I think someone’s been in my flat when I’m out

I went to a BBQ in Saturday night and received a strange text from my DD who was home in her bedroom. She told me to stop stomping around as she was tired. I replied that I was miles away at a BBQ and she must have heard the neighbours

I thought no more of it and then I noticed someone today has come in and put a package on my bed and turned my fan on. Nothings been taken. Again my DD said she heard the door go and someone walking around and assumed it was me. But I have only just back from London

My DD is quite worried as she said it was so obviously someone in the flat she assumes it was me. She said I should get the locks changed as she thinks the former owners who lived here in 2016 could still have a key or even given it to someone else. It hasn’t even occurred to me to change the locks when I bought the flat. I guess that’s what I will have to do but how very odd. Nothing has been taken and they weren’t quiet about it.

Change the locks and cancel the cheque!

cailinvelo · 27/08/2019 22:46

Sorry OP but I'd be thinking of a late night locksmith. Can anyone come stay with you both?

What do you mean by late night callers and why had the police been involved then?

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:48

I’ve just messaged my eldest son and asked about the package and he said he didn’t put it in my room although he popped over earlier to feed the degus. Now I’m very confused. So he came round but not upstairs.

Have you got any door stop wedges? We'd be them all under the front door for tonight. And wedge a chair under the handle.

yellowsubmarines · 27/08/2019 22:49

My elderly NDN would try to use their keys let themselves into my house after I bought it. Fortunately I had changed the locks the day I bought the house so NDN's key doesn't work but I would be home and suddenly the front doorknob would start jiggling and scrapping sounds of them trying to fit their old keys into my new locks. Then they would move down to my side door, trying to look into the windows as they went around the house and jiggling side door knob, scrapping sound, more forceful jiggling door knob. It was unerving to say the least.

Definitely change your locks OP and charge up that Ring doorbell!

whattodo2019 · 27/08/2019 22:49

Report this to the Police
Change all the locks
Put a chain on all the doors
Replace the batteries in your Ring
Do not let anyone other than family have a key
Without meaning to scare you-
I would take it v serious

LemonGingerCakes · 27/08/2019 22:49

Change the locks
Report to the police
Install security cameras

Badwifey · 27/08/2019 22:50

Shock they surely have to be linked don't they? That is seriously creepy. Why go all the way to the bedroom though.

If the package was signed for in the afternoon, what time did your dd hear the person walking around at?

SleepyKat · 27/08/2019 22:51

I thought the caller thing turned out to be the wrong house...? Someone wanted your neighbour?

colourlessgreenidea · 27/08/2019 22:51

Another set of unusual/inexplicable occurrences?

You must be beside yourself wondering why on Earth these things keep happening. It’s never-ending Shock

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:51

I had a door bell caller and door banging caller between 1am and 3am every night for a while. I shouted at them one time and they ran off into the bushes. I was scared as they were aggressively persisitent. The police were made aware and they came to see me as realised what was happening and why my address was be being targeted. It was connected to a neighbour and a gift they gave me when they moved that made these callers think my flat was theirs. So I got the ring doorbell and a light and as if by magic it stopped

Not sure this is connected

What happened in the end with the late night knocker (sounds rude Grin ) Did you find out who it was?

origamiwarrior · 27/08/2019 22:54

Surely you should go and knock on the neighbours door who signed for the parcel and ask what they did next after they signed for it?

Windinmyhair · 27/08/2019 22:56

I would be going round to the neighbour and asking how they got in my home?.

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:56

yes I will do that tonmorrow. It’s a bit late to knock now. It’s a neighbour quite a way from the flat too

Woodlandwitch · 27/08/2019 22:56

@origamiwarrior that’s what I’m thinking too - that’s where the missing link is right now

janj2301 · 27/08/2019 22:57

I move quite a lot, always change the locks and rather naughtyly don't give the letting agent a copy.

AdelaideK · 27/08/2019 22:58

It must be connected. Surely you wouldn't be targeted twice by 2 unconnected people. Confused

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:58

I think the late night knockers stopped knocking as soon as they realised I wasn’t who they were looking for. The bright motion sensor light and ring doorbell put them off it seems

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 22:59

I will talk to the neighbour tomorrow to find out it’s journey

OP I think I remember your previous thread!

Are you the one in a long distance relationship?

MummyofTw0 · 27/08/2019 23:01

Spooky
Get the locks changed as you've said

Jenasaurus · 27/08/2019 23:02

Not in any relationship anymore but that was me yes. I got the courage to end it

OP posts:
HiItsClemFandango · 27/08/2019 23:02

I'm not being nosy I'm just wondering if it could be linked to that person?
