I think someone’s been in my flat when I’m out

I went to a BBQ in Saturday night and received a strange text from my DD who was home in her bedroom. She told me to stop stomping around as she was tired. I replied that I was miles away at a BBQ and she must have heard the neighbours

I thought no more of it and then I noticed someone today has come in and put a package on my bed and turned my fan on. Nothings been taken. Again my DD said she heard the door go and someone walking around and assumed it was me. But I have only just back from London

My DD is quite worried as she said it was so obviously someone in the flat she assumes it was me. She said I should get the locks changed as she thinks the former owners who lived here in 2016 could still have a key or even given it to someone else. It hasn’t even occurred to me to change the locks when I bought the flat. I guess that’s what I will have to do but how very odd. Nothing has been taken and they weren’t quiet about it.

I’m so confused!

MrsAJ27 · 28/08/2019 08:32

Hope you manage to sort out the lock change today!

I feel like I've slipped into a parallel universe
Someone's nuts and I hope it's not me Bear

PancakeAndKeith · 28/08/2019 08:53

I remember your random late night knocker as well op.

TheJoxter · 28/08/2019 08:56

If windows were left open could someone have come in the window then left through the door?

DavetheCat2001 · 28/08/2019 08:58

No one wants to encounter late night knockers 😳

Catbrat · 28/08/2019 08:58

I honestly don't know how you are both so calm, I would be terrified, especially with the other weird things that have happened. Your both obviously a lot braver than me, I'd have had the police out and the locks changed by now, I think you need to take this more seriously and stop brushing it off.

We had a shared loft in a rented house we lived in ages ago. The mentally ill man next door dropped down Ito our house while we were out on many occasions (and once while I wax at home with the baby alone we think) and lots off stuff went missing from our home, including a pair of my shoes and DHs passport.

We only realised this was happening after he told us he knew our stair gate was wooden and that there was a silver ark money ox in the nursery.

Police cautioned him but we moved very quickly after this and he was evicted.

Oh wow @Mablethorpe that's awful! Would have proper freaked me out!

OrangeSwoosh · 28/08/2019 10:57

Rewind. If the boyfriend accepted the parcel a day early and put it on your bed, where does the neighbour 5 doors down (potentially Len?) come into it?

I’m assuming Len took it in, dropped it over to OP’s, at which point they gave it to the DD’s BF at the front door.

tirednhungry247 · 28/08/2019 11:31

I really wouldn't mind someone coming into my house in the night and doing all the cleaning

That’s the whole raison d’etre of that Reddit group

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 28/08/2019 13:22

Thank you Belgravian and I cannot say I'm surprised.

ElizaDee · 28/08/2019 13:25

@MissGiddyPants Yeah but why?

Basketofkittens · 28/08/2019 13:31

Why does anybody do anything?

Why do people post absolute drivel on MN?

ratspeaker · 28/08/2019 13:31

It is possible to puta chain on at night even when folk are expected back later.
You get one of these and the late returner has the key, opens door, fiddles about with key and opens chain
