...what their favourite Christmas present was, that they received as a child?
I asked mine this evening after reading a couple of threads from people who are struggling with Christmas.
Dd1 27 said her most favourite presents was mousetrap.
Dd2 22 said her favourite gift was a nail dryer shaped like a dog.
Neither of these were expensive and they actually can't remember most of their "main gifts".
So I was just wondering what was your child's favourite gift?

my little pony castle and show stable and one where it was a pool with a rainbow going to a cloud where u pressed a pump button and it "rained"

Stupiddriver1 · 26/11/2019 21:04

Just asked 18yo dd and she can't remember any. Hmm

So all the stuff I went to major efforts to get was obviously worth it.

foxyknoxy30 · 26/11/2019 21:04

Mine was a box of crayola crayons that had so many different colours probably about 50 in a giant crayon shaped box loved it

Mine was a torch which had coloured filters on it which you could turn to make the light different colours. And a Tippy Tumble doll. And a Sindy horse and doll.
Not all in the same year, obviously.
Must ask the adult dcs for theirs....

Zzz1234 · 26/11/2019 21:07

Mine was a candle making when I was 9/10. My parents then moved house and ‘lost’ it. They later told me it was because it was so messy. I still love candles

MardiBras · 26/11/2019 21:08

JeSuisPrest I also loved my post office set with stamps and envelopes when I was little. Smile

Then it was anything horsey. My favourite being Britains' toy model horses and riders, with little plastic saddles and elastic bands for reins.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 26/11/2019 21:10

Wrinkles.

Still lives on my bed

Good point OP!

When I was really little, a postman pat knitted doll that my gran made. Carried it everywhere under my arm (really tightly so I wouldn't lose it).. Ended up with a neck about 3ft long Grin

I also loved trolls, tamigotchis and a bright yellow game boy (1st gen) which was a joint gift for me and my bro.

I loved all my main gifts at the time, usually secondhand bikes, casio keyboards etc but my mum was a single parent on a nurses wage so we never got anything ott. We knew not to ask too much and often shared the 'big' gifts. We got one main present and a couple of small things, not the piles and piles you see kids with today. I don't really remember feeling left out etc.

As an adult? The surprise kitchen aid when I was pregnant. Burst into tears and everything.

As a kid, My little pony's paradise estate. I was such a pest to my older sister as she wasn't building it fast enough for me!

I was very put out when Santa brought my younger sister the polly pocket super set. I was into Pollys first! (But was about 10) It was obviously big enough to both play together and our mum has kept it. Our two little daughters love playing with them together and it melts my heart every time. Though I've just made the mistake of checking their value on eBay....

Mama1980 · 26/11/2019 21:14

I had that post office too Smile
My best present was a She-Ra doll, complete with little plastic sword, I played with her for years and still have her sitting on my sideboard.

Tabitha005 · 26/11/2019 21:14

I used to love getting CDs (and prior to that vinyl albums) for Christmas - it made me feel very grown up!

Zzz1234 · 26/11/2019 21:15

foaming my brother had one, he’s 34 and its still at my mums so his kids can’t get it.

CaptainCallisto · 26/11/2019 21:16

Christmas 1994 I got a Take That calendar. I was so excited because there was a picture of Mark Owen in there without a shirt on Grin

Second best was the Chilly 99 snowman toy from Tesco. I ended up getting the new one each year and they're all still lined up on my old bed at my parents' house. DS2 always heads straight up to hug them all when we stay over Smile

minniemoll · 26/11/2019 21:20

Mine was a stereo with a record player and twin cassettes when I was about 14 - so I could edit the top 40 which I taped every week to cut out the presenter's voice. Lots of songs ended very abruptly but I listened to those tapes over and over. Happy days!

MsChatterbox · 26/11/2019 21:20

My favourite was baby choo choo doll with clothes and accessories

MidnightMystery · 26/11/2019 21:21

This springs to mind!

A board game, which I’m sure was called ‘I want to bite your finger’.
Entertained my sisters and I for years!

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/11/2019 21:22

Mine was definitely the playmobil zoo my grandma bought me circa 1995

FiveShelties · 26/11/2019 21:23

My best ever Christmas present was my first Sheltie - a gorgeous sable and white Sheltie puppy.Grin

GabsAlot · 26/11/2019 21:24

My sony walkman prob-but i did love all the boardgames downfall was a fave

SpaceCadet4000 · 26/11/2019 21:24

Either my Furby or Baby Born. I'm a true child of the 90's!

TheFairyCaravan · 26/11/2019 21:24

I just text DS2 (22) and he replied "Hmmm I dunno, there's loads. Probably all the Lego". He was Lego mad and as his birthday is Christmas Eve he'd get quite a bit.

DS1 would probably say one of the PlayStations he got over the years.

When I was little I used to love getting books. My Nan used to say "as long as Fairy gets some new pyjamas and masses of books, she's happy." I'm 49 soon and not a lot has changed, tbh.

Memoriesmemories · 26/11/2019 21:25

I remember at the age of approx 5 receiving a toy from the TV series The Get Along Gang and it was the sheep character. She had a yellow dress on and little rollerskates. Don't know if any of you remember this being on the TV in the mid 80s. I loved that toy!

ActualHornist · 26/11/2019 21:26

I genuinely can’t remember anything I got for Christmas Confused I mean, logically I know I got cds as a teen, I know I got toys and games - but I can’t pinpoint them as gifts, Christmas or otherwise.

I can’t even remember what I got last Christmas.
