I didn't realise she was due already. Baby boy born this morning!

I was very lucky indeed. Quick, diagnosis, surgery 3 weeks later and excellent treatment and aftercare. Tbh, I tried to file it away as quickly as I could afterwards and consider myself perfectly healthy now.

I can’t watch the reports about people not receiving their treatment now. It’s desperate for them. It could have been a different story if I was diagnosed this February or March.

ducksback · 01/05/2020 09:31

In your opinion

Well...yes, obviously. Hmm

ducksback · 01/05/2020 09:33

Fuck charisma. What we need is proper grownups and Starmer’s definitely one of those. He’s also a complete contrast to Johnson and will show up just how much he’s style over substance. The Labour leader needs gravitas, not charisma and Starmer’s got that in buckets

To get elected to power the next leader will need charisma. Sorry but that is just a fact. The public will not vote for anyone without it. Starmer is there to clean up the LP and I hope to god that he does it soon.

ducksback · 01/05/2020 09:35

I am disappointed yet again Labour could not produce a female leader

Me too but Nandy and L-B were fools who would not even accept that biological sex exists and I am glad that Starmer beat them.
The hard left has shown itself to be very misogynist and that needs to be addressed pronto. Another job for Starmer.

Helmetbymidnight · 01/05/2020 09:37

Boris supporters, which of the many great things he has done makes you most proud?

Getting sacked from two jobs for lying.
Arranging to get a journalist beaten up.
Saying that Nazanin Radcliffe was teaching journalism in Iran.
The affairs and the 5-7 children?
Being anti Heathrow expansion but not voting!
The £350 mil a week for the NHS
40 promised hospitals
The hugely expensive Garden Bridge debacle
Jennifer Accuri scandal
Gays are bum boys, children of single mothers are aggressive etc, letter boxes etc.
the expensive unused water cannons.
hiding in a fridge,
speaking to the TV cameras he invited in saying 'there's no media here'
Proudly shaking hands with corona patients.
His lovely 'term-time' holidays.

BuddleiaTime · 01/05/2020 09:43

How dare you tell the truth about Johnson, Helmet?

You will cause his groupies to rend their garments.

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 09:47

No it isn’t a fact. It’s an opinion and a pretty ridiculous one too. I reckon by the end of the Johnson shit show the electorate will be pretty tired of charisma and want some proper adult leadership.

ducksback · 01/05/2020 09:50

The most successful Labour leader was Tony Blair - love him or hate him, he had charisma in spades.
So tell me again how 'ridiculous' my opinion is...

1forsorrow · 01/05/2020 09:53

The most successful Labour leader was Tony Blair - love him or hate him, he had charisma in spades. Again in your opinion, turned me off Labour for quite a few years.

Chillipeanuts · 01/05/2020 09:55

Tony Blair’s charisma escaped me too. I always found him quite scarily, cheerily ruthless.

Chillipeanuts · 01/05/2020 09:56

(Much preferred Gordon Brown but there weren’t many of us 😁)

ducksback · 01/05/2020 09:57

It's a very widely held opinion whether you like him or not! He turned many away from Labour BECAUSE he was seen as style over substance.

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 09:58

The most successful Labour leader was Clement Attlee. Churchill’s remarks about empty taxis and much to be modest about are well documented. He was the charisma free zone who won a landslide and created the welfare state.

ducksback · 01/05/2020 09:58

Well I was a great admirer of John Smith but I can still see that TB did a great deal for the LP.

ducksback · 01/05/2020 10:01

I would count success as winning three consecutive general elections.

ducksback · 01/05/2020 10:02

In this context I mean - we were discussing getting elected.

CendrillonSings · 01/05/2020 10:53

Boris supporters, which of the many great things he has done makes you most proud?

Easy - the effortless way he flattened the silly Marxists, inflicting Labour’s worst defeat since 1935.

That was pretty special 🥰

Roussette · 01/05/2020 10:54

The next leader will need charisma - Starmer has none

Totally disagree. We'll see won't we?
Yes to the gravitas he has, and his forensic attention to detail having been a lawyer. Such a contrast to Boris the bullshitter. Sod the charisma. Let's have detail, facts and knowledge.

I liked John Smith too. Tony Blair no no no. I could never take to him and when he said God told him to bomb Iraq, that was it for me.

CendrillonSings · 01/05/2020 10:55

No it isn’t a fact. It’s an opinion and a pretty ridiculous one too. I reckon by the end of the Johnson shit show the electorate will be pretty tired of charisma and want some proper adult leadership.

Hopefully that’ll work out the same way as your last set of political predictions! Grin

Couldn't agree more. Labour were decimated in the last election and no matter who they have as their leader, charisma or no charisma, they have zero chance of winning an election with their current policies. As Starmer's policies are the same as Corbyn's, that means you can forget winning the next election and probably the one after..

War criminal Blair had charisma? He had about as much charisma as a boiled egg. Grin

FizzyGreenWater · 01/05/2020 11:29

The next leader will simply need to have the gutter press in their pocket. It's that simple isn't it - why on earth anyone prattles on about what Boris Johnson has 'achieved' I do not know. He's achieved nothing himself - worse, we all know full well that if Johnson was part of a party that the right-wing press didn't want in power, his 'achievements' in lying, being part to illegal activity as per Brexit, of siring multiple children outside of his marraige, etc etc would have been absolute gold to said press and would have ENSURED he never, ever got elected.

We have a much bigger problem than any single unpleasant politician and it is the British press. They are the reason we will never have the kind of real coalition government we see in some other nations that might be a step closer to actually representing the majority of what people want, whilst ensuring that the more extreme ideologies of both 'sides' don't devastate the lives of ordinary people.

FizzyGreenWater · 01/05/2020 11:30

War criminal Blair had charisma? He had about as much charisma as a boiled egg

Perfectly timed comment. Yes, exactly. He didn't need any more charisma than that of a boiled egg to win three elections, because the right-wing press ok'd him.

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 11:31

they have zero chance of winning an election with their current policies

Those same policies the current crisis has forced the Tories to adopt? We have no idea what Starmer’s policies are yet, he’s only been leader for five minutes.

Helmetbymidnight · 01/05/2020 11:50

So to be clear the best thing about Boris is Labour lost the last election, is that right?

CendrillonSings · 01/05/2020 12:10

So to be clear the best thing about Boris is Labour lost the last election, is that right?

Oh no, Boris definitely won it, all right. The Conservative vote share was 43.6%, the highest for any party since Thatcher’s 43.9% in 1979, beating even Blair’s 43.2% in 1997.

That’s a 40-year electoral record for vote share. Most of the whining comes from people who just can’t cope with that fact Smile
