A continuation of the discussion regarding the MOD news and ethics surrounding Instagram “influencers”.

Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 22:46

Yes.

LetThemEatDrama · 24/11/2019 22:58

Oh yes, letting your kids risk their safety and taking pics is far better than parenting them. Love how FoD thinks just not sharing their faces now, after all the privacy has gone anyway, is going to build the OD reputation back, or keep his followers. He'll be itching for all this to blow over and use them as ad-bait again, must be killing him.

Madhatterhouse · 24/11/2019 23:15

Kate Lawler has just published a new episode of her podcast featuring MOD and he reception has been... not good.

Horriblemysteries · 25/11/2019 06:03

Someone has actually called him on staging the photo and he claimed that was what he walked into - luckily with his phone to hand Hmm. Anyone remember the photo of the twin on top of the wardrobe ages ago? It was deleted after being mentioned on the old MN threads as a potentially stupid thing to do. If your kid is known for climbing you don’t leave hob nobs on the top shelf of an open larder unit.

Horriblemysteries · 25/11/2019 06:34

MOD actually started gaining followers again today while FOD's continues to slide. He must be spewing. I think she will wait until there are a few more 'where's Clemmie' questions, perhaps a sympathic note or two from some allies, like Kate Lawler, and then she will make her comeback with a Family Is Everything post just before Christmas, or maybe even a New Year New Me post if she can hang on that long.

Minionmomma · 25/11/2019 08:11

Oh mod will bounce back just like Kate moss did after the whole coke snorting caught on cam. I have RTWT but I wouldn’t be surprised if mod and her pr people orchestrated the whole thing just for more limelight. No such thing as bad press etc

Horriblemysteries · 25/11/2019 08:33

Candice's latest post. Imagine a whole book of that waffle!

Itsashame · 25/11/2019 08:39

How do you see how many followers he is losing? I can just see 1m as before

SunshineP · 25/11/2019 09:09

My friend from school died in child birth. She was young and mixed heritage. It’s not my place to tell her story but I hope Clemmie isn’t just forgiven because that would be very wrong.

8Iris8 · 25/11/2019 10:42

Very sorry for the loss of your friend SunshineP Was Clemmie her midwife - how did she contribute to your friend's death?

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 25/11/2019 12:10

Re the Kate Lawler post, why is CH a midwife extraordinaire? My friend recently retired after working full time as a midwife for 35 + years, in terms of experience that is quite an achievement. I do agree with KL re cancel culture and that CH has acknowledged her mistake but that, for me, is exactly the issue. CH has "acknowledged" her mistake - with a disappearing non-apology and her lack of engagement since is absolutely an example of cancel culture.

Itsashame · 25/11/2019 12:30

8iris8 I don’t think sunshine would be likely to post those details. In any case, I assumed from the post that sunshine was referring to the issue of black women dying in Childbirth more often than white women, and MODs comments about race

Itsashame · 25/11/2019 12:32

Although I can’t be sure my assumption is correct of course

SunshineP · 25/11/2019 12:34

@8Iris8 Of course not.
What a ridiculous thing to ask.

8Iris8 · 25/11/2019 12:54

@SunshineP no less ridiculous than your insinuation that Clemmie Hooper was somehow involved with your friend’s death. Yes what she said was wrong but to link her name to other people’s deaths is quite disingenuous. And I’m speaking as someone non-white who thinks this whole situation and the demonisation of Clemmie Hooper has been blown completely out of proportion. There are many reasons why black women are 4 x more likely to childbirth and blaming an individual who apparently only works one shift a week strikes me as kind of a ‘burn the witch’ type of response. I’m not saying institutional racism does not exist but having had a child at Kings hospital (where Hooper works) at least half of the midwifes I came into contact were not white.

SunshineP · 25/11/2019 13:21

@8iris8 It’s clear what I meant. The statistics for BAME women as acknowledged by Clemmie Hooper in one of her posts is really appalling. You wanted a fight and you have chosen a really odd hill to die on. Bore off I can’t be bothered with people like you.
In reality people like Clemmie and you will always come out on top because the deaths of BAME women don’t bother enough people.
Let’s hone your hero soon gets all her lovely deals back and you can all glory in her wonder. You can celebrate with a gusto dinner wearing ‘small brand’ dresses. It will all be super.
My friend was 19 when she died and it was a long time ago. I see her mum when I can she is such a lovely lady. She got an apology from the hospital and a reassurance that they would put in place training to make sure this would never happen again.
But here we are with a high profile midwife using racist tropes to describe a black woman.
But hey what does it matter... ? She has given a half arsed apology about the issue not addressed the racism and yet people like you will defend her.
Don’t bother replying to me. I’ll just bow to your superior opinion....!

