A neep is another name for turnip in Scotland, which is called swede in England.

OVienna · 25/01/2020 19:09

Welcome onprozac

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 25/01/2020 19:09

And a swede is a rutabaga in Sweden (I think)

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 25/01/2020 19:11

I mean in the US. A swede/rutabaga is kålrot in Swedish.

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 19:19

Hi onprozac, I know what you mean.

yolofish · 25/01/2020 19:24

evenin all. I have Wine and also a very sore ankle - I broke it over 10 years ago and every now and then it flares up/swells up. Am doing ice packs.

Is everyone ok? (am I allowed to ask that?)

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 25/01/2020 19:27

Lovely new thread. Fingers crossed for positivity throughout. 🤞🏼

Been watching GOT this afternoon. Now there's some queens and royal families to get Shock over.

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 19:28

Myimaginarycathasfleas, yes to HMQ and PP.
In fact your whole post.

I might have a tot of Balvenie shortly.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/01/2020 19:35

I've had a tip that my Alexa will recite the address to the haggis on command. I'm tempted to ask her to see which accent she does it in.Grin

goldierocks · 25/01/2020 19:44

I always thought that turnips and swedes were completely different - what the heck have I been eating?!

I call the white vegetable (about the same size as a large onion) a turnip, and the orange vegetable (about the size of a cantaloupe) a swede - is that wrong???

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 19:49

Turnip is what a swede is known as in Scotland and sometimes Northern England.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/01/2020 19:49

Just catching the end of the Royal House of Windsor on Ch.4.
I forgot what a scandal” the Diana / Martin Bashir interview was, and the Dodi romance.
It would be like Kate running off with a millionaire playboy and being on Instagram on a daily basis, on yachts / beaches etc.
They are actually more conservative now compared to the 80s / 90s

GuytheBeagle · 25/01/2020 19:49

Disaster! the good Chinese takeaway is not answering the phone! Too many orders, NewYear or Pneumonia?

Going to standard place now...

GuytheBeagle · 25/01/2020 19:50

That was tasteless of me. I am actually quite worried about Coronavirus

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/01/2020 19:50

Yes I thought a turnip was white and more bitter than a swede which is yellow and “sweeter”

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 19:51

Yolo sorry about the ankle there.

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 25/01/2020 19:53

I left haggis purchasing to the last minute so there was none in the supermarket ☹️

Not a fan of pink gin but agree the tonic is important. Feverttee is my preference

OVienna · 25/01/2020 19:53

Watching it too. For some reason I was jarred seeing princess Margaret standing there. She seemed to deteriorate rather quickly after. I can't remember when she died.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/01/2020 19:59

@OVienna
Margaret and the Queen Mother died in 2002 ( the golden jubilee year)
I’m going to watch it from the beginning on C4+1

7Worfs · 25/01/2020 20:00

Getting an education on root veg, nice!
Boring evening here, baby teething so I had a heck of a time getting him to sleep, but Calpol helped.

Onprozacandmyhighhorse · 25/01/2020 20:21

Thoroughly enjoyed the haggis and sitting here watching the third series of The Crown. I'm afraid I can't take to Olivia Colman at all but love the guy playing Prince Charles. On the episode where he's in Wales. Poor bugger, he had a hell of a time when he was young!

TheMustressMhor · 25/01/2020 20:23

I have no idea what this thread is about

That makes two of us then. Number thirteen was dragging my soul down - no fault of yolofish who started it.

Just - bah.

Bah.

I met both Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother. I was very young for PM but met the QM in a work capacity. It was a historic event that meant a lot to me and the people involved and having her there felt really special.

7Worfs · 25/01/2020 20:29

Wendy you waited this long to tell us? Shock

Mustress indeed. Onprozac summarized on the previous page - the constant haranguing was exhausting and off-putting to many lurkers. I'm glad there will be no ill will here.

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 20:36

Wendy!
