I think someone’s been in my flat when I’m out

I went to a BBQ in Saturday night and received a strange text from my DD who was home in her bedroom. She told me to stop stomping around as she was tired. I replied that I was miles away at a BBQ and she must have heard the neighbours

I thought no more of it and then I noticed someone today has come in and put a package on my bed and turned my fan on. Nothings been taken. Again my DD said she heard the door go and someone walking around and assumed it was me. But I have only just back from London

My DD is quite worried as she said it was so obviously someone in the flat she assumes it was me. She said I should get the locks changed as she thinks the former owners who lived here in 2016 could still have a key or even given it to someone else. It hasn’t even occurred to me to change the locks when I bought the flat. I guess that’s what I will have to do but how very odd. Nothing has been taken and they weren’t quiet about it.

Linking to Reddit perchance?

NoSauce · 28/08/2019 15:17

Not me.

tirednhungry247 · 28/08/2019 15:29

I think it's the whole "assuming they are trolls" thing.

I'm not assuming anything by the way MNHQ
I'm just answering the below questions

tirednhungry247 · 28/08/2019 15:29

@NoSauce
I didn't see you do anything wrong? Wonder why they deleted it Confused

NoSauce · 28/08/2019 15:44

I honestly don’t know. I’m going to ask out of nosiness if nothing else!

LochJessMonster · 28/08/2019 16:14

Just read all this from start to finish. What a rollercoaster. Particularly enjoyed the random photo evidence and then OPs DD popping up.

Absolutely batshit.

starfishmummy · 28/08/2019 17:51

I know its probably a typo mablethorpe but I rather like the idea of a money ox. Smile

KUGA · 28/08/2019 18:00

Are you sure your DD isn`t winding you up ?.
If not change your locks.

diddl · 28/08/2019 18:03

So the parcel on the bed has an explanation.

A tired girl heard what could have been neighbours.

That it?

Oscarsdaddy · 28/08/2019 18:07

Your DD is in a wind up

If she thought it was you stomping about on Saturday why would she text you and not just shout or come and find you ?

PanamaPattie · 28/08/2019 18:16

Eh?

user1480880826 · 28/08/2019 18:19

Why are you posting on mumsnet and not phoning the police?! Also, get the locks changed RIGHT NOW! Someone has broken in and been through your things!

jam30 · 28/08/2019 18:23

I was just thinking along these lines. I am very forgetful, or convince myself my keys are in my bag etc, then only remember I actually moved them when I find them elsewhere.
Maybe you hurried the parcel upstairs to hide it from your daughter and don’t remember doing it?
The noise could have just been your son coming in to feed pets?

Nanna50 · 28/08/2019 18:33

How strange ...

LuciferTheCat · 28/08/2019 18:45
Shock
flumpybear · 28/08/2019 19:17

@sunshinegirl13 - sorry - didn't mean to accuse your boyfriend 😻

DoAllMeerkatsComeFromRussia · 28/08/2019 19:21

OP I'm not expecting an answer to this as it's a direct personal question, but are you menopausal? Because maybe you got out the box with the police officer's number on but in your panic about thinking someone had been in your home, you forgot you'd done it. It's too much of a coincidence otherwise that something potentially criminal had happened and then that phone number and the box you keep it in suddenly appear in the middle of your floor.

At the moment (early menopause at 43, now 46) my short term memory is non-existent. I can't make it as far as the kitchen before I've forgotten whether you were having tea or coffee. I have to write down everything I think I've got a chance of forgetting and then I forget other things. And then forget where I put the list of things to remember. And then forget that I HAD a list of things to remember. You get the picture.

I hope you get to the bottom of who was stomping around the flat the other night but my guess is that that is your only mystery.

HotChocolateLover · 28/08/2019 19:24

WEIRD!!! I bet you wish you had security cameras! I’m dying to know who it is 😂 Definitely new locks though.

Funghi · 28/08/2019 19:33

What is the mystery here?

You said your DD was alone and heard noises. You then said your DS had popped in to feed the degus. Mystery solved.

You said you found a parcel on your bed. Your DD’s BF said he put it there. Mystery solved.

You said you found a silver box left out and then went on to say you’ve been forgetful, so you could have left it out and forgotten?

MulticolourMophead · 28/08/2019 19:58

Not all menopausal women suffer memory loss. I haven't.

MulticolourMophead · 28/08/2019 19:59

Also meant to add that the times the DD heard noises don't appear to match the times the DS was feeding the dogs.

fuzzyduck1 · 28/08/2019 20:05

But what was in the package?

Densol999 · 28/08/2019 20:11

I remember the late night door knocker thread that was all full of drama then turned into nothing and now this drama Hmm

Gbtch · 28/08/2019 21:09

Just change the f in locks!
