...what their favourite Christmas present was, that they received as a child?
I asked mine this evening after reading a couple of threads from people who are struggling with Christmas.
Dd1 27 said her most favourite presents was mousetrap.
Dd2 22 said her favourite gift was a nail dryer shaped like a dog.
Neither of these were expensive and they actually can't remember most of their "main gifts".
So I was just wondering what was your child's favourite gift?

Woolma the Lamb was her name!

AlexaAmbidextra · 26/11/2019 21:27

This was mine. Christmas 1961. I was thrilled to bits with it. Funnily enough I became a nurse.

One year my auntie got me one of those makeup cases with a combination lock. I wasn't too bothered about the makeup brushes and stuff in it but I put all my christmas chocolate in it. Its uses changed over the years but I have 3 brothers and it's always been brilliant. I keep medication locked up in it now. What I really liked about it as well was having to do something with a small screwdriver to take the lock out and change the combo from 000, I think if I'd have been given an old PC and a book telling me how to take it apart and reassemble again I'd have died of joy. PCs were beyond our remit 20 years ago though, even busted ones!!

DS1(24) said Lego hogwarts castle (hours of fun helping him put that together!) and DS2(22) said dartboard/(he was 10 when he got it and it still has pride of place in our kitchen and is well loved and used. DS3(18) is still thinking so clearly I failed there!

A big stuffed horse, big enough to sit on and ride. His legs were stretched out fore and aft so his belly was actually on the floor. He was a beautiful bay with a white blaze and fluffy white socks around his hooves. He had a removeable saddle & bridle so I could untack him after a ride, and a plastic voicebox thing in his head so he could neigh and whinny and make clipclop noises when I patted his nose. His name was Jock and he was the closest I would ever get to owning a horse.

He arrived on Christmas morning 1983 and I loved him. Even when the zip broke on his voicebox pouch and he developed a nasty bulge under his chin. Even when his tack fell apart and had to be mended with gaffer tape. I made him rosettes when we triumphed at gymkhanas. I made him a rug for the winter when he was turned out at night in the chilly bedroom field. In my role as farrier I made him foil shoes and stuck them on with sellotape. We had some adventures together galloping the moors.

No other christmas present comes close in my memory.

Lovemusic33 · 26/11/2019 21:30

I remember a few presents that I really loved.

Polly pocket money box (had slots for different coins in including a space for a £2 coin).

Keepers pony.

Red chimney pot play set (I must have been 4 years old, probably my best gift and was a main gift).

Chad valley hungry hippo’s game but was dogs not hippos.

Stephminx · 26/11/2019 21:32

@FoamingAtTheUterus

I got a wrinkled too (the one in the purple flowered dress).

May have influenced my decision to become a mad basset hound owner...

Milkstick · 26/11/2019 21:32

Foxy, i had the crayola thing too, kind of tiered in a case. Could never decide whether I liked maroon or midnight blue the best. I was a fan of spring green too.

MB25 · 26/11/2019 21:32

My cabbage patch doll from Santa. Always loved my random goodies in my stocking. 🎅😊

Andypromqueen · 26/11/2019 21:34

A Speak n spell
And a pink cassette recorder - i still remember it costing £20 from the poundstretcher in our local precinct. I saw it high up on a shelf and was like "wooowwwww!!". I was so thrilled to get it!

fatulousatforty · 26/11/2019 21:35

@MB25 I always wanted one of those but unfortunately we couldn't afford it

Sammi38 I had that game as a kid but bought it from a jumble sale, I was talking to someone about it the other week when we were talking about how rubbish board games are now.

Hungry hippos for me 😂

Enwi · 26/11/2019 21:36

My mum got my sister and I a cardboard box filled with brats dolls, clothes and shoes from a carboot sale. Hands down favourite gift ever. We were obsessed with them for years!
After that it’s the expensive ones I remember unfortunately Blush I remember getting an Xbox 360 as a teenager and being sooooo excited to get it set up. Also an iPod off my grandma once.

danni0509 · 26/11/2019 21:37

Loving these.

Noticed hungry hippos and connect 4 on the lists, have bought my 6 year old these games plus pop up pirate.

Loved these games as a child.

IamMadameX · 26/11/2019 21:37

Merlin electronic game but I mainly remember as it didn't work!

Tip always check electronic games, battery items work before the big day

I can honestly say that I had lovely Christmas presents as a child but the two presents I loved were personalised coloured pencils and Spirograph..yes many years ago !!

DragonMamma · 26/11/2019 21:38

I had a few favourites - a pink cassette recorder with a blue record button.

Then I had the Jem guitar/keyboard/cassette player/stage. It was amazing. Still think of it now.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/11/2019 21:38

An A'La Carte kitchen and my first cabbage patch kid. I still have him. We also got an electric train set. That was probably more for my dads benefit though!

Sammy867 · 26/11/2019 21:38
