Stuck in a village in Yorkshire - help

So we've let our friends choose a B&B (they don't arrive till tomorrow) and there's literally nothing to do. We're in Monk Fryston - we thought we were going to Harrogate!

Can anyone recommend good bars/restaurants near here? We aren't local... I have no clue Grin

It’s the York designer outlet that’s the good one. The one by Xscape isn’t as good.

BarbaraStrozzi · 30/08/2019 18:10

Dressy shorts and heels - I think you may have misjudged Harrogate but spot on for a trip to Leeds. (Harrogate is vair genteel, posh tea rooms, expensive knitwear shops, Aga suppliers and some rather splendid Victorian Turkish Baths - but not what you'd call an exciting place).

GellerYeller · 30/08/2019 18:15

Please don’t go to Asda in Castleford on a naice weekend break. No good can come of this.

gigi556 · 30/08/2019 18:15

TripAdvisor is your friend

Instatwat · 30/08/2019 18:20

*I think selby might be the closest place for civilisation?

I can't believe I've just typed that.*

😂😂😂

RachJx · 30/08/2019 18:28

I forgot my toothbrush so had to venture to a Tesco Express. How do people survive here? How do you do a big shop? 😂

TripAdvisor didn't pull up much...

I've given my friend a light-hearted bollocking. Tomorrow we're having breakfast, the designer outlet and then we're going to get a taxi to York for the night.

Any bar recommendations for York would be good Grin

The Selby joke is going over my head - is it a shit hole? Grin

Have you gone on holiday by mistake?

RachJx · 30/08/2019 18:32

@ThighThighOfthigh 😂😂 yes! Yes! I've gone on holiday by mistake. It was meant to be a lovely weekend break away in Harrogate...

I’m originally from Selby

On alternate Friday nights the Selby yobs would go to York to fight the York yobs

The following week it was the turn of Goole yobs to come to Selby

Then Selby yobs would get a week off as it was Goole v York

Rinse and repeat

But if you’re going into York on a Saturday night you should be fine GrinGrin

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 30/08/2019 18:35

Aw I'm late to the party and you've had dinner. I was going to recommend a fantastic restaurant in Garforth (about 6 miles away) called la Bella Vita. It's my local Italian and it's very very good. There's a few pubs in Garforth too so you can make a night of it.

pumkinspicetime · 30/08/2019 18:37

lovely Thai in Escrick
It is nice food there.
The parsonage in Escrick has a Spa if you need a massage to recover from all this!

irishtwo · 30/08/2019 18:38

I would just get as drunk as possible tonight in that bar you’re in 😂 is there music later or a juke box or anything?

MoobaaMoobaa · 30/08/2019 18:43

Evil Eye should be on your pub crawl.

sunshinesupermum · 30/08/2019 18:43

I'd second going into York tomorrow - Harrogate is lovely but York has more to see/do as well as the shopping outlet.

Your friends have made a huge mistake tho - Harrogate is lovely to spend a weekend although when I was there three weeks ago it was quiet in the evening even with good eateries and people eat early. Not sure your shorts and heels would have gone down well OP - they're all quite conservative in Harrogate lol

GellerYeller · 30/08/2019 18:47

Wasn’t there a thread on here that got picked up by the press about marauding stags and hens ruining the ambience in York on Saturdays? Get there early OP!

chucke · 30/08/2019 18:51

Stay where you are, don't bother getting changed, get smashed and make friends with the locals

PeterthePainter · 30/08/2019 19:00

Dial the nearest Lancashire police station. They'll come and rescue you as it's a genuine emergency.

The Indian in South Milford is apparently good & can recommend Sapori or Capri Italian restaurants in Selby!

CaptainCallisto · 30/08/2019 19:18

Another vote for the Thai in Escrick. It's the only place I can eat Thai food as I'm allergic to chilli! Most places panic if I call and enquire - these guys just said "No worries, have a look at the menu, give us a call to tell us what you fancy, and we'll make it up separately for you".

Evil Eye is good drinks wise in York.

GellerYeller · 30/08/2019 19:26

Yorkshire has given much to the world; Yorkshire tea, Pontefract cakes, the rhubarb triangle, Ed Sheeran, Countdown, Dame Judi Dench, Brian Blessed, Parky!! Terry’s Chocolate Orange, Kaiser Chiefs, Keith Lemon... Sadly none are quite from where you’ve found yourself but you can do The Shambles tomorrow, inspiration for part of Harry Potter 😂😂😂 (tongue firmly in cheek here)

Rosieposy4 · 30/08/2019 19:30

God not the cumin lunge, they gave me food poisoning. Glad you also avoiding monk fryston hall, pretty poor there these days.
Chinese in south Milford ok, if you want indian go down to the Thaal at Brotherton.
Taxi to York and back will cost you an arm and a leg, prebook your ride out in plenty of time. If you don’t mind a bit of a saunter walk to the train station in south Milford ( actually not that far from the B and B, maybe 20-25 mins ) and get a train into Leeds for the evening ( or York via Selby) less hen partyish than York and loads of good cocktail bars of that’s what you want.

Rosieposy4 · 30/08/2019 19:32

Big shop, there is an Aldi in sherburn, otherwise take a pair of tough dogs and brave the Morrisons in Knottingley.

MorrisZapp · 30/08/2019 19:41

My sister accidentally went to Knaresborough and spent two nights in the actual best Air bnb of all time.
