I think someone’s been in my flat when I’m out

I went to a BBQ in Saturday night and received a strange text from my DD who was home in her bedroom. She told me to stop stomping around as she was tired. I replied that I was miles away at a BBQ and she must have heard the neighbours

I thought no more of it and then I noticed someone today has come in and put a package on my bed and turned my fan on. Nothings been taken. Again my DD said she heard the door go and someone walking around and assumed it was me. But I have only just back from London

My DD is quite worried as she said it was so obviously someone in the flat she assumes it was me. She said I should get the locks changed as she thinks the former owners who lived here in 2016 could still have a key or even given it to someone else. It hasn’t even occurred to me to change the locks when I bought the flat. I guess that’s what I will have to do but how very odd. Nothing has been taken and they weren’t quiet about it.

What was in the package?

littlecabbage · 27/08/2019 22:03

What was in the package?

thenightsky · 27/08/2019 22:04

Was the package for you? If so, I'd be assuming the neighbours had a key from whoever lived there before you. Definitely get the locks changed!

littlecabbage · 27/08/2019 22:04

Great minds...

DeepDarkWoods · 27/08/2019 22:04

That is so scary. Could a neighbour have a key?

HeyMonkey · 27/08/2019 22:05

A helpful ghost?

PerspicaciaTick · 27/08/2019 22:05

I'd put the chain on when at home until the locks are changed.
Just for piece of mind.

cranstonmanor · 27/08/2019 22:06

I'm with your dd on this one: change all the locks!

Amcor · 27/08/2019 22:07

What was in the package???!!!

RushianDisney · 27/08/2019 22:07

Locks changed immediately! That's scary

SquintEastwood · 27/08/2019 22:07

That is bizarre, I would definitely change the locks and possibly set up some sort of security camera as this person is clearly not bothered about intruding!

With that said I would hope assume it is a well meaning, albeit odd, neighbour who was given a spare key by previous owner rather than anything more sinister.

C0untDucku1a · 27/08/2019 22:08

Wtf change the locks!

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:08

The package is was something I had ordered and was it expecting to be delivered tomorrow. Good point about the neighbours possibly having a key but in that case it can only be one person as all the other neighbours moved in after me

What was in the package?

tirednhungry247 · 27/08/2019 22:09

Omg nooo
My paranoia is having kittens!
I'm thinking
Secret installed cameras in the house
A stalker
A highly intelligent and physical strong alien

It will be non of the above.
But please tell us what was in the package!

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:10

Yes I will definitely change the locks. Although it may be well meaning it’s unnerving. Can you imagine if they let themselves in when I was in the bath

Why did the put it on your bed though? Seriously kitchen side or dining table/living room coffee table?!
At least they had the courtesy to turn your fan on. It's been pretty humid Grin

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:12

I can’t tell you what was in the package as it’s for my DD and she sometimes reads MN.

Any family members with keys?

My sister used my flat one evening a week as a stopping point between work & a social commitment for months without me realising.

I didn't mind at all but it was a strange realisation.

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:14

Also I noticed a silver box I keep paperwork in had been removed from my wardrobe and placed on the floor. Now that is a bit worrying as it looks like they are searching for something

Why do any of you nosy buggers need to know what was in the package? Grin

OP, change the flipping locks!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 27/08/2019 22:15

Hmmm how old is DD? Are you sure she's not screwing with you?

Gellert · 27/08/2019 22:15

Definitely time to change the locks!
