A continuation of the discussion regarding the MOD news and ethics surrounding Instagram “influencers”.

I’m pretty sure she’s only about 15,000 followers

How do people know exactly or even approximately how many followers an IGer would have lost by the way?
Seeing as if you have say hundred of thousands, it'd only say something like 550k or whatever.
Not an exact amount so you'd see how many was lost?

In the scheme of things she’s lost hardly anything....

She was on 670k I think. And now on 662k so small fry really.

I never followed the Insta-mums but went to Tattle to have a look after seeing articles.
I posted twice (nothing offensive, just discussing whether MOD's comments were racist and the poster agreed with me) but the next time I logged on I was banned for spam?!

If anyone isn't banned could they go on the thread and explain systemic racism and unconscious bias? It would be great if this scandal helped stop the gifted bubble and use of kids who can't consent but some of the opinions on racism are embarrassing and damaging. Some people are doing sterling work highlighting why the comments are harmful but others are dragging up stories of colleagues who they (apparently ( can't criticise because of race etc! Unless they're a parody??

I thought Cady wants to be an influencer or is one particularly as I never see her on the other celeb threads.

Those websites exist not to watch Instagrammers. They exist primarily as a business tool to monitor engagement/following which is monetised based on numbers. Why? Because there are people on Instagram who run it aa business and others who buy their services.

That's the crux of the issue. It's a business that sells personal connection and relatability as core offering. In the olden days, marketeers would chase awareness as a measure. You need to make people aware of the product and benefits and it'll sell. These days it's salience. It's hard to create salience in ATL advertising. Influencers are manna from heaven to marketeers. It's salience in human form. "It's for me because someone like me/someone I would like to be uses it"

Let's not be naive here.

I'm not overly fussed on figures and I'm still following just to see what trick will come next! I should be on my
Laptop working.. I've been sucked in by this insta drama and it's just not healthy. This person MoD lives close by, has a wonderful house and decked out gifted from all sorts.. people woo at her wonderful life. Nothing in life is free as my dear mother would say.. I feel sad, I've seen both sides over the past week but still doesn't make her actions right.

MOD has lost nearly 14,000 followers since this thing blew up. Which is only 2% of her followers at her peak. Barely a ripple really.

With the papers saying she has lost 35k followers, maybe the real story is that not many people actually care.

One thing that confuses me on IG is that you have these huge accounts eg FOD 1m followers but the likes & comments are teeny in comparison same with the Kardashian's. But then thinking about it I don't use insta anymore but haven't closed my account.

Tattle posters are in the main defying the attempts to explain why racist terms are racist even if you think they actually fit the individual they are describing. I think most of them agree with her regarding Candice Braithwaite, and they don’t think they themselves are racist, so QED.

I feel very old but can someone please explain this for me. So she is a midwife who has also made a career out of Instagram photos of her family thus gaining so many followers she gained advertising money? So how much money has she made from this roughly?

You can’t see for sure but the last set of accounts had nearly quarter of a million cash in the bank apparently. So, a lot.

And all the freebies - including new kitchen, bathrooms and holidays.