8Iris8 · 25/11/2019 13:44

@SunshineP Thanks for ordering me not to reply to you. I'm sorry you are unable to have a reasoned discussion me without accusing me of having 'a superior opinion' ' wanting a fight' and saying that Clemmie Hooper is my hero. In fact I think that her and her husband are pretty despicable people for the way they exploit their children, but making her the poster girl for BAME maternal deaths is not really a reasonable thing to do in my opinion which I am entitled too. If you actually read what I wrote without your angry stance, you will note that I am not white myself. I don't personally like the term BAME, but if you wish to use that label that's what I am, so well-done for your completely unfounded assumptions that I don't care for others like me.

Please don't see this reply as 'wanting a fight' I see mumsnet as a discussion board but there are so many people like you that use the terms 'bore off' and other such nonsense to shut down other people's opinions.

Horriblemysteries · 25/11/2019 15:14

Everyone is now quoting that article as clear evidence of racial bias when that’s not what it says.

This is what it says

The almost five-fold higher mortality rate amongst black women compared with white women requires urgent explanation and hence development of actions to address this. There is a clear place for engaging further with third sector organisations to address advocacy and support needs for ethnic minority women as well as further research on the underlying causes of disparity.

MouseClogs · 25/11/2019 20:08

Yes, Horrible, I can see why people make the assumption but it's not useful.

The article says quite clearly that it's very likely multifactoral and gives a number of what are believed to be major contributing factors, almost none of which relate to bias. There is also the fact that there are major racial discrepancies in rates of quite a few obstetric complications eg pre-eclampsia (which is not altogether surprising if you know that the black population has a hugely higher risk of general hypertension and related issues than the white, Asian and Hispanic populations).

It's a v complicated area, and although inherently very emotive the invoking of it in relation to Hooper's sockpuppeteering is crass, stupid and unhelpful (and in the case of many of the Instamums doing so, disingenuous).

WingingItSince1973 · 25/11/2019 20:15

@SunshineP I read it that you were accusing midwives like Clemmie for your friends sad death. I think your tone was very aggressive! Women die in childbirth for all sorts or reasons. I hope that it's not 100% connected to racism as I cant fathom that out. I would have died had it not been for my persistence that something was terribly wrong with me and my baby (pre eclampsia) and was eventually rushed into theatre for emcs as my organs and my dd organs were closing down. As it is here I am 3 daughters later all 3 csection. Maybe Clemmie is racist but what she wrote on a well known page was an observance of one lady who I'm afraid has a reputation for her aggressiveness and NOT because of colour. It's just gone way out of proportion now with everyone and their dog using her name in the same sentence as these awful deaths. I also would like to add that I had some awful midwives in hospital after my 2nd and 3rd baby and they were white as am I so there definitely wasnt any bias there. They were just in the wrong job as far as I was concerned x

Horriblemysteries · 25/11/2019 21:34

Absolutely, Mouseclogs, it is a very complicated area which has unfortunately been hijacked by people wanting to wade into the argument, which isn't really helpful to understanding the reasons for, or changing the stats in any way.

I have no idea why the BBC used CB to provide quotes to support the release of the research, because her opinions are purely that, her opinions - how on earth can she say that expectant white mothers "seemed to be listened to in more depth and with a sense of empathy". Was she with the other mums when they were examined, in the same birthing room as them? I had no idea who was in the bed next to me when I was in hospital giving birth, let alone have time to listen to their conversations and compare them to the care I was receiving. Having CB discuss the report on the podcast was misguided for all kinds of reasons, imo.

BBC Article about the report

MerryDeath · 26/11/2019 13:00

everyone..... (Clemmie, i see you lurking, I'm talking to you!) , I had a dream Clemmie made her insta comeback by posting a hilarious video of a tiny Clemmie flushing herself down a toilet. true story! everyone loved it and forgave her 🤷‍♀️ now pay me!

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 26/11/2019 16:42

Well that is one way of making a comeback! Presumably it was #pressdiscount (for absolute transparency!) for Andrex.

PostCourgette · 26/11/2019 16:45

its all so dramatic!

RexDangerVest · 26/11/2019 20:15

Is FOD going to mention her at all?
