What are the common themes on your areas local Facebook page?

I am actually just curious. Our local area Facebook page just seems to have certain themes and issues that rile up the locals. The views on there are certainly not shared by DH and I. Some of them are so bad it is actually encouraging us to move Shock. The common stuff is:

-Missing cats. The local cats are forever disappearing it seems
-Found cats, trying to trace owners
-Missing wheelie bins (hopefully not connected to cats)

  • Warnings about strangers or (and this really pisses me off) people who look 'foreign' and suspicious in the area
  • The local bird life - there was a raging debate recently about magpies

And the stuff the local people complain about:

-Fireworks - for some reason they start in September around here and go on inexplicably all the way to New Year,
-The local councils management of grass verges and general grass area maintenance
-Virgin Media
-Dog mess - including posting videos of dog walkers failing to pick up after their dogs
-Parking. Especially pavement parking.

I am not asking for the locations, as that is pretty outing, but I am just interested in whethers others are like ours or have as many missing cats or different things that rile up the locals.

@nancy75 we must live in the same area! Unless there are seamstress wars all over the country

Witchend · 28/10/2019 10:35

Found cats (that probably aren't lost)
Lost dogs
Brexit (approximately even between sides)
Grove is a twit
Boris is a twat
Blame Cameron for everything...
Dogs barking
Fireworks should be banned.
We saw a traveller... (or at any rate an innocent holiday goer with a caravan)
What school should I put down.
Hospital parking...

It's a general moan fest of entertainment.

MissEliza · 28/10/2019 10:37

The last minute requests for eyelash extensions always make me laugh. Is that something you kind of plan ahead

apples24 · 28/10/2019 13:22

Mostly complaints about dog poo, teenagers and new housing developments.

It can at times get very heated...

CameraTime · 28/10/2019 13:23

We have endless daily requests for recommendations for plumbers, electricians etc, with the same people being recommended time. It would be far quicker to search recent posts than to type in the question. A couple of weeks ago I asked for recommendations for a chimney sweep (I have NEVER seen anyone ask for recommendations for a chimney sweep) and got one response, v which was "if you use the search box at the top right you'll find loads".

Other than that, we have:

A lot of missing/found dogs/cats/drones
Rambling nostalgia/"Does anyone remember Elaine Browne she went to Local Primary School in 1953 I'd love to get in touch?"
"Thank you for letting me join" (literally anyone can join)
Mad Brexit/climate change conspiracy theories from the same bloke
Mysogynistic/racist/xenophobic "jokes"

Evilmorty · 28/10/2019 13:28

Oh dear, ours is quite sad in comparison.

  • videos of local arrests
  • dashcam stuff of the same junction that has a crash almost every week
  • stabbing updates like where the helicopter has landed/road closures
  • those ring doorbell videos of people breaking in
  • updates on local restaurant food ratings

The good bits are

  • events at the library
  • children’s events like Halloween and Christmas parties
Evilmorty · 28/10/2019 13:30

And our high brow political one is literally either “why won’t our labour council leader apologise!!!” or gloaty, “local bike scheme didn’t work did it! We told you they’d all get nicked!”

subwaysaladfan · 28/10/2019 13:34

Here it's

Missing cats
Loose dogs
Dogs being attacked by dogs off lead
Dog poo
Parking
Vans being broken into

bluebluezoo · 28/10/2019 13:36

I also like the ones asking for recommendations for a tattooist/electrician/plumber that must be available today, be qualified and do a top job, and be cheap.

Lots of replies from dave/steve/pete who say they’ll come round now and do it for £20.

Then someone will point out that anyone decent, and qualified will have a wait list, will be more than £20 because professional indemnity, correct tools etc.

Poster gets dave in then posts exactly the same the next week because dave has fucked it up.

Tattooists though? Who on earth wants a same day appt with anyone who will do it cheap and expect a good result?!

TwattingDog · 28/10/2019 13:48

Oh god yes, the tattooist recommendations.

