What are the common themes on your areas local Facebook page?

I am actually just curious. Our local area Facebook page just seems to have certain themes and issues that rile up the locals. The views on there are certainly not shared by DH and I. Some of them are so bad it is actually encouraging us to move Shock. The common stuff is:

-Missing cats. The local cats are forever disappearing it seems
-Found cats, trying to trace owners
-Missing wheelie bins (hopefully not connected to cats)

  • Warnings about strangers or (and this really pisses me off) people who look 'foreign' and suspicious in the area
  • The local bird life - there was a raging debate recently about magpies

And the stuff the local people complain about:

-Fireworks - for some reason they start in September around here and go on inexplicably all the way to New Year,
-The local councils management of grass verges and general grass area maintenance
-Virgin Media
-Dog mess - including posting videos of dog walkers failing to pick up after their dogs
-Parking. Especially pavement parking.

I am not asking for the locations, as that is pretty outing, but I am just interested in whethers others are like ours or have as many missing cats or different things that rile up the locals.

Cat shit
Dog shit
Fireworks
"suspicious characters" - normally teens in hoodies passing by.
Stolen bikes
Traveller convoy spotting and a "call to arms" where they may pitch up.

Countrylifeornot · 27/10/2019 08:34

As well as cats, bin collections etc we have:

A woman who puts daily adverts trying to recruit cleaners. They must be fully DBS checked, have their own car and be very hard working. For NMW and a zero hours contract Angry

A spate of "dark skinned man asked my teenage daughter for the time, we must protect the children" type posts

A LOT of debate about the legality / morality of garden fires, and what the optimal time is to light one

At least twice a week a works van gets broken into and tools of trade get stolen. I have huge sympathy, but wouldn't anyone think to get a bloody alarm on the van considering how common this seems to be!?

BearSoFair · 27/10/2019 09:11

Found cats, nearly always turning out not to be lost and in fact belonging to someone who lives just a few doors down.
Questions about which bus to use to get to X, Y, or Z location.
Painter/decorator/builder/man with a van recommendations.
Complaints about traffic.
Is Virgin/Sky/Talk Talk/EE the best for broadband in this area?

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 27/10/2019 09:36

We have a famous* roundabout that garners several posts a week regarding drivers being in the wrong lane. There's one particular exit that causes most of the furore.

Forrin types, yoof hanging around and many missing cats which never seem to have collars or microchips.

*Only famous in a very small part of the country yet people here consider it more important than Brexit.

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 27/10/2019 09:37

Sorry, no idea how I bolded all that!

FlyUpAndDieWitch · 27/10/2019 09:38

Similar to the above on my local page, with the addition of an occasional moan about horse-poo on the road.

We have several local men who pop onto the comments of every post to correct everybody else.

They use the word Actually a lot.

They all seem to be called Robert.

KeeperofthePeace · 27/10/2019 09:43

The cats have got a lot to answer for it seems. I wonder what drives the thought process that these obviously well cared for, free roaming things must be stray and therefore captured, taken to the vets avd posted about.

Loving the Six Dinner Sid name, I will nick that Grin

We also have a roundabout that no one it seems uses correctly, and now the local councillor has been contacted.

Someone has also just suggested setting up a WhatsApp group so they can notify each other of any suspicious activity. Could you imagine!?!?!?!

We actually live in what is considered a pretty decent area.

Grin

Our Robert is very well-informed (ahem) about 5G and all its dangers. It grows tiring.

PenelopeFlintstone · 27/10/2019 09:56

Incorrect indicating on roundabouts
Kids smashing car windows and slashing car tyres - the kids are below chargeable age
Found keys
Uncut grass near walking tracks and snake risk

LittleAndOften · 27/10/2019 09:59

Our estate has a rebel group because the self-appointed "official" page is run by an admin who is a bit too taken with his own power, policing posts and banning people on a whim. Example - one of the residents arranged for a pizza van to come once a month. It's been a massive success and now they're coming weekly. The posts and postersstating time and location have been banned because they "weren't on the rightthread". SeriouslyHmm

On the rebel page anything goes and it's much happier!

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 27/10/2019 10:01

Moaning about the opening hours (or lack of) for the tip. Moaning that the tip won't take various things any more.

lastqueenofscotland · 27/10/2019 10:04

Missing cats
There is a local man who is the cause of much debate. He is mentally unwell but he has been known to sexually assault women, lots of women up in arms v men saying they shouldn’t e because he’s ill Hmm
Badly behaved secondary aged children on buses

Princesspaperbag · 27/10/2019 10:09

Dog poo
Traffic
Roadworks
Parking
Bad and rude drivers
Lost and found keys, teddies / baby blankets/ baby shoes, scooters and children’s bikes

weeblefeet · 27/10/2019 10:12

Our 'Robert' hates Jeremy Corbyn and manages to blame every post on the 'communist marxists'.

bethany39 · 27/10/2019 10:13

We've just moved, the new one so far seems to be largely misuse of lanes and jumping of lights on the "big" roundabout, and recommendations for people who come round after the bin men to clean the wheelie bins (this isn't something I've ever encountered as a "thing" anywhere else I've lived!) Hmm

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 27/10/2019 10:16

Ours is:

Missing cats
Dog shit
Crap parking

Interesting that these are recurring themes everywhere!

Shannith · 27/10/2019 10:21

@1point21gigawatts was about to post the same. Must live in same area.

Other than that, lost and found dogs.

Papergirl1968 · 27/10/2019 10:21

Oh we have a WhatsApp group for suspicious or criminal matters. It causes a lot of controversy especially when people post in the middle of the night and wake others up by causing their phone to ping!

KeeperofthePeace · 27/10/2019 10:23

Goes to show, it really does not matter where you live. You will always have the same problems Grin

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/10/2019 10:25

HS2. It will be passing directly through our town so it's always a hot topic.

Stolen bikes, there is a lot of petty crime around here.

Inconsiderate parking near the schools.

"Any recommendations for eyelash extensions" is a new big thing, it's obviously a new trend!

Papergirl1968 · 27/10/2019 10:27

Oh and a few people have taken to posting photos of autumn scenes, local beauty spots, etc.
I like seeing them except for pics by one bloke called Melvyn who always starts off his posts by saying “what a lovely photo I took today of such and such” or “great shot of such and such.”
It makes me want to tell him to stfu with his boasting about what a wonderful photographer he is.

formerbabe · 27/10/2019 10:30

I joined a local fb page. I've been genuinely surprised at how thick the people on there are.

ManonBlackbeak · 27/10/2019 10:34

Potholes
Empty shops in the town centre
How rubbish the local council are (see potholes)
Waiting times at A&E in the local hospital. Which makes me wonder how ill/injured the people who go to A&E actually are...

Scrumptiousbears · 27/10/2019 10:34

Missing cats

Dead cats having been ran over and left in the road.

Parking in child bays when they don't have kids

Kids (old ones) misbehaving when they should know better and how their parents must be proud then the defensive who say it's the councils fault as there's nothing for them to do.

Fireworks

Broadband not working mainly sky or Virgin Media

Phone signal mainly EE.

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/10/2019 11:00

We don’t seem to have one for our estate.
I might start one just for the hell of it.
