A 43-year-old German prisoner who travelled around Portugal in a camper van is now the focus of Scotland Yard's investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

“ I'm not really sure I believe these 'exciting new lead in the search for Madeleine' stories. They always seem to hit the press just before the police apply for extra funding for the investigation. ”

Cynical me though something similar. I hope Scotland Yard spend similar amounts of time, resources and money on all missing children.

@Noeuf

The suspect people are confusing this one with is not the same. That was a convicted paedophile initials MN I think. This suspect has not been named and his crimes not revealed.
I was reading the Telegraph report. Is this latest suspect different, then?
randomer · 03/06/2020 21:00

How many other children are " missing"...hundreds? thousands? Poor, poor things and poor families.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/06/2020 21:00

If she is alive surely she 'd have no memory of her life with her family.
I'd imagine she's going to have to build up a relationship with them before she goes back to the m.

GarlicSoup · 03/06/2020 21:00

@DrDreReturns. Would you leAve "it" alone if heaven forbid it were your child. I'd still be ripping the earth up with my bear hands.

Completely agree @Awwlookatmybabyspider

thepeopleversuswork · 03/06/2020 21:01

CheerfulPotato I wouldn't move on if I were the parents, of course, but I don't understand why the rest of the nation is obliged to be in this state of perpetual grief over this child. It's morbid and self-indulgent.

The grinning emojis seem a bit out of place on this thread.

tangochutney · 03/06/2020 21:03

Wow can’t believe how long it’s been- she’d be just turned 17 now.

I always think of the younger twin siblings who must be in their teens now. They won’t remember any of it yet it must follow them everywhere- surely everybody at school and so on will know who they are, it must hang over them a bit.

I really hope this brings some answers but there have been numerous ‘breakthroughs’ reported over the years that never lead anywhere.

CathyorClaire · 03/06/2020 21:04

That photofit is spookily close.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 03/06/2020 21:05

There was never any evidence that the parents had anything to do with it at all.

SouthWestmom · 03/06/2020 21:05

Shine - just read that and it does mention a source saying that but they can't confirm. I think before your comment ppl were wondering if it was the same suspect that had been considered before.

Thisismytimetoshine · 03/06/2020 21:07

Ah, I see.

randomer · 03/06/2020 21:07

The nation worries about a little fair haired kid...go figure. friends in the right places.

NoseyfriendNC · 03/06/2020 21:08

I hope the parents get closure too. I can't imagine how it must feel losing a child but not even being able to grieve because you don't know if they are dead must be awful!

I just hope they get the right person and don't just pin it on someone who doesn't have an alibi.

TheSultanofPingu · 03/06/2020 21:10

Reading some of the comments on here I'm not surprised these threads get deleted.

ElectricTonight · 03/06/2020 21:11

I don't think I need to be a professional in anything to form an opinion on something and as a mother I'd not leave my children in an apartment in foreign country to begin with.

Obviously no one knows what happened to Madeleine, I also didn't say I think the parents murdered her I simply said something was off about them but I suppose I could give people the same opinion on me.

I just hope this lead isn't a dead end.

These are real people you're posting about

Chicchicchicchiclana · 03/06/2020 21:15

Hopefully this new line of enquiry will lead somewhere.

I feel for the McCanns and hope the case is solved. That doesn't mean I feel "obliged to be in this state of perpetual grief over this child." That's a really silly and self-indulgent remark in itself @thepeopleversuswork.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 03/06/2020 21:17

"The nation worries about a little fair haired kid...go figure. friends in the right places."

What does this even mean? ^^

randomer · 03/06/2020 21:17

In the United Kingdom, an estimated 112,853 children are reported missing every year.

JMAngel1 · 03/06/2020 21:17

Now that I have children, I can't believe they left them in an apartment to go out to a bar without a babysitter. I don't think I appreciated how irresponsible and horrific that was at the time. I'm surprised that social services weren't involved wth the twins after the kidnap.

I hope that some closure comes - that poor little girl let down by her parents.

ScarfLadysBag · 03/06/2020 21:18

@ListeningQuietly At least spell her name right if you're going to post shite about it
