I didn't realise she was due already. Baby boy born this morning!

So to be clear the best thing about Boris is Labour lost the last election, is that right?

Hahaha yes!

Figures and more figures about vote share yes. But what actually has he done?

Womenwotlunch · 01/05/2020 12:37

@FizzyGreenWater- You have summed it up. As long as you have the support of the gutter press you have a chance of being elected, charisma or no charisma.

Womenwotlunch · 01/05/2020 12:46

@Roussette- Boris Johnson will be unable to bluster his way through PMQs next week.
Even Dominic Raab looked intimidated by Keir Starmer’s superior intellect.
It appears that some posters regard an individual with a detailed, forensic approach to information as someone who lacks charisma. Make it make sense

Helmetbymidnight · 01/05/2020 12:52

After a career as an MP, London Mayor, For.Sec and PM - apparently the only thing Boris supporters can find to say that's good about him and his career as MP, Mayor, For-Sec, and PM, is the public prefer him very slightly to the hated Corbyn.
That is very funny.

What a legacy though, eh! What a hero. Grin

Selmaselma · 01/05/2020 12:53

What is charismatic about Boris Johnson?

Helmetbymidnight · 01/05/2020 12:53

His fertility?

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 13:01

It’s not charisma, it’s populism. Same as Trump.

Roussette · 01/05/2020 13:06

@Womenwotlunch

Totally agree. And I shall be watching - if of course Boris does PMQ. Forgetting his covid which was nasty, he comes across as very part time. 2 weeks in Caribbean, 2 weeks at Chevening and so on.

As long as his health permits, the real work starts now. Show us what you're made of Boris Grin

CendrillonSings · 01/05/2020 13:07

is the public prefer him very slightly to the hated Corbyn.

“Very slightly”? Numbers aren’t your strong point, are they? Grin

Roussette · 01/05/2020 13:08

Bit bored of the numbers now TBH, we know about the landslide, you haven't stopped mentioning it! Past glories and all of that... let's see what he can do.

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 13:12

“Corbyn blah blah, landslide blah blah, Boris simper, vote share blah blah, Marxist more bollocks Grin

Remind anyone of someone?

CendrillonSings · 01/05/2020 13:16

Alsohuman

Don’t worry, you’ll get over your bitterness one day! Grin

Roussette · 01/05/2020 13:23

Cendrillon you are so ner ner ner ner ner about it all. But no substance apart from that.

Let's look at just one of his lies from yesterday's press briefing... "we have succeeded in avoiding the tragedy we have seen in other parts of the world"

Really? A country with no land borders just about the worst number of deaths in the whole of Europe, and that's a success?

God help us

Helmetbymidnight · 01/05/2020 13:25

three hundred thousand, and thirty four, nine hundred and seventy four thousand?

No, I'm genuinely surprised that's all you've got. A life-time in politics - a lifetime of opportunity and all you've got is: Uh, well, durh, he got nearly three million more votes than the most hated leader of all time.

The best even his die-hard fans can say about Boris is he's not Corbyn.

That is funny.

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 13:27

So true, all the tediously smug gloating is like a fly buzzing round your head. I strongly suspect that there’s an intelligent human being hiding behind that facade, Cendrillon, why don’t you let them out every now and then?

CendrillonSings · 01/05/2020 13:36

Well, we all have to amuse ourselves somehow during lockdown, don’t we? Plus I quite enjoy being one of the few voices on politics threads offering an antidote to the hailstorm of shit coming from the other side.

Roussette · 01/05/2020 13:40

and we're a hailstorm of shit? That is laughable and has amused me.

I bet you think Priti Vile Patel is a good Home Secretary too!

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 13:47

You can offer an antidote with a bit of intelligent debate. And you were doing this when Covid was still a glint in a bat’s eye, it’s been your modus operandi for as long as I can remember. Which is a real shame because I’m convinced you’re really selling yourself short here.

ducksback · 01/05/2020 13:47

Yes to the gravitas he has, and his forensic attention to detail having been a lawyer. Such a contrast to Boris the bullshitter. Sod the charisma. Let's have detail, facts and knowledge

Starmer appears to believe that sex is 'assigned at birth' and that human beings can change sex so how does that square with your facts and knowledge?

ducksback · 01/05/2020 13:49

I am no fan of the Tories but thank god they kicked self id in to the long grass where it needs to stay.
Labour and the Lib Dems have yet to get over their obsession with identity politics.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 01/05/2020 14:11

Bingo!

Boris and Carrie have had their baby
ducksback · 01/05/2020 14:12

It is definitely not the right wingers on here who keep mentioning Corbyn. Grin

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 01/05/2020 14:17

@Helmetbymidnight I went to a talk by gay writer and genius Russell T Davies last year on the week that Johnson became PM and he said that London and the country at large was a worse and sadder place for having a man in the top job who thought that even thinking the expression “tank-topped bum-boys” was okay, let alone writing if a national newspaper. He got a standing ovation. Johnson is a disgusting homophone amongst many other things and his supporters should be ashamed that they continue to excuse his poor words and poor behaviours.

Clavinova · 01/05/2020 14:22

I think Boris Johnson's charisma shines through in this video clip;

www.euronews.com/2019/10/17/watch-hearty-handshakes-as-boris-johnson-toasts-brexit-deal-with-eu-leaders

We have no idea what Starmer’s policies are yet, he’s only been leader for five minutes.

Only that he wants to give full voting rights to resident EU citizens - so they can vote in UK general elections - a privilege that other European countries do not give to their foreign nationals.

Clavinova · 01/05/2020 14:46

Pink News have taken a more pragmatic approach to Boris Johnson here;

"Boris Johnson LGBT rights record: Anti-gay slurs mixed with surprisingly liberal stance."

"In Parliament, Boris Johnson was an early pro-LGBT rebel. Despite his early beliefs, Johnson’s legislative record is markedly more liberal."

"Elected to Parliament for the first time in 2001, Johnson rebelled against his own party on several occasions to back LGBT+ rights measures."

"Defying the Conservative leadership at the time, Johnson voted in 2003 to abolish Section 28, which banned the “promotion” of homosexuality in schools, and voted in 2004 to permit civil partnerships for same-sex couples."

"Alongside George Osborne and John Bercow, Johnson was one of just a handful of Tory MPs who were willing to back the Labour government’s LGBT+ reforms."

"As Mayor of London, Boris Johnson backed equal marriage.Serving as Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016, Johnson led the city’s Pride parade on several occasions."

"Two years later, he backed the Out4Marriage campaign calling on the government to pass equal marriage, adding: “I see absolutely no reason why that happy state should be denied to anybody in our country and that’s why I am supporting the Out4Marriage campaign.”

"After becoming Theresa May’s Foreign Secretary in 2016, Johnson scrapped a controversial ban on Pride flags being flown from UK embassies and consulates around the world."

"The Foreign Secretary also met with Russian LGBT activists and praised their work on a trip to the country in 2017."
