...what their favourite Christmas present was, that they received as a child?
I asked mine this evening after reading a couple of threads from people who are struggling with Christmas.
Dd1 27 said her most favourite presents was mousetrap.
Dd2 22 said her favourite gift was a nail dryer shaped like a dog.
Neither of these were expensive and they actually can't remember most of their "main gifts".
So I was just wondering what was your child's favourite gift?

I think my favourite was the Color Me Badd cd. I’d been asking my parents for it for ages, but they wouldn’t get it for me, so my aunt got it for me instead! Wasn’t massively expensive, I think about £7 at the time from HMV. Tbh, it’s about the only present I remember from my childhood so it obviously made a lasting impression!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/11/2019 21:39

@hauntedvagina my sister had one of those. I loved spike!

Gogreen · 26/11/2019 21:40

My bike. I spent hours on it. And I remember my mum had hidden it behind the curtains in her room so in the morning, after I opened my stocking on her bed, she asked me to go open the curtains and there it was! Grin

The computer I got from my grandpa was another contender. I think I was about 11? It was in the era of Windows 3.1 and I remember it came with the original Doom game on it, which my uncle was very excited about and it was commandeered for an hour or two while he played it Grin

PrincessHoneysuckle · 26/11/2019 21:42

@Lovemusic33 my younger brother had that!

chugga · 26/11/2019 21:42

A barbie house, I just tried to look for it on google but I can't find it. I wish I never got rid of it now😭 was my favourite gift by far and I still think of it often now!

Celebelly · 26/11/2019 21:43

Oh and I also had that post office! Loved it. I don't remember receiving it but I sure remember playing with it!

raspberryk · 26/11/2019 21:43

I'm an adult child Grin I got horse riding lessons for Christmas and was my favourite gift ever. Poor daddy- that gift kept on giving as I went for 10 years in the end.
I don't remember any others. Ever.

Memoriesmemories · 26/11/2019 21:45

@BikeRunSki I had one of those! Was fab!

Loveislandaddict · 26/11/2019 21:45

Tiny Tears (70s version)

NannyPear · 26/11/2019 21:45

Scary Spice doll figure always sticks in my mind for some reason!

Doggodogington · 26/11/2019 21:46

I had a large barbie house too, with a roof terrace. No stairs but a lift on the outside, I didn’t play with it much.
My favourites were a fashion wheel, Rupert the Bear annuals, Oh Penny campervan (my absolute favourite) and a baby boy doll complete with winky 😂

Memoriesmemories · 26/11/2019 21:47

I remember my sister (who is a bit younger than me) having a game called Dream Phone in the 90s.
Does anyone remember the Fashion Wheel? I think thats the name of it. Ypu used to turn it around and create pictures of different outfits on it. Was great!

FenellaMaxwell · 26/11/2019 21:52

Ghost busters roller skates, and the tape of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Artesia · 26/11/2019 21:53

@Memoriesmemories- I got the Getalonggang sheep too! Had totally forgotten about it til you mentioned it!

elQuintoConyo · 26/11/2019 21:56

Pink Tandy cassette player, I was 12.
Spinning top, age 6. When it spun really fast it hummed, and it had Mr Men on it which were my favourite.
Lockable safe box, red. I still have it with both it's keys, I was around 13. Very useful at boarding school!
Bugs bunny-shaped hot water bottle - big thing he was, I loved him.
Nancy Nurse outfit from Twinkle magazine, I must've been 6 or 7 yo. (We're talking 1982 ish)
Scalectrix age 9 - AWESOME! (Scalextric?)
My Little Pony Grooming Parlour, I still have it and 8yo DS often plays with it.

What lovely memories Smile

Yolanda there's so much love for your toy horse shining though your post, it brought a happy tear to my eye!

pallisers · 26/11/2019 21:57

We got a new fridge just before christmas when ds was about 4, and his sisters 2 and 1. We turned the box into a puppet theatre - they loved that thing.

When they were age 16, 17 and 20, I put a book together with excerpts from the diary I had kept on my computer since the eldest was 4 months old - mostly funny stories about them. I put in a few photos too and got it printed and bound nicely. That was a HUGE hit.

I'll ask them tonight though - great question.

Wincarnis · 26/11/2019 21:57

I remember as a child getting a Sindy doll and outfits and being thrilled to bits.

As a young teenager I was very happy to receive a small portable radio (known as a tranny in those far off non pc days)
As for games, big hits in our house were Frustration (with a pop-o-matic dice that used to get stuck) Buccaneer and Cluedo

wafflyversatile · 26/11/2019 21:58

A Mattel talking head doll. It was amazing. Amazingly creepy. It had a massive massive head and teeny tiny body. You would pull the body down on a string and it would wind back up to head again while saying things.

My sisters said things like:

You're pretty
I can fit in your pocket ah ha.
I'm so happy.

Things my one said:

Here comes my body!
That's quite a stretch!
I'm losing my head over you!
Whoops. I lost my head for a moment!

When we dug it out 40 years later it was as croaky as an 800 year old witch and even creepier than before.

Mrsmadevans · 26/11/2019 21:58

Mine was a portable cassette player and the Osmonds tape circa 1972.
My DD2 was a Flip camera & Baby born, DH was an airgun and DD1 was a Barbie Horse .

ANewHope18 · 26/11/2019 22:01
