Can share why if you want or just share the song name. Or add a link so we can listen.

Attended an online funeral today and they played Highland Cathedral and realised it is always one that gets me. I was at this Proms in the Park that's seen on the video and I cried then and cried today when I heard it.

sufjan stevens - casimir pulaski day

Knittingnanny · 24/05/2020 23:46

I love so many songs already mentioned on this thread. I’ve got such a long list of favourites for my funeral music that it will be a three hour concert! Lots of classical favourites too
I also love
Til there was you - Beatles
So long Maryanne - Leonard Cohen
2 hearts - Phil Collins

And my absolute favourite
To where you are - josh groban or G 4
Just listen to the words if you are unfamiliar with the song, I start to have a lump in my throat at the first line

MattBerrysHair · 24/05/2020 23:47

And this makes my heart soar....

The Waterboys - Fisherman's Blues

Mumoftwo12345 · 24/05/2020 23:56

Katie Melua - I will be there.
I watched my mother in law pass away 5 years ago. This song reminds me of her and now i play it also to remind me of my mum and Nan who I wish I could go and hug right now.

I’m going to say a strange one . The place where lost things go - from the Mary poppies 2 file
I don’t know what happened to me in that film but I saw it 8 times . There was so much I identified with in it - the loss of the children’s mother , the remembrance of Mary poppins helping the father the first time, the financial struggles , losing the family home , kids being brave .... I saw it at a time when my marriage had collapsed due to adultery and my dd was an in patient due to anorexia and I was holding my family via a very thin rope that could break at any point . When the father sang about his dead wife and Mary poppins sang to the kids about their mother not being lost but just “ out of reach “ it totally did it for me. Tears pouring down . Saw it time and again processing it all

Nightswimming - REM. Bittersweet but just perfect

Whispers - Passenger. Like hearing my own life put to music

Time of my Life - Green Day. My funeral song

If I Should Fall Behind - Bruce Springsteen. My wedding song and so perfect, just a shame it didn’t work out

Rachmaninov - Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. About as perfect as a piece of music can get

Hello Again - Neil Diamond. Just because

ChocolateCheesecake20 · 25/05/2020 00:35

Dance with my father

Butterfly kisses.

Crunchymum · 25/05/2020 00:42

Many Rivers to cross - Jimmy Cliff
Never Tear us apart - Paloma Faith
Lay Me Down - nonpronoun Smith
Everything Now - Arcade Fire
I Am Woman - Helen Reddy (I change the "woman" to "mother")

Some of them have a connection to my children (and / or being pregnant with them)

Jimmy Cliff is just Sad Sad

Helen Reddy is my 'fighting' song

SamK93 · 25/05/2020 00:44

Adele - someone like you

Lozz22 · 25/05/2020 01:21

Somewhere Over the rainbow . Doesn't matter which version it is. It always has me in a blubbering mess. I used to sing it to our Rainbow Baby before I miscarried again
Gone too soon By Daughtry will be played on our Babies birthdays
This woman's work Kate Bush
Fix you Cold play
Everybody hurts Rem
Get here Oleta Adams
Don't give up Kate bush and Peter Gabriel
Stargazing Kygo. It used to be the cool down song for Body pump and I would just be stood there with tears streaming down my face whilst it played

StinkyWizzleteets · 25/05/2020 01:34

I heard Badly Drawn Boy’s The Shining on the radio today and spontaneously burst into tears. I loved the song when it came out but it reminds me of huge changes in my life at the time that eventually led to splitting up with my boyfriend of 10 years. It was totally the right decision but the emotions of that period were horrible and being reminded of it all is horrible.

Lozz22 · 25/05/2020 01:40

Sweet Sixteen by the Inkspots.

MargotLovedTom1 · 25/05/2020 02:21

I can't hear Bright Eyes without crying. Almost like a Pavlovian reaction!

Also:
Eiledon by Big Country

Very emotional songs.

omtotheg · 25/05/2020 02:29

Adele- when we were young.
Just sums up my life. Luckily I'm married to him now

Puddlelane123 · 25/05/2020 05:09

I will carry you - Selah
Still - Gerrit Hofsink

Will forever associate these songs with my lost babies. Just beautiful

Iorderedyouapancake · 25/05/2020 05:25

Playboy Mommy by Tori Amos - about her miscarriage. Gets me every time.

Also a slightly oddball one - mr rock and roll by Amy Macdonald- the lyrics are full of regret for what might have been; makes me think about all the things I wish had been different in my life
