For me, it's putting people at ease.

I've not got the best self esteem but by goodness I'm authentic.

What are you good at - even if you'd never let on!

Taming feral cats.

YgritteSnow · 29/02/2020 00:34

I'm excellent at picking up non verbal cues and communications and identifying people's real motives or if they're lying to me or trying to manipulate me. I honestly should have been a police officer or social worker. I'm never wrong. Sometimes I worry I am being negative and always looking for the bad so I try to think well of people and ignore the nagging instinct but they always do what knew they would and then I feel frustrated at myself for not listening to myself to begin with.

I'm good at making cakes. Not decorating them or anything fancy but making them with a basic icing job. They always taste amazing.

I'm loyal. If you're my friend there's nothing I won't do you and I will always have your back even if you're being a dick. I'll have your back and then the truth later.

Good with dogs. Can read their body language and know which dogs can be approached and which to leave alone. I've taught my children too. It's very useful.

I'm excellent at remembering faces. Especially good at placing actors. DP is absolutely crap at it. It really irritates me when he tells me who an actor is, and where they are from, get it completely wrong, and then argue that he's right until I have to Google it to prove him wrong.

Dutypaid · 29/02/2020 00:36

I'm very quick at spotting fake people and users.

TheMemoryLingers · 29/02/2020 00:50

Responding calmly to disturbing, aggressive or random statements from others.

Parkmama · 29/02/2020 00:53

@Shannith can you expand on why you find it easy and know you're good at it? I manage lots of people and am always questioning my decisions and ability to balance the needs of the business v their needs as employees!!

  • I can (and do) change handwriting styles nearly every time I write. In school I was the mate you’d get to write your name on all your books, in super-neat print or calligraphy or bubble-font/whatever. I usually don’t mention that it means I’m also quite good at forging...
  • I can ‘block out’ people talking extremely well, or be talking to someone and simultaneously keep track of other people’s conversations (latter was v handy in my old coffee-shop job while running the queue). This only works on people talking, oddly enough - not noise like construction or tv, etc
  • My ‘flight or fight’ impulse is fight, and I like that.
themueslicamel · 29/02/2020 01:04

Flying aeroplanes, I'm a natural, and window shatteringly loud burps.

People just do not believe that level of noise is possible, and look for hidden speakers.

Not very usual is it, I'd rather be good at folding sheets.....

I have never struggled to get a cat to trust me. The dc laugh at me with neighbourhood cats following me. Our timid rescue cats were curled up next to me three hours after arriving.

I can also sprint fast and can run the 100m in 13.5 seconds, not world class but damn fast.
I can pull linking details together, have a photographic memory, good at problem solving

squishedgrapes · 29/02/2020 02:21

Oh yes, and I'm very good with dogs, I don't know why, I just understand them. Even the most protective dogs take to me

squishedgrapes · 29/02/2020 02:24

I'm also a very very good kisser. Apparently

redeyetonowheregood · 29/02/2020 02:35

Fires. When we moved in to our house we had no heating for a few years. I had never set a fire before and was useless at it. 10 years later, I am very good at building fires and coaxing them along if they are almost out.

Meal planning and being organised.

Budgeting and saving. I came to this late in life...many years of poverty means that now I am getting a much better salary I am good at saving and we have holidays, which we never could before.

pollywobble · 29/02/2020 03:05

@18toys me too and I can look at page of text and, without reading it, spot spelling mistakes. The shape of the words will just look wrong

I put this on another thread, being able to tell slight differences in weight.

I was having a friendly argument with my carer over which kindle was lighter. He said they were the same, we ended up getting the scales out, I was right but the difference is 3g.

I feel bad about this but I can get along and make friends with most people but struggle to maintain those friendships!
