...what their favourite Christmas present was, that they received as a child?
I asked mine this evening after reading a couple of threads from people who are struggling with Christmas.
Dd1 27 said her most favourite presents was mousetrap.
Dd2 22 said her favourite gift was a nail dryer shaped like a dog.
Neither of these were expensive and they actually can't remember most of their "main gifts".
So I was just wondering what was your child's favourite gift?

Inspired by this thread OP I asked my kids a. Favourite animated film b. Saddest film and c. Most uplifting film replies were Bambi, boy in striped pyjamas and it's a wonderful life and up, up and up so feeling all nostalgic ordered the dvds.

Middle son has got back to me from USA and said how excited he was getting a turtle figure (1990) and anything for his subbuteo collection. In other words the quite small things!
I’ve kept a series of notebooks of my Christmas shopping between 1982 and 2005 it reads like a social history of toys!

mon15 · 28/11/2019 09:14

Omg cricket doll!! That was the stuff of nightmares. I actually still have a doll phobia to this day

Getoffmylilo · 28/11/2019 09:20

Walkman

cannockcandy · 28/11/2019 10:11

@BobbinThreadbare123 I had the post office set too.
Also had a conveyor belt and till so I could play shops.
My granddad always got me Polly Pockets

My best present ever was a pair of New Rock boots which were super expensive (we were pretty poor) and I knew my mum had saved all year for them. I actually cried my eyes out when I opened the box.
On my 21st birthday my mum gave me a scrapbook she had spent a year making of me from when I was a baby all the way up till a few weeks before she gave me it. Again I cried cause it was so touching. She had also put our family tree in the back and old photos of family members.

Asked older teen yesterday. The presents he named were the last two Christmas presents! I pressed harder to see what he remembers from his childhood, and he couldn’t name one present!

Teagoanngoanngoann · 28/11/2019 10:54

Mine was a snoopy watch which was put in my stocking. We didnt have much money and i hadnt asked for it. It had a powder blue strap and snoopys hands moved round and pointed to the correct time. It was my first ever watch and i remember being so thrilled with it. When i read this thread it was the first gift that popped into my head.

catanddogmake6 · 28/11/2019 11:04

@Memoriesmemories, my sister had Woolma. All the family have vivid memories of her taking it to church and the roller skates repeatedly falling off, my sister refusing to let them be put away and generally a lot of muffled hissing and glaring from the vicar. Churches were not very child friendly back then.

TM1979 · 28/11/2019 15:23

My dd18 says she can’t remember stuff she got...I’m a bit gutted about that!

Stillinbedat10am · 28/11/2019 18:55

My Magical Theatre! It has working spotlights and footlights and the main characters were magnetic and controlled by wands that you inserted under the stage. You could colour in the scenery and the other characters yourself and the curtains opened and closed. I spotted it in Tesco when we were in town for the Christmas lights switch on that year and it was the only one left on the shelf so my gran had to distract me whilst my grandad bought it and hid it in the boot of the car.

I had hours of fun with it and it's still up in the loft as I can't quite bring myself to get rid of it.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 28/11/2019 21:07

I remember a full size keyboard (which I still have, the demo is so late 80s/early 90s), a cd player which was a big thing,.it was cassette and records till then. I remember this doll which had make up you could 'put on' with water. Also remember a case that had pretend make up and make your own perfume in it. I loved the getalong gang, wanted a Dotty Dog with rollerskates but never got it!

Knittingnanny · 28/11/2019 23:04

Youngest aged 28 has just replied claiming he can’t remember but loved his game boy which I think was actually a birthday present

notangelinajolie · 29/11/2019 03:34

I remember a lot of my childhood Christmas presents. I didn't have many toys so each gift was special unlike my kids who can't remember what I bought them last year never mind when they were 7.

My uncle Dick bought me Lonely this Christmas by Mud one year Smile

I remember getting a desk and a blackboard from my Grandma. I thought all my Christmases had come at once. My family were not ones for lavish presents and I mainly got books and talcum powder Hmm so this was an epic present beyond my wildest dreams. I played school for years.

Another year was Tiny Tears and a pram. My Grandma bought me that too - my mum wastn't to impressed because against I was 10 and she thought I was too old. I played with her all the time, we were inseperable. A year later I passed my 11 plus and in preparation for Grammar School, I remember selling the pram for £17.50 and with the money buying a calculator. I can't remember what happened to Tiny Tears. I truly loved her like a real baby and even now I remember all I ever wanted was to be a mum.

She was the best dressed doll ever because my Grandma was a tailoress for the rich ladies in town and she would make amazing lace and silk dresses for her from remnants bag.

One year I got Sindy. My mum wouldn't let me have Barbie. Another year I got action Woman.

One of my favourites was a Post Office and I used to play that with my Grandpa.

Happy days Smile
