers regarding this case.

BarbedBloom · 03/06/2020 21:37

Hopefully there are finally some answers. I admit to being very critical of her parents at the time and I still am inwardly I suppose, but it has been such a long time wondering what happened to her and living with that every single day. That is punishment enough I think.

A lot of people said at the time she was taken out of the country quickly and this does happen a lot with child abductions. It will be interesting to see where this goes. I have long believed she is dead, poor little thing, especially after they released that information about her unusual eye detail.

I am a member of unresolved mysteries on reddit and it is tragic reading about these cases and Madeline has been discussed many times. The mother of the poor Beaumont children died never knowing what had happened, so I hope they get closure somehow.

LizzieMacQueen · 03/06/2020 21:38

There was a point in the Netflix series where it briefly talked about a messy looking guy living out of a van that used to hang around Pria de Luz. I think there was footage of him at a street market with a young girl. Wonder if it's the same guy?

I wonder if that poster is doing the standard issue Dunning Kruger schtick too? There's a positive epidemic of people who know the square root of bugger all about trauma responses wading in when it comes to the McCanns. It's mystifying.

I mean, this isn't an area I'm remotely qualified to make a call on, because I have no professional expertise or lived experience of anything like this situation. So I don't. It's really easy. Yet it eludes so many.

SouthWestmom · 03/06/2020 21:39

Good god star I hope you just cut and paste that from some other weirdo's obsessive website and you didn't type it all out.

Honestly the 'facts' that have become accepted as truth no matter what the argument against is - it's not worth repeating the same stuff is it.

I hope this is the answer the family need even if it's not the one they would ever have wanted

ItsInTheShed · 03/06/2020 21:40

@StarUtopia clearly knows how to copy and paste off google Grin

RiseUp · 03/06/2020 21:40

@BarbedBloom I rarely post but I wanted to reply to you to say that's one of the most measured posts I've seen on this subject & reflects exactly how I feel.
Some others on this thread should really be ashamed of themselves.

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 03/06/2020 21:41

I was critical of the parents and I still am. They are not responsible for her being abducted or whatever happened to her and never ever deserved their living hell but you never leave your kids. Ever. Sadly I think he can refused an interview -it can't be forced. If he says nothing - no progress if he knows nothing no progress.

Thinkingabout1t · 03/06/2020 21:41

I pray that Madeleine's parents will one day soon get the answers they need. I hope too that one day they can put their child to rest.

This must be stirring up painful memories for you, Itoldyou, but you're thinking of Madeleine's family. I hope you receive as much kindness and comfort as you give out.

CathyorClaire · 03/06/2020 21:41

CathyorClaire which photo fit and spookily close to what?

Both in the Telegraph link.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/06/2020 21:41

I quite often Google about Madeliene. I saw one article by a psychic saying she was Living in Germany and goes by the name Melanie. I pulled a face at it and read it with doubt. However could there be some truth in it.

schoolsoutforcovid · 03/06/2020 21:42

"This sounds familiar, summer coming up, obviously time for the police to produce a new suspect resulting in them all having to go to Portugal for several weeks." 😂😂

Yes. The police are all off to sun themselves for a few weeks...utterly bizarre thinking

I feel like a lot of people have allowed the media to lead them to feel they know the family, but people you dont.
I always thought the parents were involved, particularly as they are doctors, but that doesn't mean I'm a troll or anything else, I just have my own perception. Of course I would be glad that the parents find peace and answers, but no more than any other family I don't know who are also suffering in similar circumstances.

What does "particulary as they are doctors" mean?
frumpety · 03/06/2020 21:50

@Heygirlheyboy I wonder if they have suspicions about other people who may have some knowledge, but have been too frightened to come forward, cue the emphasis on the suspect being in prison.

@frumpety Yes! I assume because people would be scared of the fallout otherwise. Who wouldn’t?

He’s not the earlier suspect but he is in prison for sex crimes against children. He’s also committed a number of offences where he acted on behalf of others - drug runner etc - so he was either paid or could equally be capable himself.

I really really hope they get some answers soon.
