Ok, after one large glass of wine I will ask this very loaded question.... Wendy, what do you think of GOT season 8...? I SO did not like the ending... < sorry everyone, revealed to the a massive geek >

CathyorClaire · 25/01/2020 21:08

Vet thinks it may be some sort of sprain so thankfully no lampshade, Mustress. Cat still very capable of collapsing unpredictably to the floor to lick her arse attentively. #stayclassy

Tartyflette · 25/01/2020 21:09

I hadn’t thought of a Siamese Imaginarycat - they are real characters aren’t they?
Something to consider. Thank you.

GracefulHippo · 25/01/2020 21:09

Oatmeal stuffing Mustress, what do you put in that?

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 25/01/2020 21:09

When one poster said they weren’t getting their news from social media, there was actually a surprise

I'm not on any social media except IG at present. I post here and I read the papers on line. I glance at my IG account about once a fortnight I will not return to twitter ever. I absolutely hate it. So my news comes from reputable sources and I still think what I think. I must be a right thicko eh? Grin

Thug Cat saga - CLICK
And the continuation - CLICK 2

I will now type a lengthy response to the GoT controversial question

GracefulHippo

MustressMhor Oatmeal Stuffing contains the finest oatmeal with butter-braised onions, roasted within the chicken/turkey/whatever.

My long-dead Scottish auntie shared the recipe with me thirty years ago.

You and me both wendy. I cant fathom instagram at all, not even to find pictures of my DDs. Twitter baffles me equally. I can do facebook and I can google newspapers. We only get the printed press at the w/e - DTel and the Sun on Sat, Times and DM on Sunday. This is because I am basically a newspaper junkie due to my working life, and also an attempt at some form of balance between the rags and the allegedly serious press. (and a vague attempt to keep up with popular culture so I know what the DDs are talking about!)

Tartyflette · 25/01/2020 21:13

Leftover haggis would make a fine stuffing for chicken too, Mhor.
We had prawns I bought raw from the market today and cooked with shedloads of garlic and olive oil, plus bread and salad.
—then two doughnuts afterwards—

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 25/01/2020 21:14

Gracefulhippo I have to say...I loved it. I love how everything came together. I loved Arya and her character development and I loved how it all worked out for Jon Snow. However my absolute favourite character and her arc was Sansa and I know many people dislike her, so what do I know?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/01/2020 21:14

@Onprozacandmyhighhorse

I'm afraid I can't take to Olivia Colman at all but love the guy playing Prince Charles. On the episode where he's in Wales. Poor bugger, he had a hell of a time when he was young!

Completely agree. OC was just like another version of herself with helmet hair and pearls. Claire Foy just inhabited thé role in the first 2 series.
Also the actor who played Charles was very sympathetic. I think h3 won an award at the golden globes or something.

Tartyflette · 25/01/2020 21:15

Argh! Strikethrough fail.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/01/2020 21:16

Am I one of the few people on the planet who has never seen Game of Thrones.
Is it worth starting now?

CathyorClaire · 25/01/2020 21:17

Nothing stops cats licking their arses attentively IME.

V. true. Reminds me of that old joke:

Q. Why do dogs lick their arses?

A. Because they can.

TheMustressMhor · 25/01/2020 21:19

Curly I have never watched it either. Never ever.

I have never seen a Harry Potter film.

I do not like films at all, actually.

GoT final season - firstly, it was very rushed as they were told it was the last season quite late. Secondly, obvs there are no books to base the script on... and it shows.

I wouldn't object much to the above if they did a 'good enough' job, but oh no - they really wanted to outdo each episode with something outrageous. Well, they couldn't.

Dany's character was completely destroyed in a few episodes, after building it for years. No wonder Emilia Clarke was so pissed off.

I mean even with the crap job they did, they should have at least had the decency to end it with the scene where Drogon picks up you-know-what and flies away. Everything after that point was a steaming pile of manure.

Look at how after being a massive pop-cultural thing for years it immediately fell into obscurity after it ended.

There were a gazillion plot holes in each episode.

Anyway, what did you think? Grin

CathyorClaire · 25/01/2020 21:20

Am I one of the few people on the planet who has never seen Game of Thrones.

Nope. I have read the books though. And parried shrieks of 'no spoilers' from the dc before whatever series went beyond them.

Am now behind the curve Hmm

Tartyflette · 25/01/2020 21:20

I liked the actor who played Princess Anne, she captured her well, I thought.
It was she who famously told the press to “naff off” when she was a teenager (the Daily Mirror Royal reporter admitted several years later she actual word she used wasn’t ‘naff’ — he had Bowdlerized her! )

GracefulHippo · 25/01/2020 21:20

Mustress, that sound delicious!

Wendy, if Sansa was your favourite I do get it.

I didn’t mind the ending per se, I just didn’t really see how the characters developed to end up where they did. I think they needed a few more episodes.

TheMustressMhor · 25/01/2020 21:22

I've just been imagining Cousin Matthew really returning, with the Robbing Butcher in tow.

It seems a terribly unlikely scenario to me.

although not as unlikely as most of the plot-lines in Downton

GracefulHippo · 25/01/2020 21:25

7worfs, did you see the YouTube clip where Tywin is commenting on their battle plan for the battle of Winterfell?

Sorry everyone else, I am such a geek...

< runs and hides behind the wine bottle as thinks it actually a hiding place after second glass of wine >

GracefulHippo · 25/01/2020 21:26

Mustress, there have been more unlikely scenarios in many series. Am all for cousin Matthew returning with the robbing butcher Grin

TheMustressMhor · 25/01/2020 21:26

Especially as the Robbing Butcher is "in trade" and would not be a suitable companion for Cousin Matthew in any case.

And knowing the RB, he would be a good deal more likely to return to our village with Cousin Matthew, not the other way round.

He's very overbearing.

He would have Cousin Matthew slicing Ayrshire middle and making his square sausage before you could say "was that a West Coast Motors bus that went through the village"?

Dany's character was completely destroyed in a few episodes, after building it for years. No wonder Emilia Clarke was so pissed off.

Yes I do agree with this. But I think Tyrion explained it well to Jon so we could get it and I think it should have gone that way BUT yes many more pointers and cues in the seasons leading up to it. That said, what happened to her dragons and Missandei might have been enough to send her over the edge. It probably would have me.
