I think someone’s been in my flat when I’m out

I went to a BBQ in Saturday night and received a strange text from my DD who was home in her bedroom. She told me to stop stomping around as she was tired. I replied that I was miles away at a BBQ and she must have heard the neighbours

I thought no more of it and then I noticed someone today has come in and put a package on my bed and turned my fan on. Nothings been taken. Again my DD said she heard the door go and someone walking around and assumed it was me. But I have only just back from London

My DD is quite worried as she said it was so obviously someone in the flat she assumes it was me. She said I should get the locks changed as she thinks the former owners who lived here in 2016 could still have a key or even given it to someone else. It hasn’t even occurred to me to change the locks when I bought the flat. I guess that’s what I will have to do but how very odd. Nothing has been taken and they weren’t quiet about it.

You said that about the previous incidents too, but it’s not normal for these many strange things to keep happening to the same person. It’s really not

No.

Absolutely not.

My neighbour brought me a key that fitted my front and back door 8 months after I moved in!!!!
Hope you manage to sleep a bit

I dunno about you lot.....but I’ve just gone back downstairs to check all the doors are locked!
Scary stuff OP. Hope you get it all sorted and there’s a logical explanation!

tempester28 · 27/08/2019 23:20

Not a jeanous / nosey girlfriend of your ex?

GotRearEnded · 27/08/2019 23:20

Hope you find out what's going on OP. It's a bit weird.

katewhinesalot · 27/08/2019 23:20

Why are you so calm?

colourlessgreenidea · 27/08/2019 23:20

But in this scenario DD heard someone in the flat when I was out.

She’s got an injunction against your ex.
She’s been approached in the street by strangers who recognise her from Instagram.
Her boyfriend suspected a man of following her to the toilets in McD’s.

And now someone is entering your home when she’s alone and searching through your things.

FFS!! If all of these things are true, stop brushing it all off as ‘innocent’!

RosaWaiting · 27/08/2019 23:20

OP
You said your son came to feed the “degus”

I’m assuming that’s autocorrect for dogs Grin

Wouldn’t they bark if a stranger came in?

LaMainDeFatima · 27/08/2019 23:21

Sorry if this has already been asked .... but did you speak to the neighbour who had signed for the parcel ? Asked whether they dropped off it at yours?

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 23:22

The package mystery isn’t such a mystery I’m afraid DDs bf said he put it there!! Still not sure why the stomping around was my DD heard but I feel a little ridiculous. It’s scary realising how many things have happened to my family when I read it back. Thanks for being there for me in my hour of need and still going to change the locks

DontCallMeShitley · 27/08/2019 23:22

If you only have or use one lock on your door it would be easy to get in, unless you have a good security lock.

A degu is a small rodent, definitely no barking!

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 23:24

Also doesn’t explain the silver box or police woman’s card with her number on showing up but I feel better knowing it was her BF and not a neighbour with a key

DollyDaisyMayMight · 27/08/2019 23:24

Is there an explanation for your silver paperwork folder?

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 23:25

I’m ashamed to say I still smoke I want to give up but I am trying to lose weight and it’s hard to do both

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/08/2019 23:26

Is the BF honest? Could he have been looking for the silver box and got disturbed by your DD?

KitKat

Thank you. So many times I’m fooled by autocorrect and now foiled again. Plus ROFL at rodents barking! Grin

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 23:29

If it was anyone else but him I would think that, but trust him implicitly. He had no idea that I didn’t realise he had left the package on my bed he was leaving after seeing DD and the neighbour handed him the package and he plopped it on my bed before he left

That’s weird in itself. You don’t go into your girlfriend’s mother’s bedroom to put her post on her bed. Confused

whatisheupto · 27/08/2019 23:33

Why would intruder be stomping around so hard it caused your DD to text you to ask you to keep the noise down? Could they be trying to attract attention or scare her? Also silver box thing and police woman's card are weird and unexplained.

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 23:34

I do wonder if I attract things like this. I remember years ago when my dad was in hospital with cancer and my sister had had a hysterectomy and I ended up in hospital for a fortnight with a badly broken leg. My sister said to me. “Jenasaurus, things like this don’t happen to our family we are never ill and lead normal uneventful lives “. I was in my later 30s and she was right. Up until then we had all lives blessed lives then it was one thing after another almost like bad things attract more bad things
