What were you doing 20 years ago today?

I spent the day sleeping in readiness for working the night shift in the emergency call centre/control room of the water company where I worked. I started work at 6pm and was due to finish 6am on New year's Day (although we were stood down about 3am, so I was able to collect DH from the party he'd gone to).

Went to a fancy dress party in Leeds. We turned car radios on to listen to Big Ben.

Isadora2007 · 31/12/2019 10:12

I was pregnant with my second child and we spent the evening at my (now ex) in laws.

DuckWillow · 31/12/2019 10:13

Living in Somerset at the time...we had friends to stay. The days before I was a parent.
We had some ice cold vodka as I recall which we did shots of at midnight.

These days I am mostly half asleep by 8pm haha.

I was in Cardiff at the millennium stadium watching manic street preachers. We had standing tickets and were right at the front, got squashed a fair bit but it was a brilliant night

HepzibahGreen · 31/12/2019 10:14

E's and whiz

LazyDaisey · 31/12/2019 10:15

Walking in old town Cairo madly in love with someone I thought was The One. It was the year Eid and Christmas were around the same time, so a festive atmosphere was everywhere. God, I can’t believe that was 20 years ago. I feel ancient. Thanks op Grin

thesunwillout · 31/12/2019 10:15

Lol

HepzibahGreen · 31/12/2019 10:15

Joke! It was E's and champagne.Xmas Grin London, party near the river.

MrsPnut · 31/12/2019 10:16

At a house party with some friends in Hertfordshire. DD1 was nearly 3 and with me so I couldn’t go too wild.

BuffaloCauliflower · 31/12/2019 10:17

I was 12, we had a street party

HollyBollyBooBoo · 31/12/2019 10:17

We had the most amazing NYE ever, in London, friends house, party and then right in front of Big Ben for midnight. It was truly the best night.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 31/12/2019 10:17

Went to a party in South London & then in a big group to watch the fireworks from Waterloo Bridge.

PresidentBartlett · 31/12/2019 10:18

At a party on a farm in a barn (not yet 18 so no going out for me)

Jobseeker19 · 31/12/2019 10:18

I was 7 and everywhere was selling silver head bands with "2000" written on them.
Everyone was saying the world was going to end it was scary.
We went to a club called the 'Essex' and they had a big party with balloons that fell from the ceiling.
I accidentally shot a party popper in my stepdads eye.

CrowleysBentley · 31/12/2019 10:19

At home with ex and my almost one year old DS. He'll be 21 on 4th January. I was also just a couple of weeks pregnant with DD but didn't know it yet.

Littleshortcake · 31/12/2019 10:19

I was 21 and in my PGCE year. I spent it at a party but was single and it was a coupled up type of party. I didn't own a mobile phone or anything.. Crown Shock. Still teaching.

Happy New Year everyone.

ItsOurTime · 31/12/2019 10:21

I was a waitress/barmaid in a pub then..it was a lovely pub in the village next to the one I lived in at the time. There was a party and a lock in that night, good times!

MitziK · 31/12/2019 10:23

Dealing with the baby and later watching the fireworks for miles around from my top floor flat window.

ExpletiveFairylighted · 31/12/2019 10:23

I was at a family party, a bit dull really.

CherryPavlova · 31/12/2019 10:25

We were with a large group of friends and all the children staying at a farm study centre in Pembrokeshire. Children collected eggs, fed pigs, milked goats etc whilst we slept in then coastal walks and hot chocolates. In the evening of the 31st we had high tea and film for the children then a meal, quiz, party and sparklers at midnight.

CruCru · 31/12/2019 10:26

I was at a not-exactly-brilliant pub in my hometown with a bunch of friends. My then-boyfriend had announced that he was ill that afternoon and expected me to stay home with him but I’d told him that if I were him, I’d have wanted me to go out and have fun.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 31/12/2019 10:26

I was in London , on Embankment. Met a bunch of Italians and went back to their flat (ditching my drip of a boyfriend in the process!) and woke up on 1 Jan with not a single clue where I was in the whole of London! It was a long walk to find the nearest tube.

peekaboob · 31/12/2019 10:26

Going from pub to pub in my town sweet talking the bouncers to let us in for free, realising once we were in the pubs that it was shit out so went to a friends house party. I snogged someone I'd fancy for ages in the dining room at midnight and can remember the coloured Christmas tree lights out the corner of my eye.
I still see millennium snog around and chat to him occasionally.

notangelinajolie · 31/12/2019 10:27

At a house party with a group of parents from DD's school. We all clubbed together and bought a big firework box. It was spectacular and so were all the other fireworks that lit the sky that night.

DonPablo · 31/12/2019 10:28

A huge teenage house party that became a street party. While we waited for everything to plunge into blackness as Y2K wreaked havoc with dating systems and anything else it could. Ha!
