I didn't realise she was due already. Baby boy born this morning!

I thought once cancer treatment was finished the follow ups went on for years, that was the experience in my family. I think it started off with 6 month reviews, then annual, so unless she doesn't have those follow ups I think she is still going through it. I know with my relative the build up to the annual follow ups is stressful.

1forsorrow · 30/04/2020 13:32

It might have been a landslide in seats but not in votes.

Catsingangs · 30/04/2020 13:52

Yes, and you have to own that majority now. I'm really pleased about it, it means no more excuses, no more 'but labour'.
Cons completely own this shit show of a govt and pm. No one else to blame.
Johnson joking about operation last gasp, big Ben bongs, and twatting about in Mustique when he should have been leading the response to this crisis.
40k estimated dead on his watch.
Enjoy that majority. Smh.

Roussette · 30/04/2020 14:04

Absolutely. They own it now. Blaming Labour is impossible, those days have gone.
Austerity has been proven not to work, it was an economic failure.

And quite rightly the NHS will be our heroes for a long time to come, so cut back at their peril, nurses and care workers are the most popular people on the planet.

They have to get themselves out of this. But first... there's a lot of questions to be answered about how unprepared we were, especially after Cygnet recommendations which the Govt totally ignored, showing out appalling death rate (now the most in Europe) was down to incompetence.

Boris has his work cut out and all the bluster and buffoonery ain't gonna cut it.

Clavinova · 30/04/2020 14:10

I wonder if Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is delighted at the news?

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is still serving her original sentence. There were fears that Boris Johnson's faux pas might add an extra 5 years but that doesn't appear to be the case after all. He is not to blame for her original predicament - she lost her final appeal 6 months before his error.

cantory · 30/04/2020 14:13

@1forsorrow Am I right those reviews are for check ups, not treatment?

Clavinova · 30/04/2020 14:14

twatting about in Mustique when he should have been leading the response to this crisis

I thought that was a Christmas/New Year holiday?

CendrillonSings · 30/04/2020 14:16

Do you really think the same stuff you carp on about every day isn’t tedious? If you’re got the right to bore for England, then so do the rest of us!

And it wasn’t another world, it’s this one. Covid didn’t miraculously give 365 MPs to Labour and 202 to the Conservatives, you know! Wink

Enjoy that majority.

Enjoy it? I love it 🥰

Roussette · 30/04/2020 14:16

Nazanin's husband doesn't share your Boris enthusiasm.

Quote
“Of course it’s not all [Johnson’s] fault,” said Ratcliffe. “Clearly we are camped here because the Iranian authorities are imprisoning Nazanin, but he should take responsibility for his mistakes because they have consequences. Not just the gaffe – the failure to apologise afterwards clearly made things worse. I think it’s bad for a candidate not to take responsibility for their mistakes because the most important thing for a prime minister is to take responsibility for their country.”

Clavinova · 30/04/2020 14:16

especially after Cygnet recommendations

What were the recommendations of Exercise Cygnus?

TinRoofRusty · 30/04/2020 14:18

Well-stated @ Thymeout.

Roussette · 30/04/2020 14:20

Mustique Christmas/New Year (still questions to be asked about that)
February - 2 weeks at Chevening during Storm Dennis and missing the 5 COBR meetings

CendrillonSings · 30/04/2020 14:21

I wonder if Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is delighted at the news?

She’s a prisoner of the theocratic dictatorship in Iran, not of the British Government - not that you’d know it from all the ridiculous (and repetitive, and tedious) moaning.

Alsohuman · 30/04/2020 14:22

What were the recommendations of Exercise Cygnus?

We’ll never know since Jeremy Hunt conveniently buried it. This is what The Telegraph said about it:

There is one other difference. While the real Covid-19 epidemic is being played out in public, the report detailing the findings of Exercise Cygnus have never seen the light of day. A senior former government source with direct involvement in the exercise said they were deemed “too terrifying” to be revealed. Others involved cited “national security” concerns.

“There has been a reluctance to put Cygnus out in the public domain because frankly it would terrify people,” said the former senior government source yesterday.

“It’s right to say that the NHS was stretched beyond breaking point [by Cygnus]. People might say we have blood on our hands but the fact is that it’s always easier to manage the last outbreak than the one coming down the track. Hindsight is a beautiful thing.”

Roussette · 30/04/2020 14:24

Clavinova, I'm sure you can find out. Not sure how you can defend the Government after the Panorama programme.
Warnings back in 2016 that were ignored, counting a pair of gloves as 2 to fiddle the figures, unaccountability for millions of respirators going missing
and so on

TinRoofRusty · 30/04/2020 14:25

Exactly, cantory.

Clavinova · 30/04/2020 14:38

Nazanin's husband doesn't share your Boris enthusiasm.

I understand his frustration of course, but those comments were made during the conservative leadership campaign, not least to keep his wife's plight in the public eye - you can't blame him [Nazanin's husband] for that.

Roussette · 30/04/2020 14:47

'he should take responsibility for his mistakes because they have consequences'
is all we need to know

Alsohuman · 30/04/2020 14:47

Lost interest in Cygnus @Clarinova?

Clavinova · 30/04/2020 15:15

Lost interest in Cygnus @Clarinova?

No, ds2 needed my help with school work.

“There has been a reluctance to put Cygnus out in the public domain because frankly it would terrify people,” said the former senior government source yesterday.

I have already quoted this from NHS England several times;

"Our preparations for pandemic influenza were exercised in October 2016 with NHS England participating in Exercise Cygnus. The exercise was set seven weeks into a severe pandemic outbreak and challenged the NHS to review its response to an overwhelmed service with reduced staff availability."

“It’s right to say that the NHS was stretched beyond breaking point [by Cygnus]

Day 1 of the exercise had the NHS with an overwhelmed service.

Without seeing the report we don't know what the terrifying conclusions were. Could be all sorts of things relating to storage of excess bodies, rationing intensive care allocation based on age/health conditions...

"Plans are currently being revised to incorporate the learning from this exercise and ensure our continued preparedness for future pandemic influenza outbreaks."

Sounds a bit ominous here;

"We are also continuing the challenging work around the management of surge and escalation decision making processes."

Catsingangs · 30/04/2020 15:17

I thought that was a Christmas/New Year holiday?
Ah yes good point. I got his holidays mixed up.
He's spent a lot of time hiding on holiday Grin

Clavinova · 30/04/2020 15:44

Not sure how you can defend the Government after the Panorama programme.

I've only seen two brief clips from the programme - two anonymous hospital/healthcare workers. German doctors have posed naked in protest at ppe shortages;

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/04/2020 15:58

Jeremy Hunt conveniently buried (the Cygnus recommendations)

Tells us all we need to know doesn't it? Hmm

I had a wry smile about a pair of gloves being counted as 2 items though, and wondered about disposable papers. You get hundreds of those things in a pack, so just think of the fiddling potential there ...

1forsorrow · 30/04/2020 18:27

@cantory, well I'm not too intrusive about what happens at the check ups but my understanding is that there are various tests to see if there is any sign of the cancer, if there are there is treatment. I was told you aren't considered cured until you have been clear for 5 years.

1forsorrow · 30/04/2020 18:27

I don't know if the 5 years is for all cancers or just the one she has.
