A continuation of the discussion regarding the MOD news and ethics surrounding Instagram “influencers”.

How about considering that black women get called aggressive for perfectly normal behaviour all the time, regardless of the applicability of it to this one individual. This can ruin their careers, their confidence and their relationships. It can lead to them getting treated less fairly by HCPs, by law enforcement, in customer service. Black women get accused of ‘playing the race card’ if they try to complain about unfair treatment in an institutionally racist world.

White women being accused of not seasoning their food on the other hand tend to let that wash over them.

The term the race card is in itself racist.
As is mixing up separate black women dotty, although I assume you're doing it on purpose.

dotty I think what you’re saying and what lots of others are saying is pretty much the problem here.

I’m white, and I can categorically say I’m not racist. However I know that I have absorbed some racist tropes and due to my circumstances (White, MC, educated) they are in there embedded and will manifest in ways that I am unconscious of. I need to work on myself to make sure that I don’t say something stupid. Overstep. Speak of experiences I have no business about.

I don’t get to decide what is racist. And I think in this virtue signalling, fake insta world we need to take account of ourselves and check our privilege. And so for CH to say- and I think she said it from a one dimensional place, she didn’t think it through- and that’s her white privilege all over. She didn’t think, she said what she said and it was loaded and their are repercussions.

I think it’s really really unfortunate.

Also, let’s not be unreal. CB isn’t all sunshine and rainbows either.

It's fine to call anyone aggressive if they are being aggressive, but MOD then brought race into it and she didn't mention the race of any of her other fellow insta-mums when she was slating them. Therefore MOD was linking the 'aggressive' behaviour with Candice's race.

I'm re-reading the Alice comments now about Candice and it is surprising that the comments she made have been picked up in the press in isolation from the incidents that triggered them, which involved CB's threat re the oesophagus and the veiled threats against the other blogger, who she referred to as a "collection of cells", I don't have the words to articulate how disgusting I find that description. Anyone defending CB should read the whole threads back again.

On another note, Grazia, usually a pioneer of sloppily researched articles, actually published a good piece giving some insights into the instahun world, which is worth a read.

@tooearlyforcrackers it is possible to not be a massive CB fan and also think MOD made a horribly racist statement. The two are not mutually exclusive.

I agree, and my feelings about the whole issue are the same. What mod said was unforgivable but what CB has done in the past is also abhorrent. Yet CB is being sent flowers and sappy letters from the instahuns while mod has gone into hiding and is being roasted in the press. It’s bizarre.
