I think someone’s been in my flat when I’m out

I went to a BBQ in Saturday night and received a strange text from my DD who was home in her bedroom. She told me to stop stomping around as she was tired. I replied that I was miles away at a BBQ and she must have heard the neighbours

I thought no more of it and then I noticed someone today has come in and put a package on my bed and turned my fan on. Nothings been taken. Again my DD said she heard the door go and someone walking around and assumed it was me. But I have only just back from London

My DD is quite worried as she said it was so obviously someone in the flat she assumes it was me. She said I should get the locks changed as she thinks the former owners who lived here in 2016 could still have a key or even given it to someone else. It hasn’t even occurred to me to change the locks when I bought the flat. I guess that’s what I will have to do but how very odd. Nothing has been taken and they weren’t quiet about it.

Get the locks changed ASAP

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 27/08/2019 22:16

.....because DD is the most obvious bet on the info given, overdoing it a tad by putting the parcel on your bed not the table.

prognos1s · 27/08/2019 22:16

That's petrifying, change the locks ASAP

zebrasdontwearbras · 27/08/2019 22:17

I'd be extremely concerned, OP.

Can you set up a camera to watch the front door? You can get ones that connect to your mobile phone quite cheaply - we have one that watches the dogs while we're out.

I'd have to know who it was before changing the locks!

Cherrysoup · 27/08/2019 22:19

They’ve been in your wardrobe?! Omg.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 27/08/2019 22:19

Another vote for changing the locks asap.

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:20

Both my sons have keys but my son was with me at the bbq and the other was out with his GF on Saturday. Today I was In London with one son and the other was at work. He occasionally comes round but he speaks to his sister when he comes round. He wouldn’t sneak in and go in my room like that. If my DD hadn’t heard the door I would have assumed someone had come in the window as I left them open.today

I had a problem a few months ago with late night callers but that was resolved so I don’t think connected. It’s all so odd

I’m going to change the lock as that will resolve it.

I was about to mention the woman living in the vents too! Maybe you have a visitor. I wouldn’t be asking on MN I’d be changing the locks and getting extra security too! Frightening!

Rivkka · 27/08/2019 22:22

So weird.

RLOU30 · 27/08/2019 22:22

@littlecabbage

Shock
Rivkka · 27/08/2019 22:22

Posted too soon, so weird, I would get a ring type doorbell.

RocketRacoonsFurryBalls · 27/08/2019 22:23

I remember your saga with the late night knocker!

AdelaideK · 27/08/2019 22:26

So you were the poster with the man ringing the doorbell every night?

It has to be connected. Too much of a coincidence otherwise.

surreysnapper · 27/08/2019 22:27

deffo time to change the locks

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:28

DD is 24 and definitely not her. She was very annoyed about being woken up by this person I do have a Ring doorbell but the battery needs charging and after the other saga and having a neighbour who walks her dog 8 times a day it was going off constantly and driving me potty. Wish I had it working now though.

Report this to the police. Someone has been in your house uninvited without making themselves know. Sneaking about whilst your daughter is home alone. It's more than a mums net aibu. It's a crime.
Track the package who signed for it from the delivery company. Did the delivery company leave a card saying left at number next door?

SuzieQ10 · 27/08/2019 22:29

Your poor DD being in the house with an intruder. If that's what happened.
How scary. Set up a hidden camera outside the door to see if you can find out who is trying to get in (change locks before you do anything else!)

Butterymuffin · 27/08/2019 22:29

How soon can you get the locks changed? Make sure you have bolted all doors too in the meantime.

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:30

It’s weird but I feel quite calm about this. I will however change the locks and charge the doorbell

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:31

Omg. Your right I’m going to check online who signed for the package.

onemorecakeplease · 27/08/2019 22:32

Weird and also a bit scary...

Elieza · 27/08/2019 22:32

You don’t have a loft do you? Someone could be living up there and coming down when they think the house is empty? I’ve heard horror stories! Sorry. Get those locks changed ASAP. You and your children could be in danger.

Fuma · 27/08/2019 22:33

I would also contact the delivery company. Last time I had something delivered to home (usually they go to work) I not only had to sign but also the delivery guy took my picture holding the package to prove I'd got it.

Keepaddingpets · 27/08/2019 22:33

You haven't got a loft that has access from your neighbours have you? Some older lofts basically ran the length of the building with no dividing walls.

PinkFlowerFairy · 27/08/2019 22:34

What did the police say when you reported it?
