Stuck in a village in Yorkshire - help

So we've let our friends choose a B&B (they don't arrive till tomorrow) and there's literally nothing to do. We're in Monk Fryston - we thought we were going to Harrogate!

Can anyone recommend good bars/restaurants near here? We aren't local... I have no clue Grin

I think there's a pub.....

Had a lovely coffee there once.

The Queen o' t' owd Thatch about 2 miles from Monk Fryston do an award winning Sunday lunch and is very friendly.

Fancyseeingyouhere · 30/08/2019 16:24

Google the area?

LoveGrowsWhere · 30/08/2019 16:27

Monk Fryston Hall is a hotel. They have a restaurant & bar. It's on tripadvisor.

Best give the local shop a miss thenSmile

RachJx · 30/08/2019 16:46

I've googled but not a lot is coming up... I don't fancy paint balling.

The B&B owner said the hall hotel is really bad?

We'll save the Sunday lunch till Sunday! Smile

Are you in the car? Go to York!

I presume you have a car?

You aren't too far from Leeds or York. Or Sherburn in Elmet. You can do some Civil War history near there.

IceQueenCometh · 30/08/2019 16:54

You're a long way from Harrogate!!

IceQueenCometh · 30/08/2019 16:56

Google says there's a "convivial village pub" called the Crown: Spacious early 17th-century coaching house with a large pub grub menu. It's on Main Street

MoobaaMoobaa · 30/08/2019 16:57

hahaha I knew you would round that area Grin

I'm not really any help but don't for the love of god go to knottingly to relieve your boredom.

ClashCityRocker · 30/08/2019 16:58

I think selby might be the closest place for civilisation?

I can't believe I've just typed that.

HeadintheiClouds · 30/08/2019 17:01

How did you manage to drive there if you thought you were going to Harrogate?

cheesewitheverything · 30/08/2019 17:01

The next village along is Hambleton and I know the pub there, The Owl, is good for bar meals and different types of gin. Otherwise, during the day I'd say go to York Outlets for a bit of shopping and catch the park and ride bus into York.

MoobaaMoobaa · 30/08/2019 17:02

lotherton hall is a nice place to for a day out.

cheesewitheverything · 30/08/2019 17:03

The Owl also has a nice garden. I don't work there, I promise!

GellerYeller · 30/08/2019 17:03

What did the b And b owner recommend? Friends like the Indian on the Main Street towards Sherburn. York will be lovely early evening, there’s a designer outlet on the outskirts if you don’t want to go into town. Has lots of shops and pizza express, Wagamama etc. If that’s your style.

Try the Slaughtered Lamb but keep off the moors, stick to the road Wink

DameMargaretofChalfont · 30/08/2019 17:05

There's a discount retail outlet just off Junction 32 of the M62

user49er · 30/08/2019 17:06

Brilliant 😂... I went on a date to monk fryston once.... it's a nice pub!

teletone · 30/08/2019 17:08

Crooked Billet in Saxton is 10 mins away.

Amazing food and so much choice.

Not that expensive either. All homemade.

Well know for it's Yorkshire puddings the size of a roasting tin!!

Deathraystare · 30/08/2019 17:09

Ha ha! You rotter! I remember that film!

Imjusthere · 30/08/2019 17:10

Just commenting to also laugh at the Selby comment 🤣

GellerYeller · 30/08/2019 17:14

Bettys in York famed for afternoon tea if you brave the queue tomorrow. There’s potential for celeb spotting as there’s a rumoured A List wedding at the Minster!
