Famous people in public/Rihanna at Winter wonderland

I saw a story on SM about Rihanna being at Winter wonderland yesterday incognito.

A few of the comments on the article mentioned how they’d seen famous people in shops before, one mentioned Princess Diana in Kensington M&S. So this thread has probably been done a lot before, but I just wondered if you’d seen any famous people in public, better still if you’ve spoken to them.

I’ve not got any particularly great stories myself, we met Princess Anne back when I was at secondary school and I saw 5 after midnight a TGI Fridays in Leicester Square once but that it!

I’ve met loads of famous people through the restaurants I’ve worked in - Bill Bryson, Kate Moss, Alan Rickman and Prince Harry being most notable. Great fun!

JoJoSM2 · 23/12/2019 12:33

I’ve seen a few in London but I never approach them as I don’t suppose they want to get pestered by strangers.

DH served Robin Cook on the deli counter of Safeway in Morningside when he was foreign secretary.

AutumnRose1 · 23/12/2019 12:43

I see lots of actors in London all the time.

In terms of megastars, most recent was Pink. But I wouldn't stop and say anything because I think that would be very annoying.

NoShitHemlock · 23/12/2019 13:19

I saw Tom Hardy's backside not 2months ago! Visiting London and we were outside the Natural History museum. He was with his son and obviously about to take him in.

He still looks like he needs a good bath though Grin

Ohdeariedear · 23/12/2019 13:24

Wasn't expecting a shoutout for Morningside Safeway four posts in! Continuing the Scottish theme, my brother had a chat with Gordon Brown on Aberdour beach one day. And I saw Neil Oliver the tv historian striding along Elie beach, hair a-flowing.

Furrybootsyecomfy · 23/12/2019 13:29

Morningside Safeway!! My ex worked there about then 😃.
I saw JK Rowling there buying soup about a decade ago. Of course it was Waitrose by then (adjusts fur stole).

StoorieHoose · 23/12/2019 13:32

Neil Oliver's sons orthodontics appointments are at the same time as my daughters so we sit in the waiting room at the same time every 8 weeks

I shared a train carriage with menswear come.back from Glastonbury in 1995

Kirsty Young's mum worked at my workplace and regularly saw Kirsty at her mum's desk

Actor who played Billy Elliots dad in the film rubbed Greyfriars Bobby's status nose before us when we were last in Edinburgh

Ohdeariedear · 23/12/2019 13:35

I had a nostalgic stroll past Morningside Safeway (now Waitrose) the other day, haven't been there in years. Delighted to see Houseproud of Morningside still in business too, ha ha!

Chihaha · 23/12/2019 13:39

Joshua jackson and diane Kruger in Paris a few years ago.
Eddie Redmayne in london.
Peter capaldi walking along the street in Glasgow

Didnt speak to any of them as they were just living their lives. Dossnt seem fair to interrupt

Binterested · 23/12/2019 13:39

I got shooed out of Paxton and Whitfield (posh cheese shop in London) a few years ago because Princess Michael of Kent wanted to come in and shop in privacy. So very far from incognito actually Grin

DoraleeRhodes · 23/12/2019 13:41

High Grant and Kaye Winslet waking on the beach (separate occasions). Just passed a casual hello as I’d do with anyone else I passed.

DoraleeRhodes · 23/12/2019 13:41

KurriKawari · 23/12/2019 13:42

Usually on the train and tube, recently I've seen Emma Willis, Alison Hammond, Amber Rudd, Mel C, a sports presenter- probably more but I don't watch much TV so would probably not know. I did like that Amber Rudd got noticed by a few others whilst everyone ignored Mel C!

TheGinGenie · 23/12/2019 13:48

Emma Thompson & Michael Palin in the West End (separate occasions). I didn't go
up to them.

NerrSnerr · 23/12/2019 13:48

I used to work at Chiquitos in Hull. I served John Prescott and the lead singer of the Beautiful South (Not together).

My daughter had swimming lessons with Nick Knowles' son for a while. He turned up once and his ex was clearly pissed off as they were supposed to meet outside and he made a huge song and dance about what a great dad he is.

Butterflyflower1234 · 23/12/2019 13:49

I saw Rod Stewart at Winter Wonderland before, he was so rude when I approached him.

I've served Nigel Ben when I worked at a sports sport. He (jokingly) threated me if I didn't hurry up with serving his wife. It was definitely a joke as I was chatting to the wife and he was hungry.

I saw Matt Lucas on the street in London (had a drunken selfie).

Dec (Ant and Dec) touched my bum when I was 15. I went to watch CD:UK and got in with a fake bus pass and he had to get to the stage and moved me out of the way by my bum.

Also at CD:UK I shook P Diddy's hand.

Think that's all of the ones I actually knew were famous.

weebarra · 23/12/2019 13:54

Love that so many people have got nostalgic about Morningside Safeway. DH worked there through uni. And very hot he looked too in his deli hat. We ate a lot of cheese about them.

Saw a bloke I knew the other day. Cheerfully said hello. He greeted me back and walked on. Then I realised I didn't know him and he was Jason Bradbury off the Gadget Show.

zwellers · 23/12/2019 14:17

In the last week phil spencer at heathrow airport checking in, and high dennis in birmingham symphony Hall. Thought he would be taller! Had to resist asking for selfies as it must be very annoying but they are both on my list!

Ohdeariedear · 23/12/2019 14:47

Struggling to picture Gerard Butler strolling round Auchingarrich clapping the tartan sheep IamMummy - not quite where you’d expect to find him🤣

exexpat · 23/12/2019 14:52

Keanu Reeves wandered through the poolside bar of a resort I was staying at in Australia back in the early 2000s - I think they were shooting one of the Matrix films nearby at the time.
