Famous people in public/Rihanna at Winter wonderland

I saw a story on SM about Rihanna being at Winter wonderland yesterday incognito.

A few of the comments on the article mentioned how they’d seen famous people in shops before, one mentioned Princess Diana in Kensington M&S. So this thread has probably been done a lot before, but I just wondered if you’d seen any famous people in public, better still if you’ve spoken to them.

I’ve not got any particularly great stories myself, we met Princess Anne back when I was at secondary school and I saw 5 after midnight a TGI Fridays in Leicester Square once but that it!

@PosiePie Please tell me more about meeting Sarah Lancashire - she's my ultimate girl crush and I've always hoped she'd be really nice in real life Xmas Grin

Mine are mostly in London. Used to be neighbours with Felicity Kendal who was not at all friendly. Also in the neighbourhood was the original Schweppes “Sch.... you know who” actor William Franklin who rode around on his bike and was cheerful and friendly. Also, same area, Clive Dunn from Dad’s army. Jilly Cooper was a menace with her out of control dogs on the common.
Bruce Forsyth held a door for me in Harrods once.
Sat opposite Gary Barlow at a hotel swimming pool in Italy last summer, he was low key and unassuming.
Sharon Maughan (wife of Trevor Eve) goes to the same hairdresser as me and I’ve chatted to her once or twice. Years ago (1970s) I used to see Lulu at a hairdresser having her hair done by a junior stylist called John Frieda who did my hair once too when my girl was away.... the rest is history. Also used to see Valerie Singleton there.

Cara Toynton was once on the same flight as us and stood next to us at the baggage carousel.
DH saw Ronnie Corbett passing Fortnums one day and he was walking along beaming saying hello to everyone!
Stayed in the same hotel in France as Lee Mack and his family. I didn’t meet him properly but my DH chatted cars to him and he seemed nice and normal.
DS made friends with a boy on holiday and wanted to go to his villa to play. His father was Norman Pace (Hale and Pace) lovely normal family, couldn’t get over how people would come up and ask for autographs (this was early 1990s) so I always leave celebs alone.
We sat on the next table to Noel Edmonds in a restaurant in Battersea. Saw Liz Hurley at Olympia and Terry Wogan on a plane. Simon Curtis at the theatre with his kids. Justin Webb in a restaurant in Angel.
DD1 knows Ralph Spall, DD2’s been friends since nursery with a musician from Everything Everything and DD3 has uni friend from Jungle.
I generally don’t know who people are so my husband often has to point them out to me but over the years I’m surprised how many I’ve seen.

raspberrymolakoff · 24/12/2019 07:40

Actually it was Richard Curtis at the theatre not Simon!

VivaLeBeaver · 24/12/2019 07:46

@myusernamewastakenbyme please say they were all crabbing in Walberswick! 😁

Hoppinggreen · 24/12/2019 08:31

I had an argument with Gregg Wallace. I told him ( in my best mum voice) not to speak to me like that!
His entourage gave an audible gasp and he looked absolutely nonplussed that someone had dared to answer back.

Gatchabread Sunita Sarkers Dad used to be my GP

Poppiesway1 · 24/12/2019 08:37

@VivaLeBeaver @myusernamewastakenbyme They have a second home there, and have lots of of visiting friends. Quite a few “famous” people live there which makes the village fetes and Christmas Day swim an event to watch 🤣

Lordfrontpaw · 24/12/2019 08:39

@Hoppinggreen - you have to tell us what the argument was about!

Poppiesway1 · 24/12/2019 08:41

Sat in cinema watching Wall-E only handful of people in there.. along with Gordon Brown and his family (they were on holiday in Suffolk so was a tiny independent cinema not a big chain cinema so a bit odd to see him in there)

Binterested · 24/12/2019 08:45

Laughing at Tilly telling Paul McCartney not to look at the holes in her tights Grin

Hoppinggreen · 24/12/2019 09:20

Lord not very exciting I’m afraid
I was at an event and my friend wanted a photo with him, it was a photo op thing so he was doing a meet and greet, we didn’t ambush him or anything. I was taking the photo and as I stepped back to take it ( carefully as a lady had put a bag down on the floor that I was aware of) he shouted “ oi, you are going to stand on that bag” I replied politely that it was ok as I knew it was there and I wasn’t going to stand on it. He then shouted that I needed to be more careful and watch what I was doing ( very rudely) so that’s when I told him not to speak to me like that
Sorry it’s not more interesting

Lordfrontpaw · 24/12/2019 09:27

Haha - better a barraboy rant than ‘I say Marcus, this lady asserts that the Beltsville Small White is a superior bird to the Bourbon Red! What utter tosh...’

Aragog · 24/12/2019 09:28

DD's favourite one was Tom Felton (aka Draco Malloy) sitting behind us outside a bar in Venice Beach. She was about 14 at the time and is a huge HP fan. She was trying to take pretend selfies with him in the background. :)

Bless him he made her day.

He'd been approached by two young women who kept going over to him so he drank up quick and went inside to pay etc. As he went in they finally left. As he came out he gave dd a wave and a smile, picked up his skateboard and did some fancy turn and waved to her again. Seemed to appreciate that we'd actually left him be when he was having a quiet drink.

I live in Dublin and have seen lots of Irish celebs. A few would have kids in the same montessori/ school/after school activities as me.
Frequently spot them on flights as Aer Lingus premier cabin is quite small and there only is economy and premier.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/12/2019 09:58

Oh, and the Duchess of Cambridge with the kids on a Norfolk beach

BearSoFair · 24/12/2019 10:40

David Miliband and his family squashed onto an airport shuttle with us in 2010, he was nice and very apologetic that his sons were getting overexcited...they were lovely boys, not bothering us at all!

BearSoFair · 24/12/2019 11:09

Ooh I just remembered that I saw Kit Harrington at Stansted last year, waiting to pick up his bag. Obviously trying to keep his head down and no one approached, just lots of excited whispering when he left Grin

peaceanddove · 24/12/2019 11:27

Ben Elton once eyed me up in a coffee shop in Soho.

Portulaca · 24/12/2019 11:32

I worked in a restaurant in an area where quite a lot of actors live. Used to see them regularly just dropping in for a drink or meal with friends.

My late dad belonged to a golf club & regularly played golf with a well known actor & also husband of a well known tv actress.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/12/2019 11:36

DH once had a piss next to Paul Weller at a gig.

I've seen Nick Berry in a service station, and Ricky Tomlinson, Brooke Vincent, Timothy West and Prunella Scales on trains. I've met other celebs but mainly where you would expect to meet them - like David Beckham at a football match, and Elton John at a footie match also (back in his Watford days).

halocompanach · 24/12/2019 14:20

Ben Elton once eyed me up in a coffee shop in Soho.

Was it a rainy day?

myusernamewastakenbyme · 24/12/2019 20:40

@VivaLeBeaver yes they were all crabbing...it was a beautiful summers day and everybody there was crabbing too.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 24/12/2019 20:42

I've seen loads but most recently-about 15 mins ago-sat next to Right Said Fred in an Italian restaurant Crown Smile
