Famous people in public/Rihanna at Winter wonderland

I saw a story on SM about Rihanna being at Winter wonderland yesterday incognito.

A few of the comments on the article mentioned how they’d seen famous people in shops before, one mentioned Princess Diana in Kensington M&S. So this thread has probably been done a lot before, but I just wondered if you’d seen any famous people in public, better still if you’ve spoken to them.

I’ve not got any particularly great stories myself, we met Princess Anne back when I was at secondary school and I saw 5 after midnight a TGI Fridays in Leicester Square once but that it!

I got shooed out of Paxton and Whitfield (posh cheese shop in London) a few years ago because Princess Michael of Kent wanted to come in and shop in privacy. So very far from incognito actually

As if anyone would actually recognise her, who does she think she is? Hmm she's a Z list royal

exexpat · 23/12/2019 14:55

Oh, and I spotted Chris Martin from Coldplay having breakfast in the restaurant of a hotel in Tokyo once.

Lordfrontpaw · 23/12/2019 14:57

Mick Jagger in my old video rental store (alas no longer there) - yes it really was him!

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 23/12/2019 14:58

Saw Rory McGrath in M&S in Cambridge once - he was on the up escalator, I was coming down. I thought, ooh, I recognise you! and said hello; he did reply, but looked bemused. I was out of the store before I realised who he was Blush

I see Colleen Rooney all the time in my local supermarket.

A few weeks ago I saw her in the supermarket, then later that afternoon I pulled up next to her at a petrol station, then that evening she was sat 3 tables away from us in a restaurant.

She probably has some kind of restraining order now - or more likely she hasn't noticed me 3 times in one day at all Grin

Danny Murphy (ex footballer) in Asda, buying chocolate sundaes at the self service checkout.

CouscousEvaporator · 23/12/2019 15:09

Prince Harry in Reading services in WHSmiths. He was taller than I thought. When I looked around the shop there were casually dressed bodyguards but they didn’t shut the shop or anything.

DD sat next to Ian Botham on the Leeds to Gatwick city hopper flight when she was 14. I expect she bored him to death poor man. Grin

I live in Shoreditch so you see well known people quite regularly.

My neighbour is a fairly famous actor, I’ve been in his flat as my son likes his dog (his flat is huge, mine is teeny). He came home from a skiing holiday today and brought a present round for my son.

I went to the Brits after party this year, backstage glasto and backstage petshop boys at hyde park, so I have met a few famous people that way. I went to the Graham Norton show last year with my then partner, Helena Bonham Carter was on the show and her dress was covered in penis’, she was very nice and chatty.

I once saw Dino Fetcher in the shower at my gym!

Puffinhead · 23/12/2019 15:29

I used to shop at Morningside Safeway too! When I was a student... sorry, no celebrity sightings though.

Oh, yes I do - about 30 years ago I served Stephen Fry when I worked at Ryman’s in Cambridge. He seemed very quiet and unassuming. That’s all I’ve got though.

youngbitter · 23/12/2019 15:44

I live in a wealthy area of North London, quite a few famous people live here and I regularly spot them; James Mcavoy, Kaya Scodelario, Michael Mcintyre, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Ross, Katherine Ryan, Peter Capaldi, John Simm, most of the cast of Eastenders, Some from Game of Thrones, Simon pegg!

Grumpbum123 · 23/12/2019 15:46

Time40 · 23/12/2019 15:48

I saw Patrick Stewart in Huddersfield indoor market some years ago. He was wearing very striking and showy academic robes, and buying cheese from a cheese stall. (I've always wondered about that ... he must have been doing some official academic ceremony, and suddenly been overcome with such a furious lust for half a pound of best Cheshire that he didn't even have time to whip the robes off before he charged into town.)

TheGriffle · 23/12/2019 15:55

Richard and Judy in a Chinese restaurant in London when I was a youngster and one of the Chuckle Brothers in B&Q when I worked on checkouts there.

Yes, seen loads of celebs over the years from working in central London and going out to nice places in my younger days.

A few that stand out...

On our first date DH and I went out for lunch to a fancy restaurant in west London and our table was next to Keith Richards and Mick Jagger’s table. They were having a very boozy lunch Grin.

DH, me and our then young DC were flying from London to Miami and were in a lift at the airport with (and then sitting right next to in the waiting area) Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale. One of their kids was really playing up and she was trying to distract him and calm him down while Gavin just sat there looking at his phone.

On my 40th birthday my sister took me out for lunch and Bob Geldof was at the next table with the guy that is the father of his daughter that died. Just the two of them. They were drinking whiskey and eating enormous hamburgers. Bob seemed really nice, polite and gracious to the waiters etc.

My favourite and probably least glamorous one, though, was bumping (literally) into Maureen Lipman coming out of a cafe as I was rushing in chasing my wild toddler. I apologised and she smiled and said ‘what an absolutely beautiful child!’ about my little toerag of a son Grin.

Cocolapew · 23/12/2019 16:14

Walking down a street in Dublin years ago I saw someone coming towards that I thought I knew, he smiled and said hello (I was staring and trying to place where I knew him from) so I said it back. Asked my then boyfriend who it was and he said Mike Scott from The Waterboys. I must have looked a right tit.

peanutdust · 23/12/2019 16:17

Tana433 · 23/12/2019 16:36

My dad is a tour guide at Old Trafford and has taken around most of the cast of Corrie and some from Hollyoaks. Problem is he doesnt recognise any of them so is definitely not starstruck by any means. Burt Baccarach is the only celeb who has impressed him, he was seriously in awe!
