Have you ever asked your now adult children...

...what their favourite Christmas present was, that they received as a child?
I asked mine this evening after reading a couple of threads from people who are struggling with Christmas.
Dd1 27 said her most favourite presents was mousetrap.
Dd2 22 said her favourite gift was a nail dryer shaped like a dog.
Neither of these were expensive and they actually can't remember most of their "main gifts".
So I was just wondering what was your child's favourite gift?

looking at it brings back so many happy memories. The same year my DB got a Spectrum computer and played a lot. I was 6 - best Xmas ever!

Mine was a fisherprice dolls house. I still have it in my mum’s attic so I can clean it up and give it to DD in a couple of years.

NoProblem123 · 26/11/2019 22:06

Memories - wasn’t there a moose as part of the get along gang ??

My fav was the My Little Pony Lullaby Nursery complete with pink foal (can’t remember her name aghh !)
A close second was the Grooming Parlour complete with cat in wicker saddle basket.

Never got the Dream Stables though. Yet.

soupforbrains · 26/11/2019 22:07

@PristineCondition OH MY GOD you had Dream Phone???!!! Can I be your best friend pleeeeeaaaase can I come round and play with it?! I soooo desperately wanted that! (My parents quite rightly considered it to be drivel so I never got it)

HippyChickMama · 26/11/2019 22:08

I got a Furby the year they came out and everyone wanted one. I took that thing everywhere with me, still have it in my loft.
I also was mad on puppy in your pocket and my little pony.

Crazybunnylady123 · 26/11/2019 22:11

@HippyChickMama
Yes! I saw it in a toy master catalogue and had a little omg! to myself.
DD has a few of my ponies, not all off them as there are like 50 of them!

DramaAlpaca · 26/11/2019 22:13

Youreterriblemuriel99, that reminds me of the Barbie Country Camper I got sometime back in the 70s, one of my best ever presents.

The other one that springs to mind another Christmas was a Girls' World, the original version of the styling head. I was the envy of all my friends.

I must ask my adult DC when I see them what their favourites were.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/11/2019 22:15

My friend had a fashion wheel. It was completely lost on me!

Mucky1 · 26/11/2019 22:18

Mine was a Phillips fold up bike. I desperately wanted it no other bike would do, it had to be the fold up one. Not sure why as we didn't have a car or the need to transport it anywhere. My parents weren't well off and in the 80s and I was told sorry no it's far to expensive and then there it was!!! Also a barbie wedding dress for my doll white with gold stars. Mum used to wrap us up tins of rice pudding or coke because we didn't usually have them and they were treats for a bit of a joke.

nameymcnamechangeagain · 26/11/2019 22:20

@BobbinThreadbare123 I don’t remember getting it but I had lots of oh penny stuff and loved it! The treehouse especially.

Anyone remember quints? I had loads of those too.

I barely remember anything I received as gifts. I loved drawing and trolls and the one thing I actually specifically getting for Christmas was a “magic paintbrush set” it was a blue oval plastic case with paints set inside it and paintbrush that you put water in, I thought it was amazing!

frami · 26/11/2019 22:21

According to DS2 his best ever present was a toy kitchen.
He's now a Chef!

nameymcnamechangeagain · 26/11/2019 22:22

I also had a post office although different from the one pictured, you opened it like a briefcase and then pulled two sides out with the window in middle? Had the same thing that was blue and yellow in colour but can’t remember what it was supposed to be!

Wildorchidz · 26/11/2019 22:22

Spirograph.
Etch a Sketch.
Still have both !
Pippa dolls
A clockwork train set

winewolfhowls · 26/11/2019 22:24

A goblin hand puppet sort of thing thing called a boglin

My little pony stable

My bike when I was ten that I still have now

Some lego technic that I can remember constructing while listening to a sheryl crow CD.

larry55 · 26/11/2019 22:25

The only Christmas present I remember having as a child (I was born in 1952) was a dolls house made from 4 cardboard boxes and then decorated by my mum.

I remember best the year my dB got a large rocking horse - which he still has and has had renovated and the year another got a tricycle which he couldn’t use until March as we were out on Christmas Day and on Boxing Day it began to snow and it didn’t thaw until March. 1963

Somuchroom · 26/11/2019 22:25

@Thestral wow! I had one of those Cadbury machines!

I’m loving this thread, it’s bringing back some lovely memories.

My favourite Christmas present was “the super sticker factory” I made stickers for weeks. I would cut up the Argos catalogue and make stickers of kitchen appliances.

Monkey500 · 26/11/2019 22:26

@wafflyversatile my friend Carol had one of those dolls, here comes my body was hilarious!

Madcats · 26/11/2019 22:29

Oh I really wanted Mousetrap as a kid. I was gutted that it is/was no longer made when DD was a suitable age.

We probably won't be asked this year because she is now 12, but DD's most requested gift each year was a large cardboard box. Combined with wheels like this it could be transformed into a car/trolley/plane... www.amazon.co.uk/Rolobox-Reuseable-Wheel-Kit-Boxes/dp/B003VFLRIA?tag=mumsnetforu03-21.

DinoGreen · 26/11/2019 22:30

Another one who bloody loved that Post Office! Another favourite was a cardboard play theatre set I had, can’t remember the brand but I loved it, you could set up all sorts of different scenes.

As a slightly older child, my favourite present I remember getting was a cassette Walkman from my grandma - my sister and I both got one. We were thrilled! I think it came with a single album as well each - my sister had Spice Girls and I had Steps. Then we used our double cassette player to tape a copy of each other’s onto a blank cassette. Those were the early days of piracy!

Monkey500 · 26/11/2019 22:30

My earliest request from Santa was Ting a Ling Trudie, I actually got Hello Dottie who was amazing! (And still lives in the loft even though she is now very creepy) Grin
