No idea what has gone on with American airline flight but it might be worth gently pointing out to the flight radar newbies that a 7700 squawk doesn't necessarily mean you are witnessing (remotely) some technical problem and some ace piloting. Very very sadly possibly the most common reason you see a 7700 in UK airspace is if there is a very ill passenger on board a flight and ATC want the flight "labelled" on their screens so that they can expedite it's handling....

Papergirl1968 · 16/02/2020 16:26

I think it said reasonable costs incurred could be claimed back if they submitted the form that flight crew gave out.
Would have been much cheaper for an airline to hire a few coaches to take all the passengers back to Gatwick, surely.

Papergirl1968 · 16/02/2020 16:26

Sorry, that was to NoGravy Smile

I’ve found you - I felt like a lonely 737 blown off course with nowhere to land Grin

TabbyStar · 16/02/2020 16:51

We just assumed you were in Manchester with everybody else last night Grin

Ohdeariedear · 16/02/2020 16:55

A teeny wee Loganair has just gone over me heading into Edinburgh. It’s hellishly windy now so I wouldn’t fancy it - although it’s come from a Orkney where this would be considered a ‘light breeze’.

BabbleBee · 16/02/2020 16:58

Ah so here you all are...

Weather seems to have settled down here on the S coast. I was looking forward to a windswept beach walk but it’s just been grey and rainy all day.

happycamper11 · 16/02/2020 17:32

I've got the DC involved now, we've been sat at a window seat in a waterside restaurant checking the app then waiting for the planes we see to appear descending in to Edinburgh. Was a great time passer for a bored 7 year old when the service is slow yes you Frankie and Bennys

happycamper11 · 16/02/2020 17:33

@42isthemeaning the wind is the right direction for landing at Edinburgh today.. no cross winds

NumberMonkey · 16/02/2020 17:43

I really am jealous of those if you near flight paths. Our best holiday was to Alicante where the nearest beach was at the end of the runway Grin

These are the skies near me and why I watch Marine Traffic as well Wink

2665 Tenerife to LGW all just got back to LGW after a night in a hotel in Newcastle. Friend was on it and said it was an 'interesting' flight! Confused I hate flying so would have been beside myself!

glenhaggis · 16/02/2020 20:18

Found the thread at last!
I can't see anything interesting happening at the moment.

TabbyStar · 16/02/2020 20:27

I wonder whether the Barcelona people made the journey between there and here for the third time in two days!

hannabarbera · 16/02/2020 20:31

Circling above essex

Don't think anyone's posted this yet, impressive!

tabletray · 16/02/2020 21:00

The circling is 100% normal for Heathrow.

The BA in the Biggin stack and the SAS in Lambourne.

FuckThisWind · 16/02/2020 21:02

I'm near Newcastle Airport. Right on the flight path. Winds aren't so bad here, yet still seeing aircraft circling x 4 times.

NumberMonkey · 16/02/2020 22:29

Wow, that A380 landing is impressive. Even dh was impressed and he normally just eye rolls at my plane spotting antics! I was reading up last night on ‘crabbing’ and I reckon that was a text book demonstration!

*i have no actual knowledge of flying other than googling stuff and the occasional flight as a passenger Wink

glenhaggis · 16/02/2020 22:36

I just showed DS and he just went 'yeah, they do that and then turn' as if he was talking about parking in Tescos' It's safe to say he was undewhelmed.

MamehaSan · 16/02/2020 23:10

That A380! Shock Did it stay on the runway or go onto the grass? (I'm hoping it turned off onto a taxi-way). Bloody hell. I bet the pilots needed to mop their brows and change their underpants after that!

Zog14 · 16/02/2020 23:24

Any of you watching the flights into Dublin, there have been multiple stacks, not sure if that is normal for Dublin or due to weather? I am a fairly new convert to flightradar.

Wherever that Air Tanker is going it's heading against the traffic. What do air tankers do?
