A continuation of the discussion regarding the MOD news and ethics surrounding Instagram “influencers”.

Apparently MoD is on a girls weekend in Paris right now, so not suffering too greatly. Good, I hope she is enjoying herself and with some real friends, not the imaginary ones that Insta conjures up. Blimey, does anyone actually want her to suffer?

Well, the photos were spotted on Instagram, which is how the world knows. But possibly a normal Insta account rather than an influencer? Dunno.

What’s the Instamum version of drinking the kool-aid? As one of my faves is now in the same club as the abysmal Clemmie Telford and Candice and I’m sad.

One of my old favourites has had her head turned by influencer jollies, freebie pans and flat pack furniture. At leasts she hasn't done her own podcast....yet. I unfollowed when the ads started creeping in. She was interesting when she was a young professional with a cool house, quirky furnishings and nice chat. Now she's just....dull, flogging blankets and showing the same corner of her kitchen on repeat.

She’s had a bit of a tidy up of people she follows. Down from around 3.5k to 1.6k since this all kicked off. Her followers rose for the first time yesterday, looks like she stemmed the outflow by taking her account offline for a bit. One way to get people talking about you again I suppose. She’ll be back soon enough I suspect.

I have lots of things I would criticise her for (I basically consider them public figures so they are not above reproach) but I prefer her to her wanna-bes and I think they’ve all shown their true colours with the way they’ve jumped on this incident as a way of getting her out of the way. I actually do quite enjoy her content.

@Cookit Yes nothing is as heartwarming as looking at pretty children and lush interiors as you put to the back of your mind the casual racism and unpleasant bitchiness. The ghastly husband is just ploughing on regardless but his demographic isn’t BAME people so what does it matter

Anyone noticed how all the instafloggers are trying to hide the AD disclosure by using lower case ad rather than upper case AD to make it less prominent. As soon as they get issued with new guidance they look for another loophole to hide their disclosures. They are all so shady.

There was an interesting piece on R4's Today programme this morning. Essentially any influencer with more than +/- 40,000 followers can expect to be earning an average UK salary. Which is great, and good luck to them, but let’s stop with the bit of fun pretence. It’s a money making industry and, as such, needs regulation, honesty and transparency.

Yes I just noticed that too early. I do wonder if it is to stem the flow of people unfollowing after being shared on the radio.

Do you think they aren't genuine new followers?

It's only a few thousand so not a massive purchase. I saw one once that went from 100k to 300k - like no one is going to notice that!!

I don't think his ego would be able to take it slipping below 1m again but it has been headed that way for weeks. Hard to tell if they are genuine though is it? Something must have happened to buck the trend though - maybe a shout out from another blogger?

Didn't last long anyway, he's lost another 20 already today. The slide continues...