"I needs sum1 2 do a picture of my cat. Medeeum size. Not sure were yet. Show me Ur animal tatoos and were U got em".

Cue dozens of non animal tattoo photos, many shaky, badly tattooed roses and portraits of loved ones saying how great their "artist" is.

I recommend a mate who did a degree in fine art, draws all tattoos in advance (ya know, like they should) and does incredible realism of animals, and nope - he's too far away. 30mins on a direct train. They always opt for a special offer from a standard tattoo board at a local scratcher. Gah.

soundsystem · 28/10/2019 15:18

Lost and found cats here too
Where/when/how to obtain parking vouchers
Brexit
Recent changes to a local roundabout (people feel incredibly strongly about this)
Planned development of flats nearby
The local hospital
How/when to apply for school places

It used to be cyclists vs motorists (we have some new cycle lanes) but this topic has now been banned!

Iwantacookie · 28/10/2019 17:32

@cameratime that reminded me I saw one for a chimney sweep other week too.

Pixiefalls · 28/10/2019 17:33

Chippy wars

itsme · 28/10/2019 17:49

Still on a page from my old town, plenty of can you recommend insert trade here, where's best for a carvery/sunday roast?, anyone know why the police helicopter/cars were on such X street at x time woke the kids, why can't I get an appt at X doctors for 3 weeks when I'm ill today, foreign taxi driver approached teenager asking for directions looked dodgy, who's bank card/driving licence is this? And plenty of disappearing cats.

Some of it is funny as it's the same people all the time.

EleanorReally · 28/10/2019 18:08

any jobs going, not cleaning or caring.
Fireworks
bad parking/driving
robberies
occasional foreign looking people driving slowly in white vans, but these do get shouted down
my favourite group is old pictures of what the village/town used to look like, in black and white.
another group from a big town 12 miles away is very pro brexit, which is annoying and unnecessary.

EleanorReally · 28/10/2019 18:09

tele number for the hermes
what taxi driver/tyre place/chinese/ would you recommend

EleanorReally · 28/10/2019 18:12

oh yes, dead cats, you must not post unless you have personally taken to vets, for the elusive microchip

BertrandRussell · 28/10/2019 18:27

I honestly didn’t realise that there really isn’t anything new under the sun.....

Bunnybigears · 28/10/2019 18:32

The major theme here is teenagers guilty of being teenagers. Apparently they should not be in the park, the street, the bus station, the shops or the supermarket.

NerrSnerr · 28/10/2019 18:34

We have a dead cat lady who has a scanner. To be fair I think she scans alive ones too. I'm not sure if she has just acquired a scanner or is from an organisation but someone finds a cat and she turns up with her scanner.

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 28/10/2019 18:36

Oh god, someone on mine has just posted a video of a row between adults and teenagers that appears to result in an assault.

Yes, absolutely post it on Facebook rather than inform the police. For the sake of my blood pressure I think I'd best remove myself from the group.

CruCru · 28/10/2019 18:45

I always find it weird when people post that they have found someone’s driving license - it has the address, they could post it.

Similarly a wallet with someone’s bank cards can be handed in to the police - they can trace cards.

marmalademermaid · 28/10/2019 18:50

Frequent themes locally include:
Dog Fouling
Parking Shaming
What time various takeaways open/close/recommendations/pizza turf wars
Lost Dog/ Found Dog/ Dog seen making great escape
Missing Cats
Takeaways again
Dead Cats (including off-tangent discussions about the scanner lady/vets/precise location of dead cat [what.three.words anyone?])
New housing/planning
The village is no longer a village due to the new houses
Takeaways yet again

SheChoseDown · 28/10/2019 19:26

Passive aggressive comments on an incident that happened earlier.
'to the bald man in aldi carpark who just couldn't..... Blahhhhhh fuckin blah'

My town has a regular page, one for asking questions..... And one for the outlaws who aren't allowed on the regular page. Shut gets tense

BigFatBloomers · 28/10/2019 22:20

Too many coffee shops and no Primark or Weatherspoons
(Small town. It's never going to happen)
