What are the common themes on your areas local Facebook page?

I am actually just curious. Our local area Facebook page just seems to have certain themes and issues that rile up the locals. The views on there are certainly not shared by DH and I. Some of them are so bad it is actually encouraging us to move Shock. The common stuff is:

-Missing cats. The local cats are forever disappearing it seems
-Found cats, trying to trace owners
-Missing wheelie bins (hopefully not connected to cats)

  • Warnings about strangers or (and this really pisses me off) people who look 'foreign' and suspicious in the area
  • The local bird life - there was a raging debate recently about magpies

And the stuff the local people complain about:

-Fireworks - for some reason they start in September around here and go on inexplicably all the way to New Year,
-The local councils management of grass verges and general grass area maintenance
-Virgin Media
-Dog mess - including posting videos of dog walkers failing to pick up after their dogs
-Parking. Especially pavement parking.

I am not asking for the locations, as that is pretty outing, but I am just interested in whethers others are like ours or have as many missing cats or different things that rile up the locals.

No disappearing cats apart from ours once on the day we got him from a rescue. We thought he must have escaped but he turned up in the house 12 hours later. He’s huge, so god knows how he hid. I might not have mentioned on the local page that he was here all along Blush

Ours is full of potential vast new housing estates that might be built, joining all the local villages, with inadequate schools, so children will have to go to school in a nearby (less affluent) town. Doctors will be over-stretched too. It’s very NIMBY around here.

Also youths have been spotted at the skate park. They’re teenagers with skateboards, and can be intimidating for the toddlers on scooters, even though there’s a separate fenced off area for toddlers, and another one for bigger (but not teen) kids. Bloody teenagers hanging out in the only place in town that they’re allowed to congregate.

People ALWAYS want to know where’s good for afternoon tea. The same three places are always recommended but you can guarantee someone will ask the same question again the next day.

New housing
Dead cats
People parking on pavements
Flooding sewers

sunshineandshowers21 · 27/10/2019 00:22

missing cats, people complaining about neighbours, people complaining about kids on motorbikes, people complaining about parking. lots of complaining! although there was a post the other day from a woman looking for a sperm donor...

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/10/2019 00:23

Forriners.
How the town centre is turning into a shit hole (because the same shops that are closing everywhere are closing)
Forriners.
People who look like they might be forriners.
Some people aren’t white.
Some people follow different faiths.
Why don’t they go back where they came from

*i know the correct spelling of foreigners btw.

KeeperofthePeace · 27/10/2019 00:24

Oh yes the requests for recommendations. It is kids swimming lessons here. And yes, the same three suggestions constantly, and then the next day, the same question again... 😂

Parking, missing cats and (for some reason) found children’s shoes.

Oh, and moaning that teenagers congregate in the recreation ground.

KeeperofthePeace · 27/10/2019 00:25

Sperm donor? Did she get any offers?

OP posts:
sunshineandshowers21 · 27/10/2019 00:28

there were a lot of comments from people tagging their friends as a joke, and a few about the safety of using a randomer’s sperm, but other than that no.

Sparklingbrook · 27/10/2019 00:30

Lately there have been a few disturbing cases of rabbits/Guinea pigs being butchered.

sunshineandshowers21 · 27/10/2019 00:32

SmilingButClueless · 27/10/2019 00:32

We did have a picture of a leech a few days ago, so that’s a bit unusual.

Runningsmooth · 27/10/2019 00:33

Found dogs and lost dogs and lost cars. Occasionally found horses.

TheNinkiestNonk · 27/10/2019 00:34

Fireworks
Missing dogs
Missing cats
Dead cats

Moaning about all of the above

CakeNinja · 27/10/2019 00:34

Lots of break ins and vandalism posts on ours recently.
That and lost or found dogs.
A surprising amount actually.
Common whinges seem to include parking, bad driving and dog shit!

Posts about the local yoofs

Proposed increase in parking charges (going up to a whopping 65p an hour). I've lived here for 5 years and there's sufficient free parking in town that I've never ever had to use a pay and display car park.

Then there's the usual - wheelie bins, cats that are minding their own business that people think are straying, bad driving, barking dogs etc.

CactusAndCacti · 27/10/2019 00:41

A roundabout, the play area, the roundabout, CCTV pictures of someone doing something, moans that the area is going to ruin, the roundabout and then lots of racist, Brexit related posts.

OrangeSwoosh · 27/10/2019 00:42

Oh and my personal favourite, "I've found this driving license (with accompanying photo of said find), does anyone know who it belongs to?

Yeah. You literally have their name and address right there, dipshit

OrangeSwoosh · 27/10/2019 00:43

@CactusAndCacti what's up with the roundabout?

RoseMartha · 27/10/2019 00:43

Potholes
Traffic jams
Road works
Boy racers
Pictures of the park
Pictures of wildlife
The weather

Papergirl1968 · 27/10/2019 00:51

Lost cats/found cats.
Is Virgin Media down?
Can anyone recommend a dance school/takeaway/window cleaner etc?

Today someone posted a pic of a man still in his dressing gown staggering out of Aldi with loads of beer, which at least made a change!

CactusAndCacti · 27/10/2019 00:55

People have no idea how to use it apparently and there has been some near misses. Lots of calls for it to go.

I think they are probably all just a bit shit at using a mini roundabout. I rarely go near it as it isn't on any of my routes really and I would walk if I wanted anything near it.

I, however, can use a mini roundabout.Halo

camelfinger · 27/10/2019 00:55

How it used to be lovely area with no crime, now it’s just getting worse and worse. What is wrong with the world?

LittleAndOften · 27/10/2019 00:57

Dog poo
Parking
Social housing residents
Litter
Occasional noise moaning - fireworks, dogs barking
Free to collect junk that people can't be arsed to take to the tip
Kids riding scooters/bikes/skateboards in a disrespectful manner
Whether or not we can feed bread to the ducks Hmm
Potholes and how the council are spending HARD EARNED TAXPAYERS MONEY

Seems these are universal themes!

LittleAndOften · 27/10/2019 00:57

Oh and cctv stills of someone shifty at 3am
