What were you doing 20 years ago today?

I spent the day sleeping in readiness for working the night shift in the emergency call centre/control room of the water company where I worked. I started work at 6pm and was due to finish 6am on New year's Day (although we were stood down about 3am, so I was able to collect DH from the party he'd gone to).

I was ten so at a huge family party. I remember everyone wearing the ridiculous 2000 glasses and I had a 2000 headband, all silver of course. Probably had my silver crop top, pedal pushers and platform trainers on- thinking I was a member of S Club Grin.

Mostly recall the adults going to check the computer at midnight frantic about the millennium bug.

I went up to London with my boyfriend (now DH) to see the fireworks.

The fireworks were good, but the massive crowds, not being able to move around as the police, for safety reasons, closed off the area we were standing in so it didn't get more crowded and the endless waiting around was awful.

We both also came down with the flu and spent the first week of 2000 in bed.

I like the fact that I can say I saw the London fireworks for the millennium, but neither of us have ever felt the need to do new year in London ever again. Having a glass of wine at home and watching the fireworks on the tv is absolutely fine for us now.
