Just read this on their instagram page.
They plan on becoming private citizens

Good God some of the posts on here are exactly why they are leaving, the nastiness and bitching is horrible

Syncplug · 08/01/2020 19:16

I resented having to leave my job to follow my husband for the sake of our children when his job relocated, let alone this. As long as it's what they genuinely both want then good for them, I am sure they have enough money and can make enough money to sustain themselves; I hope it doesn't alienate Harry from his family though, that would be a real shame, and it's what he actually wanted. That isn't a dig at Meghan, but taking an educated guess that she is the one who wanted to do this (and fair enough the way the press have treated her). Travelling back and forth between 2 countries doesn't seem overly in line with their preaching about saving the planet though.

FruitcakeOfHate · 08/01/2020 19:16

Working towards being financially independent. Which is hilarious given how much harry has inherited over the years!

Working towards! What a fucking insult! Want to keep the poncy titles and taxpayer money rolling in. Think the taxpayer should be able to step back entirely. Spongers!

Edward is in Duke Of Edinburgh in waiting basically. He does a number if charity stuff and helps run the Royal Household, he will be D of E when Phil dies and does his fathers old bit for the Award

AlaskaElfForGin · 08/01/2020 19:16

They're only stepping down as 'senior' royals, not away from the royal family. I don't blame them to be honest with the amount of shit they get from the media and comments like 'Meghan is poison' etc.

Trafalger · 08/01/2020 19:16

They literally cannot win. I feel sorry for the hate they get from the media and onlookers. Everyone calls them spongers and hates on them..... they say they are going to be independent and everyone hates on them!

I just hope they can get some peace in Canada or California and that the press finally leaves them alone.

AraGrand · 08/01/2020 19:16

Well at least we'll see less of Meghan trying to hide lol. You'd swear she was the shy retiring type...

Fraggot · 08/01/2020 19:17

🙄 I don’t think Meg’s “6 million” would go very far, actually. Not with her £100k dresses.

And if they’re so content with their financial lot, why have they engaged in Instagram advertising in the past year?

You’re bonkers if you think they’ll quietly enjoy their private lives.

She’ll have a talk show by 2022.

helberg · 08/01/2020 19:17

Did they jump or were they pushed?

Either way, good. And let the rest of them "step down" as well and "work towards" becoming financially independent.

AraGrand · 08/01/2020 19:17

I'm hating on the phrase 'hating on'.

MrsAmaro · 08/01/2020 19:18

Given the last time I was in Canada the gutter press had completely made up headlines about all the royals (Camilla drunkenly punching the Queen was a particularly memorable one) I can’t imagine it will be any better from a media point of view!

mrscampbellblackagain · 08/01/2020 19:18

Bluntness - they are rich but they are not private jet rich. The lifestyle they have led - I don't think they have the personal funds for.

Let us hope it doesn't get all a bit murky in terms of selling connections. Charming as I am sure they are, not quite sure how the would earn millions a year?!

maddiemookins16mum · 08/01/2020 19:18

Good for them. It makes not one iota difference to my life and if that chap can find some peace (unlike his mother) then why not.

damnthatanxiety · 08/01/2020 19:19

They are a powerful couple who have lived with terrible bullying and intrusion. Harry has always needed to find a role outside of the family. He isn't going to be King. He now does not even have the responsibility of being the 'spare'. He is doing EXACTLY what he should - go independent and live a productive life. What else could he do? He would have become more and more irrelevant as the brother of the future king - that is not a role. Look at Margaret - lost with no focus. Good on them. Why anyone would complain is beyond me.

HaggardMumofToddler · 08/01/2020 19:19

I expecting them to just renounce their titles, I don’t think this will go down well. Will just look like they are having their cake and eating it. After all they spent on frogmore.

Bluntness100 · 08/01/2020 19:19

I can see why people are blaming Meghan, clearly this would not have happened had they not married, but I think thr abuse she's received and the media attention has done exactly what Harry has said, made him think it's the same as his mother being hounded and he won't do it.

As said, I think they will disappear, live as private individuals, do charity work they choose, and appear now and again at big royal events to support Charles or the queen ie maybe Xmas or Remembrance Day.

Any funding will be for security as it runs to millions, is likely to come from Charles or the queen privately and when they feel it's no longer required to the extent it is today,, they will,be financially independent.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 08/01/2020 19:19

Hang on, so we still get to finance them as part of the Royal family but they will be working towards financial independence, meaning making money out of their status?

Cake, having and eating comes to mind.

HaggardMumofToddler · 08/01/2020 19:19

I was*

AraGrand · 08/01/2020 19:19

By 2022 she won't be married.

LochJessMonster · 08/01/2020 19:20

She thought everyone would love her and she could ‘modernise the royals‘, and now is running away because she’s not favourite.

Cam77 · 08/01/2020 19:20

Meh, they lose a bit of cash while gaining a fair bit of freedom. Meanwhile they will still get a shit load of cash off their family who let’s say, “liberated” said cash + a shitload of land from the public, both today and historically over many many centuries. Basically they will no longer have to prance about for the cameras on behalf of Queenie, while still getting to rake it in from daddy and granny and the celebrity of their position. “Financially independent” my arse.
Smart move, but hardly admirable.

Drabarni · 08/01/2020 19:20

I'd imagine that meghan wants to return to her career.
Come at a good time for them, all the lovely care through pregnancy, being funded by us proles, never having to work.
What exactly do they step back from? They don't do anything Grin
I think it was their intention from the start tbh.

Doobydoo · 08/01/2020 19:21

I just hope they are not going to accept tax payers money. I think the way the statement is worded means they will which I think is shit tbh.

mrscampbellblackagain · 08/01/2020 19:21

I think they are doing the right thing for them. They appear not to want to operate within the constraints of the RF and that's fair enough.

Eastie77 · 08/01/2020 19:21

Thank God. When Archie is school aged they'll hopefully be permanently be based in N America and they'll have Granny Doria available to help. It's all for the best, it really seemed as if Harry's mental health was taking a battering here.

I hope once PC takes over he follows through on further streamlining. This ridiculous institution needs to disappear but in the absence of that please can be have as few of them as possible hoovering up tax payers money.
