Why is everyone suddenly attempting to be a hairdresser?

Suddenly everyone is desperate for a haircut (and people are hacking away at their own and their partners hair. What's going on? We've been in lockdown for weeks, not months. Everyone's losing the plot 😂

My step dad hacked at his with a dog grooming kit and looks like he had an arm spasm half way through and has hacked a massive uneven bit off.
My friend let her husband cut hers when they were both pissed and he's taken about 30cm off (funny at the time, but not the next morning) and I've seen various other hack jobs 🤣🤣

Me, I'm just going to wait until the professionals are available again like a sensible person 😂

I’ve cut my fringe it was getting on my nerves to be fair I have it trimmed every few weeks so it needed it ! It’s not rocket science just go steady and don’t keep going at it if you go wrong and please don’t drink whilst doing it 🤭

keffie12 · 21/04/2020 17:43

Fortunately my hair is long and doesn't need to be shaped. It's only my hairdresser that will be trimming it when they reopen. No way even if it needed shaping would I would do it myself

It also needs the roots done. I was due at the hairdressers the week we were put on lockdown.

Being of a certain age greys are showing throughout the roots which I am not impressed by

Again my hairdresser does my colouring. I can't cope with the grey though.

I have bought an expensive root hair colour smudger through a hair salon which have online tutorials and also an extensive questionnaire colour test so you buy the right one.

It has just arrived today. I shall be applying it tonight after I have washed my hair. As I am only washing once a week now (usually do twice) the tube should last me a while as the roots only need re-doing every 3 washes

Probably because they can get lots of views for looking like morons and have time for it to grow back

My kids need their hair cutting every 4-5 weeks. They now haven’t had a proper hair cut since February half term. We have had to cut their fringes so that they can actually see!

mumof2exhausted · 21/04/2020 17:48

I’ve been thinking the same thing. I’m not leaving the house (apart from supermarket once a week) and a walk daily. Hair pulled up in a bun all day. Could do with a cut but who cares, the only people I interact with is husband and children! Just wait until out of lockdown. Only thing I would do is trim kids fringe if they couldn’t see anymore!

RoseLillian · 21/04/2020 17:48

My DH tends to have his hair cut very short and then not cut it in ages. Unfortunately lock down happened at a point it hadn’t been cut in a long time. I have long hair which I always trim myself anyway. It obviously looks fine as female family members with long hair have asked me to trim theirs. I was a bit dubious when DH asked me to cut his hair. Doing long hair you just need to cut it in a straight line. Doing all the different layers in a mans hairstyle is very different. That said DH was very happy with the result. He said it was better than the hairdressers as they clip the back and sides where as I used scissors. Not everyone cutting their own hair is butchering it.

Admittedly I wouldn’t be letting DH cut mine and certainly not while drunk.

sausagepastapot · 21/04/2020 17:53

DS is a hairy monster and already needed cut pre-lockdown. I have all the stuff and there are plenty of great tutorials, so why the fuck not?

FelicisNox · 21/04/2020 18:07

Because people are drama queens.

Never mind the fact that most of us were quite happy to wait up to 12wks for a haircut, now apparently everyone simply MUST cut their own hair and most importantly of all: put their handiwork on Facebook.

Tells you all you need to know about these attention seeking twats.

P.s
I've always trimmed my fringe with varying results (very long sighted) so it's business as usual in my house. 😁

Morgysmum · 21/04/2020 18:12

I had to do my sons. Because he needed a cut before this all kicked off, but when I went to the hairdresser, they were shut, (normally open) so I thought they had shut, due to socal distancing. I decided to cut it myself, as it was going in his eyes. It's great, but not too bad. Know it will last till we get out of lock down.

Twixandtwirl · 21/04/2020 18:19

I swear if I had clippers in the house I would be looking like a female Matt Lucas right now. I have short hair and it seems to be turning into a mullet. I have been on lockdown for 7 weeks and due into work next week. Think I may go full tiger king and with baseball cap and vest.

Middersweekly · 21/04/2020 18:21

My mum decided to cut her fringe today as it was getting in the way of her glasses. It wasn’t a job well done and is now all wonky. She decided to use nail scissors apparently WFT?!
No one has cut their hair in my house. DH is now looking like Jesus, beard included. Oh well! Grin

Purpleartichoke · 21/04/2020 18:21

DH gets a cut every 3 weeks. His hair is long and it is bothering him. Not enough to have me give him a buzz cut yet, but that may happen eventually.

My long hair can just grow and it doesn’t make a real difference.

pollymere · 21/04/2020 18:24

My dh was overdue a haircut. He usually has it cut every five weeks because it grows so quickly. His hair is now blocking the drain after every shower 😂 and is already in Chinese warrior (man bun) territory. He's realised that clipping it, even badly is better than nothing!

Mine is.luckily natural colour and blunt cut so will happily wait

StormBaby · 21/04/2020 18:25

I've been doing the ponytail haircut for years and it looks fine lol

Angelil · 21/04/2020 18:27

Because my husband’s hair grows ludicrously fast and he will look like a 1970s throwback otherwise once all this is over (especially given that hairdressers aren’t scheduled to reopen here in NL until at least June 1st). He normally goes every 3-4 weeks out of sheer necessity.
So he took to it with a brand new pair of clippers and it’s actually come out looking fine. Not perfect but fine.

Patchworksack · 21/04/2020 18:30

My boys go every 4-6 weeks. Older one was done just before lockdown and is now looking a bit shaggy but not keen on me doing it, younger one was already overdue for a cut so I did his with clippers/scissors - I think I did a good job and he disliked it less than going to the barber so might carry on. DH has shaved his own head for years, DD's is long so it's fine, mine is a more messy than usual bob but I can tie it back. It sounds like hairdressers/barbers will be later to reopen because it's impossible to socially distance whilst cutting someone's hair. So it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that DIY haircuts are necessary if your hair is short.

Oscarsdaddy · 21/04/2020 18:32

What a stupid thread, hair grows, hairdressers are closed. It’s hardly rocket science!

Cockadoodledooo · 21/04/2020 18:33

I've cut my previously bra strap length hair so it sits just above my shoulders. It was dry af at the ends from constant washing (usually max every other day/3 times a week, currently can be twice daily). It's now the shortest it can reasonably be and for me still to be able to tie it back for work (NHS).
If it dries more/pisses me off more I'll take the clippers to it.

Abraid2 · 21/04/2020 18:34

Some of us have short, highlighted hair. Mine is very fine and I will shortly have a lot of grown-out, flyaway layers, with dark roots. It isn't quite the look I go for on Zoom meetings. I am using hair mascara at the moment and a host of other products to try and give the illusion of body and colour.

Mylittlepea · 21/04/2020 18:35

Jesus, I’ve only read as far as page two and everyone’s bitching at the OP. It’s lighthearted FFS....!!!!

I for one am crying with laughter at thought of that arm spasm haircut. Any chance of a pic OP???

Imok · 21/04/2020 18:43

Luckily I had mine cut the week before lockdown, so I've got a few weeks left before I will begin to feel desperate. I do my own colour anyway, but TBH, I'm not bothering until just before we go back to work. I'm not going out at the moment and I'm in the middle vulnerable category, so I can't see the point of colouring it when it's only me and dh here to see it. It will be interesting to see how long the grey gets before I colour it all again!

TheWordmeister · 21/04/2020 18:46

I have sons. You can almost see their hair growing.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 21/04/2020 18:49

Because we didn’t all have a haircut in the week before lockdown?

Jack80 · 21/04/2020 18:51

I've dyed mine like normal, I don't like grey roots.
