What are you f*cking good at that you'd never say but are secretly proud of?

For me, it's putting people at ease.

I've not got the best self esteem but by goodness I'm authentic.

What are you good at - even if you'd never let on!

Goodness. There are some talented MNetters out there. I may call upon some of you in future to sort out my Ikea flatpacks, and teach me Excel.

Meanwhile, I too am a people whisperer. It’s a family joke that I can be minding my own business on a quiet park bench, and have a string of strangers sitting down to tell me their life story.

Other talents include holding a shade of colour in my head, and cooking.

But not baking.

TreacherousPissFlap · 29/02/2020 05:44

Sleeping - I can sleep anywhere, any time, any place. When I was younger I longed to have a gift that would make my parents proud and make me loads of money
Turns out it's actually a pretty awesome gift as an adult Grin

FrankieGoesToLiverpool · 29/02/2020 05:46

Ab exercises - 500 reps or 5 min planks don’t faze me!

Hopefulhen · 29/02/2020 05:48

Handwriting. I missed a lot of formal schooling so I did a lot of handwriting practise instead

LoveIsLovely · 29/02/2020 05:50

Another one who has great google skills, there's nothing I can't find.

And singing a very limited number of songs that are exactly in my range.

Elephantonascooter · 29/02/2020 06:11

Pointless impressions. Think minor characters who have one liners in films etc. Also, singing impressions... Quite proud of my Cher! Dh is the only one who gets the full benefit really

sandgrown · 29/02/2020 07:10

Seeing the bright side of almost any situation
Getting people to open up
Spelling and proof reading
Name that tune and remembering lyrics
General knowledge
Languages
Organising social events
Finding bargain holidays to unusual places ( DP calls me Judith Chalmers)
I really envy the people who are organised and have immaculate houses and budget well

Squitface · 29/02/2020 07:11

Giving unsolicited advice based on scant knowledge of the situation. Witty/caustic comments that are hilarious if I get it right and sometimes so, so wrong. Interrupting other people's anecdotes to trump them with my story only to forget what I was talking about. I don't know why I still have any friends.

LucheroTena · 29/02/2020 07:21

Animals love me. Every dog I pass pulls their owner over to say hi. Get odd looks sometimes, like I’ve asked for it Grin.

People open up to me, unprompted. I’m good at calming people.

I have good bullshit radar. Good radar generally. Often I see things before they happen.

Would have made a good script editor. I often think how something might have been improved / made funnier.

sunshineANDsweetpeas · 29/02/2020 07:25

I'm great at reading people and situations which means I'm really good at my job. I find it so easy where as my colleagues sometimes struggle

I'm always good at new hobbies, anything I try I'm usually mediocre at my first attempt, and then can get good if I can be areas to practice.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 29/02/2020 07:26

I'm super organised, especially at work. To the point where it's become a joke! A new client (of about 2 months) made a joke about when talking about some upcoming requirement "Hey Enter do you think perhaps you'd like a colour formatted spreadsheet for this" haha

But I do regularly get told how much easier my projects are to work on, by more junior staff

wanderings · 29/02/2020 07:33

Remembering things from childhood, my memory of what happened then is extremely vivid.

AlphaJura · 29/02/2020 07:35

Reading, spelling and words. I've always just found it really easy. I've also got a very good memory for facts and information. I seem to know a lot about a wide range of subjects, so people often ask me questions about things when they need help.

It's not really something no one else knows but I seem to have a knack for style, fashion and selecting clothes and accessories. People often compliment me on the way I'm dressed, even strangers.

monkeypigsysandy · 29/02/2020 07:36

I can draw really well, don't do it much now as I don't have time but when I do people are often shocked that I'm good

BillywigSting · 29/02/2020 07:38

I'm really good at taking blood.
I can find a nice juicy vein in the most bariatric of patients.

Pancakes /crêpes. Discovered that one on Tuesday! Even the first one turned out pretty well.

monkeypigsysandy · 29/02/2020 07:42

I also have a photographic memory

Bumpsadaisie · 29/02/2020 07:48

Analysing music because I have perfect pitch. I only have to hear it once then I can tell you the main chord progressions/structure of it.

PhilCornwall1 · 29/02/2020 07:55

My memory for remembering numbers, things like phone numbers, car registration plates, account numbers used to be brilliant, pretty much photographic. Annoyingly I had a mini stroke at the end if 2018 and my memory really isn't like it was anymore, so my only real skill I've, Unmm, well forgotten really. Hmm

DingleberryRose · 29/02/2020 07:58

Not getting pregnant. Not even a scare! 35 years and counting! Grin

StarlightLady · 29/02/2020 07:59

I have to take my clothes off to do it!

FairyBatman · 29/02/2020 07:59

Spotting when something isn’t perfectly level like shelves or pictures. No spirit level needed in this house!

Making curry.

Analysing a situation and deciding a course of action. Quite often takes the rest of the team a couple of days to come around to the solution that I suggested after 5 minutes.

Recalling conversations word for word, which is a double edged sword as I can remember every nasty thing ever said to me in detail. Also it freaks people out when you repeat their words back to them.

motortroll · 29/02/2020 08:12

Banana cake
Teaching/mentoring young teens
Volunteering and then panicking that I've taken on too much 🙄

Branster · 29/02/2020 08:15

I have to say I often have this feeling of being a fraud and surprise myself at how good some things I do turn out to be in the end. I do lots of things very, very well but can’t thing of something that I’m openly or secretly proud of them.
Secretly, I know I’m amazing at sex without being into much of the kinky stuff. But that’s not exactly something to be proud of as it’s instinctive, not learned and not a life or practical skill.
Not so secretly, I know I can be really crap at cooking 3-4 times out of 10
Secretly I know I can’t do mental math (not even additions like 58796+679432) yet can solve complicated math questions with a pen and paper so I fraudulently come across as a bit of a mathematical brain.
You guys really are amazing, I’m in awe!

PrednoLeucotropin · 29/02/2020 08:18

Pastry. I'm a terrible cook generally but I've nailed the pastry thing.

Lordfrontpaw · 29/02/2020 08:18

You must have lovely cold hands!
