What are the common themes on your areas local Facebook page?

I am actually just curious. Our local area Facebook page just seems to have certain themes and issues that rile up the locals. The views on there are certainly not shared by DH and I. Some of them are so bad it is actually encouraging us to move Shock. The common stuff is:

-Missing cats. The local cats are forever disappearing it seems
-Found cats, trying to trace owners
-Missing wheelie bins (hopefully not connected to cats)

  • Warnings about strangers or (and this really pisses me off) people who look 'foreign' and suspicious in the area
  • The local bird life - there was a raging debate recently about magpies

And the stuff the local people complain about:

-Fireworks - for some reason they start in September around here and go on inexplicably all the way to New Year,
-The local councils management of grass verges and general grass area maintenance
-Virgin Media
-Dog mess - including posting videos of dog walkers failing to pick up after their dogs
-Parking. Especially pavement parking.

I am not asking for the locations, as that is pretty outing, but I am just interested in whethers others are like ours or have as many missing cats or different things that rile up the locals.

How it used to be lovely area with no crime, now it’s just getting worse and worse. What is wrong with the world?

Do you live where I live? Our local page is obsessed with how downhill the area is going.

Bus stops.

There was a man walking along the street, be alert.

A post this morning by someone complaining they were reported for taking their dog into the play park which says "I know dogs aren't allowed in the play area but..."

KentuckyBourbonWhiskey · 27/10/2019 11:50

Posts about high end luxury vehicles being stolen
Posts about incidents, stabbings in the area
Blow by blow accounts of the delays on the tube line
Pictures of 12-13 year old boys on bikes alleging that they are up to no good
Requests for eyelash extension recommendations
Complaints about new eating establishments opening in the area (there are already lots)

worstofbothworlds · 27/10/2019 11:54

Students
Student housing
Homelessness and how if they didn't build any student housing there would be lots of homes for ex-forces sleeping rough (despite all the local homelessness charities coming on and saying it's a bit more complicated than that)
What's that helicopter?
What time is X shop open till?
Traffic
Lost wallets.
Scumbags who have hurt an animal/old person/young person.

worstofbothworlds · 27/10/2019 11:57

Oh yes, we do also get lovely photos. I've put a few up myself but there's a really talented guy who is worth looking out for.
And what the local landmark is lit up for (which is nice too).

Mrsjayy · 27/10/2019 12:02

Mrsjayy · 27/10/2019 12:05

Bankcards and keys is another lost thing they get het up about

SunshineAngel · 27/10/2019 12:05

Our is all about quad bikes and cars speeding round the local roads (it is terrible for it, think it's just one gang). Lots of lost and found cats. Benches have been removed from the shopping centre and it's caused UTTER OUTRAGE! "Is the town dead because it doesn't have a Primark? Discuss." And lots of photographic naming and shaming of rubbish parking - one of which was me, when I was wonky in the bay.. BUT IN THE LINES OF THE BAY therefore making it absolutely legal!

And coffee mornings.

GreekOddess · 27/10/2019 12:12

Missing cats.

People finding cats that aren't actually missing.

Photos of "celebrity" cats.

Speculation about which restaurant will be opening next.

Annual April fools joke whereby somebody pretends that a Maccy D's is opening in town.

drspouse · 27/10/2019 12:16

Saw a person. I didn’t recognise yesterday-
Did they have a dusky hue @BertrandRussell ?

Mrsjayy · 27/10/2019 12:17

Somebody complained about the state of their pie and chips from a well known chippy it was hilarious and the pie looked fine !

icebearforpresident · 27/10/2019 12:23

@mrsjay, ours had one recently complaining about a local shop. A pre-packaged cake she bought had a spot of mould on it, how dare the staff sell it to her, she’s pregnant and that could have been really dangerous for the baby, blah blah blah. Post went pretty quick when someone pointed out she’s still smoking while pregnant 😂.

Crinkle77 · 27/10/2019 12:27

My local page is currently obsessed with zip merging.

Mrsjayy · 27/10/2019 12:32

Oh dear Grin Icebearforpresident

ShippingNews · 27/10/2019 12:32

People wanting to know why the police are in a certain street, or hovering overhead in a helicopter. Somehow this is of vital importance to all residents !

BertrandRussell · 27/10/2019 12:34

They usually look “a bit dodgy”. Although memorably, one looked “Irish” once.

TwattingDog · 27/10/2019 12:35

Adverts for Younique
Arguments about MLMs
Cats lost / run over /meowing at someone's door
Dogs seen running down the street
Arguments about whose fault it is that the dogs keep getting out
The local industrial estate and bonkers traffic / poor planning for traffic
Foreign looking / Irish scammers out and about offering to do roofs / driveways / remove scrap metal
Recommendations about where to go for Christmas Day lunch
Arguments about whether it's ok to go out on Christmas Day as it stops the workers from having a day off

Firework conversations are banned on one group due to too much moaning.

bluebluezoo · 27/10/2019 12:41

Cats.

Pictures of a fat, glossy, well cared for six dinner sid with its nose in one of four bowls of cat food accompanied by a self congratulating post about how they’ve taken in the poor stray who was “starving” and keeps coming back every day for more food it’s so hungry.

Then lots of replies about how wonderful they are for looking after the poor cat and suggestions from the local found cat army over who will go round to scan it.

Also “warnings” after a vet said a cat was poisoned. Replies about stringing people up. No thought to the fact plants grow in gardens, people put rat poison down for vermin, antifreeze is in screenwash which drips onto the floor. It’s always malicious and deliberate.

Mrsjayy · 27/10/2019 12:45

I couldn't get passed six dinner sid Grin

happytoday73 · 27/10/2019 12:46

Lost pets, bins not being picked up, far too much brexit, best hairdresser, microblading, nails or best Sunday roast......
Occasionally local events!
(fireworks & local flooding this week)

DownstairsMixUp · 27/10/2019 12:53

Dog poo.
Crap parking.
Someone setting off fireworks before bonfire night.
Missing dogs and cats.
Shaming of local businesses if someone's had shit service.
People moaning about a large chain store opening as all the local shops will suffer (the high st is full of charity shops and it's dead constantly)
People moaning about new build housing estates.

Crinkle77 · 27/10/2019 13:00

@CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre sounds like my local page. Don't suppose you live by a famous racecourse do you?

NerrSnerr · 27/10/2019 13:00

The usual, dog poo, lost cats, fireworks and bad parking. There is a long term road closure out of the village so most days people ask when it's reopening, can you walk or cycle through etc? A group of kids are currently being idiots on their bikes, doing wheelies on the main road and darting in and out of traffic. One of the mums came on and said that it's ok for her son to be doing it because it's part of a scheme from Stormzy to stop knife crime (don't get killed by a knife, get killed on your bike instead??)

CactusAndCacti · 27/10/2019 13:01

People wanting to know why the police are in a certain street, or hovering overhead in a helicopter. Somehow this is of vital importance to all residents !

Oh yes we get that too. How they think anyone will know beats me and we also live near an arterial route, so chances are they are trying to catch someone.

Alternatively someone has done something wrong at the roundabout.
